S.J. Higgins | 173 comments Hiya,

What are your favorite snacks to munch on while writing? Right now I'm halfway through a slab of mint chocolate. I'd like to say it aids the creative process but that would be fibbing :)

Honestly, it depends on the mood I'm in. Coffee and tea are required though.

But mint helps to stabilize the brain, and chocolate has been scientifically proven to help combat run on sentences. (maybe?)

Maymunah Azad | 60 comments A packet of Sensations Thai sweet chilli crisps + Vimto bonbons + some flavoured squash. I should probably be getting fat, but I think I burn off all that energy through my fingers and brain! ;)

message 6: by P.D. (new)

P.D. Workman (pdworkman) I'm already too fat and try to avoid snacking during writing time. Sometimes suck on a hard candy or eat an apple. Keep my water handy.

I am of the opinion that when we are writing from our characters POV's then the calories belong to the characters. Therefore no weight gain. Bonus!

If only it worked that way...sigh

message 9: by Hákon (new)

Hákon Gunnarsson | 53 comments I always think tea, and nuts make good combination while writing. I wonder if that is the reason why all these squirrels keep popping up in my stories.

message 10: by Ben (new)

Ben Mariner I like food too much to do anything else while I'm eating. If I try it just becomes all about the food until it's gone.

message 11: by Narayan (new)

Narayan Liu (narayanliu) | 28 comments I usually have a slice of pie and a cup of coffee in my favourite cafe while I write. I don't know what it is about that stuff that helps me, it just does...which isn't always a good thing if my growing midriff is any indication.

Millions would die in the glitter mines... but it would be worth it. A noble sacrifice!

message 13: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez I love food but i can rarely eat and write lol i'm much too easily distracted and will just focus on the food. that said, when i do eat and write it's usually something not greasy or just messy in general. so no chips or chocolate for me :(

Lincoln Cole | 22 comments Michael wrote: "I love food but i can rarely eat and write lol i'm much too easily distracted and will just focus on the food. that said, when i do eat and write it's usually something not greasy or just messy in ..."

Same with me. i'm messy and i usually forget to eat anyway. I am just starving when I get done.

message 15: by Grace (new)

Grace Crandall (gracecrandall) | 79 comments I usually have a beverage or two going while I write. Anything caffeinated works, though I need different types of caffeine at different points in the day... Coffee works best in the morning, energy drinks like Monster are awesome for midday and decaf black tea is very inspiring at night :) I can't have food while I work though, it covers my keyboard with crumbs :D

message 16: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez lol yes the mess i cannot stand, especially when there are greasy fingers and it smears the paper or the keyboard and its just agh lol it gets to me ^^"

I'm with you there, which is why I've developed a crumb-proof, grease-free method. You'll need a bowl to hold under the chocolate and you use the wrapper so no chocolate gets on your fingers. When there's a will there's a way ;)

you just turned my world upside down. and perhaps a chance that you may have created a monster O.O be right back, gonna get me a bowl lol

message 19: by Micah (new)

Micah Sisk (micahrsisk) | 1042 comments Coffee or espresso or a four-shot Americano usually does the trick.

Although ... I have been munching on some little smoked pork bits (halfway between a sausage and jerky) chased down with crunchy fresh Serrano chili peppers.

message 20: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Ebert (heart77) | 11 comments Popcorn, sour cream and onion Pringles, Pepsi, Diet Coke, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, tuna with crackers, string cheese. I am a human garbage disposal.

message 21: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Coffee or water. I have to have a beverage at all times. I try not to eat while writing, though. Aside from the mess factor, keeping my weight down is medically necessary, which is probably the worst diet ever.

message 22: by Chad (new)

Chad Descoteaux Cheez-Its.

message 23: by Lyra (new)

Lyra Shanti (lyrashanti) | 126 comments I love having tea while writing, especially winter spice tea. I can't always do that though. Ice cold water is a must at all times. Food? I've done snacks when starving, but I really shouldn't. My poor laptop is a mess already!

message 24: by S.J. (new)

message 27: by Owen (new)

Owen O'Neill (owen_r_oneill) | 1509 comments Wine is very useful. I'm going to go get some. Chocolate is great, too. So is coffee.

I'm not sure about chocolate helping to combat run on sentences. But then, I love run-on sentences -- just love them. My record is 169 words, but with enough wine & chocolate & coffee, I'm gunning for 200.

Words to live by! (Although my writing might drive an editor to drink.)

message 29: by T.L. (new)

T.L. Clark (tlcauthor) | 727 comments Chocolate biscuits with tea or coffee for me.
I even smuggled some into the retreat I went to when I was finishing my last book! ;-P

CB; if one were to die in a glitter mine I'd at least be happy to be leaving a pretty sparkly corpse ;-o

I generally don't eat while writing, but I nearly always have coffee. And fortunately, in my three favorite places to write, home, coffee shop and library, coffee is plentiful.

message 31: by Rachael (new)

Rachael Eyre (rachaeleyre) | 194 comments Pringles, nuts, chocolate buttons ... the short answer is I'm a human dustbin.

Oddly chocolate nearly always ends up on the steamier passages. I'm not sure what that signifies.

message 32: by Eva (new)

Eva Pasco (evapasco) | 90 comments Bottled water and a slab of Nestles crunch.

message 33: by Gisele (new)

Gisele Walko | 14 comments The best snack ever is potato chips mixed with mini pretzels. I don't know why the flavors compliment each other so well.

Well, since I mostly write while in coffeehouses, my adult drink of choice isn't available.

Writing at home? Scotch.

message 36: by L.N. (new)

L.N. Denison | 6 comments I have a bag of peanut M&M's and a bottle of brother's Toffee Apple Cider...but not all the time, sometimes I go with just Earl Grey Green Tea.

message 39: by Jane (new)

Jane Jago | 888 comments Mostly not a snacker. But. A very large drink sometimes helps when the characters are being particularly bolshie....

message 40: by Ben (new)

Ben Jackson | 86 comments I agree with Gisele above, chips mixed with pretzels are pretty amazing!

Along with a Jack Daniel's and Coke to wash them down.

Works well for a little while...

message 41: by Michael (new)

Michael Benavidez Currently got some chips and a coke. Messy but man I'm thirsty lol

message 42: by L.N. (new)

L.N. Denison | 6 comments Toffee apple cider is awesome. I could happily get drunk on it...but I won't. I restrict myself to one bottle every other day.

I love this! Depends on the time of day, before 11:00 AM coffee or tea after that some sort of alcoholic beverage.......... bourbon, wine, a beer........... depends on what my characters are doing, but definitely an adult beverage, no umbrella required :)

*Raises glass*

message 47: by Safa (new)

Safa Shaqsy (safashaqsy) | 54 comments I used to eat alot of chips... then I started eating fruits instead and that's when I don't write.
When I'm in the middle of writing I even forget to breath.
Yes, that dramatic.

message 48: by Missy (new)

Missy Sheldrake (missysheldrake) | 252 comments My favorite writing snack is a cheesy turtle from the Korean bakery and a cup of tea. :)
Cheesy turtle is a really cute bun shaped like a turtle, with sweet cream cheese filling inside. Yum!

message 49: by Susan (new)

Susan Stafford | 230 comments I've never heard of a 'cheesy turtle' but that sounds delicious & so cute, a turtle shaped pastry - love cream cheese!!!

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments Hubby always has chocolate on his desk. It's hard to resist. Right now he has chocolate covered raisins and walnuts, but it changes every time.
