Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) We decided to do a new thread for each day so it doesn't become unmanageable. :)

Today’s prompt is a book you’ve read more than three times.

For my blog post, I chose Twilight by Stephenie Meyer because I didn't want all my answers to be the same for the next 30 days. I also went into why I chose it, but I won't here.

I've read Twilight five times. I've also read Dune, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and Goblet of Fire five times. I've read Order of the Phoenix four times.

What book(s) have you read more than three times?

message 2: by Ladyslott (new)

Ladyslott | 1880 comments None. I don't re-read at all.

message 3: by Cora (new)

Cora (corareading) | 1921 comments I have a few books I read twice, but the only book I recorded 3 reads on was To Kill a Mockingbird.

message 4: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) | 1793 comments I have quite a few that I have reread, but the 2 I know have gone 3 times are 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff (great little book about books)and Mara, Daughter of the Nile by Eloise Jarvis McGraw (my first romance)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Jenni Elyse wrote: "I chose Twilight by Stephenie Meyer..."

I have read the Twilight Saga three times I believe.....

message 6: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments I do not reread a whole lot, occasionally I will pick up a Nora Roberts favorite for a quick, comforting read, but in general I do not.

The blinding exceptions are Twilight, which I have read three times and fight the temptation on a regular basis to read it again, and Pride and Prejudice, which I have read probably 7 or 8 times.

message 7: by Jenni Elyse (new)

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) That's so interesting to me that not many people have read books more than 3 three times. I'm a huge rereader. I always revisit Dune, Twilight, and Harry Potter every couple of years. And, I often reread the series as the books are published.

message 8: by annapi (last edited May 18, 2016 11:59AM) (new)

annapi | 5505 comments Book I have read more than three times? Lots - most notably all 5 books of Lloyd Alexander's The Chronicles of Prydain series, and Watership Down by Richard Adams.

In 5th to 7th grades I read A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle more than 5 times (at least) - I kept checking it out of the library. I've probably re-read it as an adult too.

Another childhood favorite that I kept revisiting as much as Wrinkle is The Wolves of Willoughby Chase by Joan Aiken.

message 9: by Joi (new)

Joi (missjoious) | 3970 comments The whole Harry Potter series. Easy. When the books were still coming out, I would reread the whole series up to that point in preparation. Plus have read them other times since they all have been out. :) HP for life!

Jenni Elyse (jenni_elyse) Joi wrote: "The whole Harry Potter series. Easy. When the books were still coming out, I would reread the whole series up to that point in preparation. Plus have read them other times since they all have been ..."

Me too. That's why I've read Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and Goblet of Fire five times, Order of the Phoenix 4 times, Half-Blood Prince 3 times, and Deathly Hallows twice.

message 11: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments I choose not to reread a lot because there are so many great books out there that I can't wait to get to! With limited time to read, my choices are to reread a book or to dive into a new story with new characters. I tend to lean toward new...

I do want to reread the Oryx and Crake series, though that will only be twice. And I have read HP twice and I know that I will reread it again some day and am waiting for one of my friends kids to be old enough that we can read it together.

I'm the same way. I read more new books than I reread, but I still reread quite a bit. I think about 25% of the books I read per year are rereads.

message 13: by Megalion (new)

Megalion | 484 comments Most of my re-reads were up through about. .. 2004.

And there are so many! !
The Fresco by Sheri Tepper
Kindred by Octavia Butler
Fool on the Hill by Matt Ruff
Set This House in Order: A Romance of Souls by Matt Ruff
Sewer, Gas and Electric: The Public Works Trilogy by Matt Ruff

Neal Stephenson: Diamond AgeThe Diamond Age: or, A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer, ZodiacZodiac, Snow Crash
Most Valdemar books by Mercedes Lackey
First 6 Sword Of Truth books by Terry Goodkind

Jackie Collins, Danielle Steele, Victoria Holt, Beatrice Small, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Dean Koontz, Sidney Sheldon....

That's all that springs to mind off hand.

