Drop in and say hi!

Okay. Is there a reason why I can't find TWUBC (which incidentally ranks amongst my fav Murakamis) as one of our common 100 books? Not to mention, The Bell Jar seems to be the only one we have both rated, the rest of the 99 seems to be on your shelves! Seems quite improbable that I would have read only 1 of your 501 rated books.

The Compare tool for me, indeed seems to be broken. I went through your books and we have quite a few common reads; we do seem to concur on many authors and books; I knew you were a fellow Douglas Adams fan, but very glad to see you like Wharton as much as I do (I get to know very few people who have even heard of Wharton, people who rave about Austen instead!). Hard-Boiled... and other Murakamis are on hold, I am rationing them out, one a year, to make them last, would you believe I bought my copy of 1Q84 just last month?

I love Wharton, though I've only read four books and one short story by her. She wrote with such skewering wit. She's one of my "goals" authors, i.e. I hope to read everything she's ever written.

Works!
I have read 3 of her works I think; and I too, hope, plan and wish to read everything she has written.

@Mumbai only.
I don't know if I am posting this under the appropriate discussion but here is the thing.
Our firm is having a charity program, where all the books are collected and sold for 50 rs. The company contributes 200% of what anyone pays for the book.
Below are the list of books, if anyone interested can ping me and contribute minimum 50 rs for the charity.

I started reading when I was 8 (Enid Blyton) and would consume books in large quantities and spend time at libraries reading mysteries, chick-lits and supernatural fiction. As an adult, I enjoy books with beautiful prose, graphic novels, magic realism, American literature written by people of colour and Indian English fiction.
In college, I grew far more political and, majoring in Human Rights and Gender Studies, I had to read a lot more non-fiction, academic, interdisciplinary writing on colonialism, gender and contemporary international politics.
In this time, I unfortunately lost touch with fiction and am trying to regain that now. I struggle to read like I once used to and am hoping to change that! :)

Are the books still available? I'm interested in purchasing the Jo Nesbø. 'The Son' for 50 bucks looks like a sweet deal but, like Piyush, my interest depends on the delivery/pick-up.

I am Shridhar from Mumbai. I am a newly published author.

For convince them group members use some psychological technique like hypnotism and some else. they also complete all wishes of group members like a ginny.
According to them some incidents like natural disasters and man-made disasters are tasks of devil and these should be happen again if want to overcome the god.
meanwhile police got an clue about them but not about their plan neither their location. but the important date is hidden in some disaster happen in Indian history.

@Piyush @S
Yes the books are still available, sorry for the delay in response.
it would not be a problem if I could delivery this to you anywhere in the western line.
You guys let me know the place you would want me to drop the books, I would do that, if it not too far

Darn, I had my eye on the Nesbo as well, but well S called it first, so I will take the 2 Jeffrey Deavers instead.
Well, I am at Fort (at the landmark BSE Building), which is a 10 min walk from either Churchgate or VT station. So, if this is an address you find doable, that would be great, else we will forget this whole thing.

Welcome to the Group Saumya. This is not an overly active group, but I do hope you will find here the inspiration you were looking for.

I could have a friend pick it up from Santa Cruz station, if that works for you, or perhaps Dadar. Is the last book a Christie? I can't decipher the title.
@P Thanks for being so accommodating!
@Piyush Not a problem, my colleagues rents a place in Colaba, so I would tell him to drop the books near BSE. Let me know the day you will be comfortable to collect.
@S I cross Santa cruz each day so that will not be a problem to drop the books to you, Bandra would be much better. Let me know when you would be free. I would prefer anytime at the evening after 7pm or in the morning before 9:30 am.

7 p.m works for me fine. Any day is fine with me, just let me know whichever day works for her. Also ask your other friends too if they need any of the books. thanks

She said she can collect it at the station either tomorrow or on Thursday at 7.30. Is that fine?

Okay, a Ms. Dutta will be waiting for you at the ATM outside the station on the eastern side, right outside the ticket counters at 7.30. Please carry the Nesbø for me. Thanks.
You haven't told me, which is the Christie title?
@S Sure, East or west, and also the name of the ATM bank.
The book is "The Thirteen Problems" by Agatha Christie
If you want that I can bring that along too.

