Michelle | 28 comments i remember reading this when i was young so it would have had to be published prior to 95 . the book opens up with several murders that are very grisly and the female detective has little to no leads. some how there is a young boy that is introduced i believe that he is younger then 13 anyway he worms his way into the detectives life only for it to turn out that he is the one that is killing all these people.

Series or standalone? Author male or female? Set in a particular country/region? Is the time setting contemporary?

message 5: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 28 comments dont know the answer to any of those questions unfortunately it was too many years ago. i just remember how shocking the ending was finding out that a child was responsible for the very graphic murders.

Who are the murder victims and what do they have in common -- age, gender, etc.? Are these set up as copycat murders to hide the killer's identity?

What's the location - U.S./England/country, big city/small town/region?

Does the female detective have a partner?

Note: I added a spoiler alert in the topic header. This can also be done by editing message #1 and typing the alert before the spoiler.

message 14: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 28 comments i do believe that she has a partner who is male and ends up being a romantic avenue for her possibly saving her in the end when the boy comes after her once she figures out the truth. i believe that it is set in the us in a bigger town i dont remember all the victims info but i believe they were in some way mutilated sexually by the killer.

Michelle | 28 comments if i remember right the young boy was pretending to be either mentally or physically handicapped but was in fact extreme smart

Were the murder victims females, males, children, teenagers, young adults and/or older adults? People in the neighborhood, prostitutes, etc.?

About how old is the young boy you mentioned?

Do think this is a mystery series featuring this female detective (and probably set in a large U.S. town/city)?

message 22: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 28 comments if i remember correctly the were all younger females from teens to 30's dont believe it was a series and the boy was between 10-18

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Does quite fit, but Over the Line Over the Line by Faye Sultan ?

Do you remember the cover?

message 24: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 28 comments it is not over the line unfortunately still hoping to find the book but looking like a lost cause at this point cant bring to mind an image of the book and unfortunately cannot go to the person who loaned the book due to her passing away

Amber (Daisymau) (daisymau) | 1911 comments I'm trying to narrow down my search. I assume since the book sounds really graphic, that the book would be considered adult? Do you remember if it was romantic suspense, or thriller genre?

message 26: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 28 comments i dont believe that it was romance suspense even though there was some relationship with someone for the female detective so i would go with the thriller genre