And if the AMAZING JACKY FABER books had been written by then, those probably 10x over. Starts with Bloody Jack: Being an Account of the Curious Adventures of Mary "Jacky" Faber, Ship's Boy by L. A. Meyer - have been tempted to re-read then finish remaining books of series in honor of this month's tag.

Before the Internet drastically opened me to good leads on new books, I tended to just read my favorites over and over.

message 14: by Susie (new)

Susie I don't re-read either. The only books I have re-read are books I am reading for a second time to my son.

message 15: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Pope (jenjunum) | 902 comments I never re-read either. I guess soon it will be Charlotte's Web because I read it to each daughter and when I was a kid, but that's it.

message 16: by Diane (new)

Diane Zwang | 485 comments I also don't do re-reads. I can't think of any book that I have read 3 times.

message 17: by DianeMP (new)

DianeMP | 534 comments Like Cora, the only book I have read three times is To Kill a Mockingbird.

message 18: by Jgrace (new)

Jgrace | 3958 comments Lots. I reread when I'm distracted or stressed. These days, rereading is often listening to a book that I previously read on paper. Or visa/versa , different formats give a different perspective.

Books I've read many times : Jane Eyre, David Copperfield, Tolkien - The Hobbit and the trilogy ... I'm sure there are more, and that's not including children's books.

message 19: by Booknblues (last edited May 18, 2016 05:46PM) (new)

Booknblues | 12150 comments I haven't done a reread recently but in the past I have read To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court at least three times..

And like Judith, that doesn't include children's books which because of the nature of my profession I have read too many times to number.

Kristel (kristelh) | 699 comments The Bible.

message 22: by Kathy (new)

Kathy I'll add to the To Kill a Mockingbird re-read group. I have read it 3 times. I have also read Wuthering Heights 3 times.

message 23: by annapi (new)

annapi | 5505 comments It's been a long time since I did a full re-read. I used to to it a lot in my younger days but now I feel the pressure of too many books, too little time. But I like to pick up some favorites occasionally and read my favorite parts.

message 24: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments I'm not a big re-reader. The only book that I can think of is Pride and Prejudice. I think I also started Interview with the Vampire a 3rd time, but didn't finish it.

I have re-read a few books that are in a trilogy/series if it's been a while since I started it. Nowadays, if I like the first book of a series, I generally just wait until the remainder of the series comes out.

LibraryCin | 11722 comments ETA: Oops! I see this is a new thread for a new day. I'll go add this reply to yesterday's thread!

message 27: by LibraryCin (new)

LibraryCin | 11722 comments For today's, I rarely reread - anymore. In high school, there were a few I reread and the one that comes to mind that I may have reread the most:
Flowers in the Attic by V.C. Andrews.

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments I think I read Eat Pray Love two or three times. I'm someday going to hit Shadow of the Wind a third time, when I start the series from the beginning. I'm in my second, third, and fourth rounds of the Harry Potter Series with my kids. In fact there are a bunch of young novels I've read with them, at least three times. The Million Dollar Shot? Fantastic early kid Boy Book.

message 29: by Ellen (new)

Ellen | 3522 comments I don't reread books - at least not on purpose. There have been a few times I've started a book and thought "Gee, this sounds familiar" because I had forgotten I already read it.

message 30: by Susie (new)

Susie That's happened to me too Ellen! I'm glad I'm not the only one!

message 31: by Patty (new)

Patty | 87 comments I usually don't read a book more than once. I might have read a book twice because I wasn't sure I have read it or not. I get about a third of the way thru and then realize I have read it. By that time I just continue reading it.

message 32: by annapi (last edited May 19, 2016 07:24AM) (new)

annapi | 5505 comments LOL Patty, that happens to me too. Sometimes I go ahead and finish it, sometimes I don't. I think that's probably why I finally decided to record my reading on a spreadsheet - I started that in 2007 and have been meticulous about keeping it up ever since.

message 33: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 688 comments There are a handful of favorites that I have read more than once but I don't think I've ever gone through a book more than twice ...

