Lonnita Our book club recently got into a long and huge discussion about this book, particularly some of use were not a fan of the heroine in this book and her childish actions, were others felt that the hero caused the issue and she was justified in her childish actions. Most of us are all HUGE Kristen Ashley fans and typically feel the same way about all of the books, it was just interesting how this particular book caused such a reaction.

We thought it would be interesting to see what others thought. Here are some of the comments that were made. Each new quotation is a new thread. Sugarbook Club would love to see others opinions.

"I get both sides on the book Until the Sun Falls. I don’t like the mind control stuff but then she is acting like a kid. "

"I’m ready to enter the Great debate now. Yes she was VERY childish! But he was very arrogant too. If you been in love with someone for 20 years and know everything about them. Why don’t you know she was expelled from vampire studies?"

"Cause she got expelled after they signed the contract. The ladies/gentlemen go to school after they've been chosen and signed the contract. He didn't know she got expelled until he saw her again. She had two weeks to attend school and get her affairs in order before she went into "service" to him. Had she taken that time to LEARN something INSTEAD of being all "woes me" she wouldn't have been so lost.

"I will give it to you guys that he shouldn't have used mind control over her, but if that's his worst crime then I don't buy it. Yes, he used mind control, he's a freaking vampire. You start acting like a child you get treated like a child. You act like the adult you claim you are, then you get treated like one. You see once she started acting like an adult he started treating her that way."

"It was not fair of him to expect her to make all these life changes, but he didn’t make any for her that she knew of. He expected her to change her behavior, but did nothing to make her WANT to change. You can’t make someone change their ways if they don’t want to! Except, wait! I’m a vampire and I can make her do what I want because I can! If he’s been watching her for 20 years, he knows how she is and should have taken her stubbornness and childishness into account, but since he’s an arrogant vampire used to being obeyed, he never even thought of approaching the situation from a different way, and that’s HIS fault! He could have made the situation so much easier than it was."

"But it was her job to make those changes and if she would have acted like an adult and learn what was expected from her, she would have known."

"But she didn’t want the job!!! So if you don’t want a job that no one will let you quit, then you try (by any means necessary) to get fired!!! It was HIS job to make her WANT the job!!!"

"Umm leave. Quit yourself. First off you are 40 years old, I am not allowing no one to pick me as their food source. My mom, sister and aunts would just have to be mad, it ain’t happening. Second if you know running away means death. If it was that bad to you and you saw no way out, sign me up for death. I am outta here."

"LOL! Which was why she was writing her will during class!"

"Y'all need to stop thinking that heifer wanted to die. If she wanted to die rather than be a "pet" then she would have taken her life. She was being a drama queen, brat plain and simple. "I'm a play in class"...brat. "I'm gonna write my will"...drama queen brat. "I'm gonna make him kill me so I can be free"...drama queen. "He made me watch him whip his wife who was trying to kill me"...drama queen. "He's being nice, but he I'm still going to hold a grudge"... brat. "I give up, I'll just be a shell of myself and be a yes-man"...drama queen. I could go on through the whole darn book. You keep saying that he's known her for 20 years, therefore he should know how she is going to act. NO...he's seen her interacting with her family and friends, being mature and acting sensible. The way she acted with him was NOT how she would act when she didn't know he was watching. So, he did not expect her to act like a brat. He was looking for the woman that he had been seeing at her aunts parties and such. Not the woman-child that she was being because she didn't get her way. Like my mother, and grandmother and great-grandmother (and I now say it too) used to say when we said but I want it..."people in hell want ice water too, and they don't get it either. If you don't get something, as an ADULT, you learn to adjust and make it better, not live in a pity party. She was trying to act like a martyr and didn't have a valid thing to martyr. "

"By that same token, he wasn’t getting what he wanted from her, so that meant he needed to adjust HIS methods, because what his current one wasn’t working! But instead of changing HIS behavior (something he can control) he proceeded to force her to change. And that’s because he COULD control her whether she wanted it or not! Her behavior was childish, but his was unbending/inflexible.
Y’all think I liked her character because I’m defending her, but that is far from the truth. I’m just saying that she was not the only person at fault. It seems like y’all are putting more blame onto her because you couldn’t stand her childishness, but that’s not fair, because he contributed to her childishness a lot! She could have reacted differently, but SHE DIDN’T, so he has to deal with the reality of her character, not what he saw from afar. If he would have tried to gain/earn her trust instead of demanding blind following, then she might not have been so childish and stubborn. Just saying… Every action has an equal and sometimes opposite reaction."

"...., I get that you are playing devils advocate, and pointing out the hero's flaws; and I will admit that he wasn't completely blameless. When reading this book, she caused me to have a strong reaction to her actions. He did act in some ways that were inappropriate, but I kept thinking through the majority of the book, that alot of the things that she went through were because she wanted to pout way beyond the time necessary when she should have been arming herself with knowledge that would have made her time easier; showed what to expect; or even how to get out if she wanted to. Yes he was arrogant, but have a conversation with someone who has dealt with vampires to see if he is different or if this is common. Talk to someone who can advise you on the best ways to deal with his high-handedness. Knowledge is power baby, and for any woman it is our duty to find out how to work our men so that we can get what we want and need to be happy. She didn't look for knowledge, she looked for sympathy. She stayed in her head too darn long and made judgments and opinions that were unfounded or explainable had she just ASKED. Was this book written in 3rd or 1st person? I ask because I feel like he had a more positive POV than she did even when he was going through stuff. I did want him to explain stuff to her more, but then I understood why he didn't...she acted juvenile over every little thing, how could he expect her to react differently when he explained things that would have revealed how different their situation was. I just wanted her to stop being so darn over-dramatic."

This is where we left off (I think)...and this had been discussed in a meeting and continued over email. We will be checking and want other opinions. Thanks in advance.

Bertlyn Harvey I clicked on the book cover and got to this page. I don't know if this is only for viewing by your community of friends or what but really can't wait to see if anyone else sees it and responds. We need others input on this. After all we have been discussing this going on 2 weeks.
