What an interesting subject matter to blog about! What is your fascination with that period?

Thanks Karen, I've been fascinated with Napoleon since I read Companions of Jehu by Alexandre Dumas when I was 9. The way Dumas portrayed Napoleon - as a hero and saviour of France - made a huge impression and from then on, I was hooked. I even did a Uni degree on French history.

Nice post.
This makes me think about my mother-in-law. She was worried about my almost 4 year old watching Cars 2 as it has a scene where a car is "tortured". He couldn't have cared less, and I had to remind her about all the old stories WE were told as kids! Fairytales are gruesome! ;)

Hi Karen, that is true, the stories they would tell us as children, made me not want to be outside after dark! In periods around Christmas and Easter they had stories, I come from a village I must say, about goblins and malevolent, bloodthirsty pixies (?)

Karen ⊰✿ | 3767 comments Eeek! Sounds scary to me Maria, I don't blame you!!
My eldest has just started watching "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (Tim Burton) and he is obsessed. Maybe he won't have a fear of the dark and monsters? Who knows!

Love stories that take inspiration from folklore etc and stories from your childhood. I agree that some were really quite scary though!

Jennifer Hi. I read the Me Before You review of yours. High Five mate, I gave it lousy stars and a similar review on goodreads though I would absolutely not recommend it to any one, even the sobbers. It indeed is extremely underwhelming and the writing is mediocre. I cant believe people cried for this.