Nah, thanks, just 'The Son'! East, I'm not sure of the name. I think it's an Axis or Kotak Bank ATM, but there's only one right outside the ticket counter. That's where she will be. I will confirm with her tomorrow morning and post here.

Also, can you please tell me the condition of the book? I hope it doesn't have any writing or marks inside!
@S Got it.
I don't think so. As much as I have browsed it, it doesn't look like there is a mark. As much as I can guess, I don't think the person who bought this read this either, its a freaking 620 pages.
The book is so big that whether your friend identifies me or not, she would definitely be able to find the person carrying the book.
@Piyush You could also drop in your details if you want the books. :-)

Your friend is late S, I am waiting on the east side, just next to the ticket counter, outside Kotak ATM

Update: Thanks a lot! She just told me that she got it. I'm very grateful. :)

Your welcome S.
Anybody else needs any other copy let me know, this would be there only still this week ends.

@Kevin Thanks for your unsolicited comments; they are not welcome. Neither are your comments about someone else's linguistic skills. Since these are the first two comments you seem to have made on this Group (though I may be mistaken, you are not someone I think I would bother remembering anyway), the content of your comments speaks volumes about you.

Haha, I never doubted it; I didn't want to travel, that's all! But you're welcome. :P And my friend said that the book looks fairly new -- might as well give you her data since she's the lab rat.
(view spoiler)

Hi Kamini, I'm new here myself, and still figuring my way about.
Great to know that your first book is going to be out soon. I'm not really into the 'Danielle Steel' and 'Shobha De' type of stuff but will watch out for your book when it hits the shelf.
Wish you all the best!

It's with great honour that I start this thread - with a hope to get to know each of you. Please share a word or two about yourself:
Hi Sharadha, Thanks for starting this thread. Great to interact with fellow readers from Mumbai. And really look forward to adding to my reading bucket-list.
:)

In another life, I was an advertising professional (creative). Now I'm simply an earthling, reader and a writer.
Fortunately for me, my fascination for books began when I was about 6 or so, mainly with comic-books. My journey from there must probably be similar to yours (Enid Blyton, Famous Five, the 'William' series etc.)
My grandfather had accumulated an enviable library that included a lot of mainstream fiction from that time (Sidney Sheldon, Jeffrey Archer, James Hadley Chase, Arthur Hailey, John Grisham) and my school had an amazing library as well where I began exploring other genres and read some of the classics (in Illustrated form - somewhat like today's Graphic Novels).
I don't really have any specific genres that I'm keen on, but for some reason, Romance doesn't appeal to me as much as most others. And on the other hand, I really love Non-Fiction, Autobiographies (my favorite being the one written by Malcolm X) and Graphic Novels.
And I'm happy to be here!
:)

This is super exciting. I've just dived into reading again after what seemed to be a sabbatical (even though I did on an average read 22-28 books a year), so I'm super excited to talk to..."
Such a cute story about you calling books 'Suno' :)
For one of my early birthdays (I forget which) my mum got me a stack of books, spread them out all over the dining table, woke me up and brought me out to see.
Aren't we the lucky ones.
I'm back to reading after a bit of a break myself. And I've been hearing so much about Neil Gaiman in the last few month, it's insane.
Can't wait to get my hands on one of his books.

This is Nitesh. On the most used acronym asl from Yahoo chat days.. 28, M, Thane.
I have been seeing lot of action nd traction in this group. Thanks to new moderators. I love reading..."
Hi Nitesh.. asl.. lol.. took me back to the good ole days :)
And I'm really fascinated with your reading+1.5x audiobook experiment I'll probably try doing it myself although I'm not sure whether it'll work for me.
Great to interact with a fellow reader such as yourself.

Love sci-fi, humour and non-fiction.
Presently reading, "The Big Short"
Oh,
I also write - travelogues"
Hi Shubhendra,
Sci-Fi & Humor... so is it safe to assume you've read the The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? :)
Even I'd like to read your travelogues... are they online?

Hey Frederick..
I really LOVED Shantaram (Maximum City as well) so I'd really love to read your book.. What's it called?
@S @Piyush I do not deal with books, I deal with software. This books were out on sale in my office for charity and so I put in here just in case if anyone wants.
@Piyush Friday is tough, how does weekend work for you, say Sunday.
My friend who lives in Colaba is free only this sunday, drop me a message about this in my goodread mailbox :-)
