description

This is a mid-month reading challenge.
This challenge requires you to read one book AFTER you see an image.

I will post the picture early on the morning of the 10th of June.
It will be behind a spoiler button like (view spoiler).
You have the rest of the month to read that book.

The image could be a painting, a photograph, sculpture or artwork of some kind.

You will read the first book (that you can get a hold of easily) that pops into your mind when you look at the image I have selected.

No page limits. Re-reads are okay.
Duration : June 10- 30, 2016

Here is a summery image (view spoiler)

VampAmber | 622 comments Yay! It's finally up! (I've been checking for the last few days) Can you tell I'm eager? I freaking love this challenge.

As for requests, maybe something strange or bizarre, so we can get a lot of very different impressions? Or busy, busy would do the same thing. Cluttered? That kinda thing? *shrugs*

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) I'm actually good with busy...strange or bizarre would be better for October and Halloween, I would think. I'm thinking something summery would be nice.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 2004 comments Since there is no more much left of this month and I have still some books I want / committed to read, I declare this challenge for officially finished. I won't start any more new books only fnished the last one - though it's also part of a different challenge.
(view spoiler)

Read:
1. Riptide by Eric E. Wright - I wanted to check where this book is set and if I can use it for a challenge next month and before I realised it I read already more than 30 percent of this book, oops.
It's great Christian RS dealing with controversial topics, full of suspense and action and very realistic. It's nothing fluffy or sugar coated it's just as life is. One moment I was laughing at a sentence and the next page I was crying and still couldn't stop reading. If I didn't have to load my iPad and take a soak in the tube (and finish my original reading project) I would have finished this book in one go: 6 out of 5 stars and I'm looking forward to see if I like the other books by this author as well :-)

2. Under A Desert Sky by Loren Lockner (randomiser selection)
The book very interesting but not exceptional and it still needs urgently some proof reading (if even I see the mistakes regarding incorrect words, word order or tenses and those are my weaknesses in English). I still learned some new words (love it all the time) and had the feeling the language was above the average street level English.
I loved both main characters and appreciated it very much the clues were enough to figure out who the perp was if I really wanted about half way through the book but because I concentrated more on language and general story line I found it out much later and had the fun of guessing much longer :-) I think I'll still rate it 4 stars just becuse it was such and light and entertaing book regardless of all the short-comming.

3. Hidden Genders (Jimm Juree #0.5) by Colin Cotterill (randomiser selection)
The short story was just strange. I'm really glad it wasn't longer I'm not sure I had otherwise the patience to finish it. I'm still not sure how to rate it. Most likely I'll just live the star rating blank since I'm varying from zero to three. All in all it was not my cup of tee. I didn't like the characters, had trouble to deal with the stylistic devices. I could immagine they could work in a full length novel pretty well though in my opinion didn't make sense in a short story.
The only think I really enjoy was the nice twist shortly before the end (view spoiler).

To Read: Pirate of My Heart by Jamie Carie (Give me Five challenge selection)

Country Heaven (Dare River, #1) by Ava Miles
This book reminded me of beach chairs

NayNay Yes summer theme would be nice

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments I'll give it another try. I haven't been successful most months!

That would be a pretty easy choice and I might actually complete the challenge - LOL!

message 12: by VampAmber (new)

VampAmber | 622 comments I am legitimately completely stumped here (no pun intended). I'll hafta think about this one for a bit...

I had two different book covers come to mind when I saw this picture.
1) Major Lord David
2) The Island of Ted

message 14: by ⚜️XAR (new)

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) I'm probably going with Aloha Love by Yvonne Lehman Aloha Love by Yvonne Lehman. I can see a palm tree on that cover and the color of the cover reminds me of the picture too!

message 15: by Brindi Michele (new)

Brindi Michele (brindimichele) | 160 comments Okay, so my first thought was beach, then swimming, and then I remembered I have this audio book in my car that is just asking me to take that step and put it in the CD player. Guess I'm doing just that. I'll read (err...listen to) The Lifeboat Clique by Kathy Parks The Lifeboat Clique by Kathy Parks

I love the thought process, Brindi. It sounds like everything worked out great.

message 17: by VampAmber (new)

VampAmber | 622 comments Couldn't come up with a single idea for palm trees, and couldn't even think of something summery or in California/Hawaii. So I went with the quote on the picture, which sounded like the stuff I've read in books on Zen and Buddhism, so I grabbed a copy of A Profound Mind Cultivating Wisdom in Everyday Life by Dalai Lama XIV at the library, and it even matched the color scheme. ^_^

Finished this one today...the Hawaii historical culture was interesting, but I didn't really enjoy the book overall.

message 19: by NayNay (new)

NayNay What a busy weekend but my book pick is....

Outcast by José Latour

message 20: by Agnieszka (new)

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 2004 comments I finished my (first randomiser) book and an additional one. Since one of these books was picked in a different challenge I'll read it additionally and picked another one with the randomiser. I just update as soon as there is need message 5 and post progress reports once a week down here :-)
This month is really fun and it was not hard at all to find books to the immage. So far I like also both books!

message 21: by Joann (new)

Joann Taking a look through my TBR list, I didn't see anything with palm trees, so I'm going with this one based on the colors;
Wicked Charms (Lizzy & Diesel, #3) by Janet Evanovich

message 22: by Brindi Michele (new)

Brindi Michele (brindimichele) | 160 comments I finished my book, The Lifeboat Clique by Kathy Parks , on 6/15/16. Meh. It was little too "teen-sy" for my taste.

NayNay Outcast by José Latour Outcast by José Latour 06/16/16 ****

Finished my pick....I thought it was a well written account of the times and I liked the vivid detail of Cuba and Miami

I finished my book for this challenge. I think it's the third time I've read Major Lord David (Regency Trilogy, #2) by Sherry Lynn Ferguson .
I think I pull it out whenever I need a yellow cover :)

message 26: by VampAmber (new)

VampAmber | 622 comments Just finished my book, A Profound Mind Cultivating Wisdom in Everyday Life by Dalai Lama XIV . It was good, but a bit hard to follow at some points. Maybe not the best for a newbie like me? *shrugs*