However, if I had the time to do so, I would love to going through The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Wuthering Heights a third time.

message 34: by Denizen (new)

Denizen (den13) | 1138 comments I quit rereading books maybe 15 years ago but even when I reread I wasn't reading them more than 3 times

The exceptions? I read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy annually through high school, my 20's and into my early 30's. The other book I've read numerous times is an obscure book first read probably in junior high The Revolt of Sarah Perkins. Published in 1965, it has a mere 68 ratings but, at an average rating of 4.5, I am not alone in having loved this book!

message 35: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1545 comments I'll join those who say they don't reread. As a child I used to reread books but as an adult I stopped doing so with a few exceptions.

I feel like there are too many books I want to read - my TBR is taking over my house. With so many new books that are constantly joining my TBR, I don't have time for rereads even if I love a book.

message 36: by Jen (new)

Jen | 1545 comments Oh, I should add that I will reread if it's a part of a series and the next one isn't out for a long time -making me forget earlier books. Then I'll go back and reread before the new one comes out.

message 37: by JoLene (last edited May 19, 2016 10:27AM) (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 1532 comments I was thinking about this question since as mentioned before, I don't normally re-read, however, Nicole would be proud because back in my younger days, I'm pretty sure that I read The Promise by Danielle Steele (the only book I've read of hers) and A Knight in Shining Armor at least 3 if not more. I would sneak reading them when I was babysitting my brother :-D.

One reasons that I don't re-read is too many books (as people say); however the other reason is that sometimes you love a book because it speaks to you at that time in your life. You have fond memories of the book and experience reading it. However, sometimes when I read something again, it taints the initial experience because the book doesn't resonant as well.

message 38: by Kimber (new)

Kimber (kimberwolf) | 845 comments The only books I've read more than three times are books of poetry, which I pick up and read repeatedly, depending on my mood: I've re-read collections of poetry by e.e. cummings, Sylvia Plath, Denise Levertov, Byron, Shelley, etc. multiple times. Shel Silverstein too.

message 39: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments JoLene wrote: "I was thinking about this question since as mentioned before, I don't normally re-read, however, Nicole would be proud because back in my younger days, I'm pretty sure that I read [book:The Promise..."

JoLene, A Knight in Shining Armor is a GREAT one to reread!! I loved that book.

And I totally agree with your observation that sometimes you love a book because it was at the right time. I often don't reread books because I am afraid I won't love them as much the second time and I don't want to ruin my magical memories.

In fact, I just made that comment about Nancy Drew books on the Day Three prompt!

message 40: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9299 comments I'm also not a re-reader generally, but I feel like there are some childhood books I probably have read more than three times. Alice in Wonderland and Black Beauty are a couple that spring to mind.

But adult books? No.

message 41: by Book Concierge (new)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8442 comments Generally speaking I don't re-read but I HAVE re-read these more than three times ...
A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

LibraryCin | 11722 comments Ellen wrote: "I don't reread books - at least not on purpose. There have been a few times I've started a book and thought "Gee, this sounds familiar" because I had forgotten I already read it."

I've done that a couple of times, as well, Ellen!

That's exactly why I don't reread anymore. The main exception is for my f2f book club. There are a couple more I'd like to reread, but whether or not I will ever actually make time to do so is anyone's guess!

message 44: by Marti (new)

Marti (coloreader) Since I started keeping a reading journal, I don't intentionally reread. The only exceptions are children's books (don't get me started on Goodnight, Moon!), and I think I've read the Harry Potters twice.

message 45: by ~*Kim*~ (new)

~*Kim*~ (greenclovers75) I have so many on my wish list that I've never re-read any.

message 46: by Sushicat (new)

Sushicat | 843 comments The list of re-reads is very short - too many new ones out there. The one exception is The Lord of the Rings which I actually read three times.

message 47: by Sammantha (new)

Sammantha (sammylouise) | 15 comments I usually only reread a book so I remember whats been going on in a series. I've read The Lightning Thief a few times.
