I review American historical novels, present information about important individuals in American history (currently Frederick Douglass), write about my novel in progress (about Algonquians at and near Roanoke Island in 1583-1585), present excerpts from my first historical novel (about participants in the Battles of Lexington and Concord April 19, 1775), and delve into other history-related subjects.

Hi Georgia,

I was wondering if you would be interested in reviewing children's books.

I am looking for book reviewers to review 2 of my eBooks, Big and Small in the Mirror, and The Magic Leaf. I have a 3rd book, Humanitarians, Visionaries, Heroes, and You, which is available in print only.

Big and Small in the Mirror is about bullying that happens in the school environment. The two main characters, Carlo and Marco, learn the effects of bullying on their self-images and how positive relationships help them grow. The book is appropriate for children between 8-10 years old.

I provide discussion questions at the end of the book to help parents and teachers facilitate a discussion about bullying, and to put the story in perspective.

The Magic Leaf is about a small-town boy who learns the value of friendship. The appropriate reading age would be 6-8. It has beautiful illustrations.

Humanitarians, Visionaries, Heroes, and You is a collection of 7 inspiring mini-biographies and my own reflections, intended to encourage the reader to join a growing movement towards social responsibility and global citizenship. This book is for an older audience (10 – 12+). It is sold on my website and Amazon.ca.

If you decide to review one or both of the eBooks, I will send a copy to you. Both eBooks are on Amazon and in the iBooks Store, so you can choose a Kindle or ePub copy.

If you want a copy of Humanitarians, Visionaries, Heroes, and You, let me know.

Thank you for your time.

Warm regards,
Mary

Bill Ricardi (billricardi) | 22 comments Instead of just posting my author website, I'm going to list some of the technology the site is using. I thought it might be helpful to anyone who wanted to do a simple book or author website for themselves.

The site is:

http://www.billricardi.com

This site is running on Linux, using the Apache web server. This is free and open source software. The site itself uses standard HTML, leveraging the amazing PureCSS for its cascading style sheets. This means the site is responsive, another way of saying that it adjusts well to bigger or smaller screens on the fly.

If you click on the Maps link on the lower left, you'll see a small map gallery. This is accomplished with a little added code that achieves an effect called 'lightboxing'. Feel free to check out the source code that has been added to that page to see how you accomplish this in PureCSS.

My main goal with the site is simple, effective advertisement of my latest novel, while providing Amazon links to the three main regions where the book is sold. This also means that I can benefit from affiliate links if I drive my own traffic to Amazon and they purchase my book.

I also use simple redirects from my domain name registration service to redirect two other domains to my site. Visiting either of these sites gives you a brief, amusing message, and then goes to billricardi.com :

http://mesmartorc.com/

http://anotherstupidspell.com/

This also allows me to break out individual sites for the book (called 'Another Stupid Spell') or the main character's first words in the series (Me smart orc.) if I wish. For example, once the sequel comes out, I may redirect Me Smart Orc to something about the trilogy, and Another Stupid Spell to an individual page for just that book.

I hope this helps anyone who is thinking of hosting their own website for their novel or their body of work.

Cheers,

Bill Ricardi

No Name | 3 comments Hi, I am opening myself to being a reviewer for Indie authors only. I want to support the Indie authors. I am a lover of romance books so I will asl individuals to recommend their book and I will select one at a time and read. Any book that is selected will be reviewed on Amazon and on Goodreads. This is 100% free and will not be influenced by offers and gifts. A 5 star review is also not guaranteed. Reviews will be posted to the Facebook page. This is start up, but my goal in the future is to get a few other honest reviewers who do this just for the love of books and supporting Indie authors. If anyone is interested, like the Facebook page here :
