Erika (escilas) | 43 comments Hi there!

I’m looking for a book about a cat chasing a mouse (or maybe a rabbit, I can’t recall). The whole thing was made out of illustrations only, no words. It was short, probably just some eight or ten pages long max. As far as I recall the illustrations were black and white only, almost pretty sure they were actually silhouettes. The pictures showed the cat chasing the mouse (I think it was by night), how the mouse tried to escape (through a field, maybe? It was an open space, I think) and in the end (spoiler alert!) the mouse is snatched by a bird instead (not sure if it was an owl or an eagle, but I would lean to it being an owl). And that was the end.

I wouldn’t call it a children’s book at all, the illustrations seemed very edgy to me, like something out of a graphic novel perhaps. I came across this book on a supermarket (sadly, I couldn't afford it at the time) a few years back, probably no more than five. I would say it looked recent, so I wouldn’t expect it to be older than the year 2000. I can’t say if the book was a paperback or not but I remember it was, uhh, horizontal? (Not sure what that’s called in English. I just mean it was not as tall as regular books, but… longer to the sides?)

I can’t recall what the cover looked like (but I bet it was also black and white) nor the name of the author. I live in Mexico so I’m dreading the idea that the book may be by local author ‘cause that would mean my chances of figuring out the title and finding it again are close to none.

Any help is much appreciated!

Erika, glad you found your book. Would you say it's more for young adults/teens or older adults?

I think it's okay that you moved it to the YA section. Only reason I mentioned it was not a kid's book was because I didn't want tit to be confused with a nursery type of book and because the ending is (I think) the mouse dying. But YA should work fine. Thank you! :)
