I'm very new to goodreads.. have just discovered groups!

Wonderful to meet you all!

Angela | 4 comments (I have joined a few groups, hope you don't mind that I use the same message for all of them)

Hi all

My name is Angela and I have just rediscovered Goodreads.
I guess my first introduction to Paranormal was Anne Rice. I was mainly a fantasy reader eg Robert Jordan but fell in love with the vampire ect genre. At the time, when I was reading Anne Rice, there wasn't much else around. I rediscovered the genre with Anita Blake. Though I loved the earlier ones in the series I have grown slightly bored with it. (Sorry if I offend)
My favorite series at the moment are - Women of the Underworld, The Hallow series and the Dante Valentine series. I have just read Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep which I really enjoyed.
Hope to get some good recommendations and chat's from this group.

Tamara Hi,

I am Tamara from Belgium, i'm 25 years.
Some of my favorite books are the Twilight sage, the Sookie Stackhouse series, Vampire Academy, Anita Blake and a lot more :-)
I recently started reading English books, because I had to wait too long before they were published in my language. I'm sorry if my English is not good.

message 355: by Chantal (new)

Chantal Halpin | 21 comments Hi,
I'm Chantal from the UK. I'm 34 year old married mother of two. I am completely new to Good Reads and am trying to find my way around. I love reading and writing.
Some of my favourite books and authors are: Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning, Kate Daniels Magic series by Ilona Andrews, Mercedes Thompson series by Patrica Briggs, Sookie series by Charlaine Harris, Cat & Bones series by Jeaniene Frost, Shifter series by Rachel Vincent, Morganville Vamps by Rachel Caine, Magic series by Devon Monk, The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, Riley Jenson series by Keri Arthur, Merry Gentry and Anita Blake series by Laurell K.Hamilton, Jane True series by Nicole Peeler....you get the general idea :)
Anyway I hope to be able to chat with you all and pass on/receive recommendations - you can never have too many in the TBR list!

Kate (Kate1) | 14 comments Hi everybody!
I'm Kate from Germany, I'm 22 years old and studying Germa and History to be a teacher in a few years.
I love to read and to write and getting to now people from all over the world. I've been reading UF for quite a while now and I love it =) Oh and I'm writing reviews for a blog which shows reviews in German and English, even if the book is till time of review only published in one language, just to get some readers interested in trying to read in another language. (Which I do most of the time, it just takes too long for English-books to be published in German)
To name a favourite book is difficult for me, I just love too much :D
My other hobbies are my dog and I recently got into sewing, I made the white Confessor dress from the Sword-of-thruth tv seires for my best friend and me when we went to a Fantasyconvention. Now I'm planning on my next costume already, even if the next Con is only in October 2011...
Oh and I'm working in the library of my University, so I'm most of my time surrounded by books xD

message 358: by Adam (new)

Adam Santo (locoduc) | 1 comments Hello, my name is Adam Santo. I am a writer without much to say. Does that seem wrong somehow? I write a novel and don't know what say in a post.
Anyway, I would like to introduce my book - Temperature: Dead and Rising - A story based in Colorado Springs, Co. where the dead are on the run. I used to live there and now reside in Fl.

message 359: by Cole (new)

Cole | 2 comments Hi, I'm Cole. I'm 26, currently living in North Carolina. Although I've put away quite a few books in my time, the urge to plow through some good literature seems to come and go. I'm on a pretty good kick right now, currently reading every paranormal P.I. novel I can find.

message 360: by Becca (new)

Becca (goblinfan) | 215 comments Hello there, Cole. I love good paranormal P.I. books myself, though I have trouble finding them. Which are your favorites, and any other suggestions?

message 361: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah_anne) | 4 comments Hello! My name is Sarah. I'm 28, married with 2 kids, a dog and a cat. Though I always have plenty to do between home/work/kids, I LOVE to read and try to make time each day to curl up with a good book!

Recently, I have rediscovered my local library and have been making good use of it rather than purchasing books that won't fit on my already full bookshelves. I trend towards PNR and UF, though I like a good suspense/thriller story as well.

message 362: by Ladiibbug (new)

Ladiibbug Welcome to Adam, Cole, Sarah and any other newcomers :-)

I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. My hobbies include reading and writing. Favorite authors include Jeanine Frost, Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Jocelynn Drake, Keri Arthur... just to name a few.

Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!

message 364: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cathepsut) Hi there! My name is Cathy, I'm 42 years old and live in Germany. I've been heavily addicted to Urban Fantasy for a few years now and I am always looking for interesting new authors. I love Patricia Briggs, Charlaine Harris, Carrie Vaughn, Laurell K Hamilton... I just finished the third book in the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong and right now I am reading the second Cassie Palmer novel by Karen Chance. I am always happy when I find a series that I like. Looking forward to finding some good books here in this group...

Hi Jacquie:

Have you tried C E Murphy. I really like her books and Kelley Armstrong is great. Jessica Andersen is really good too. Patricia Briggs, Michelle Sagara/West has a few series. Hope this helps.
Jo

Hi Jo,
I love Patricia Briggs and Kelley Armstrong, but I haven't tried the others yet. Thanks for the tip, I'll look into them :)
Jacquie

message 368: by Sabina (new)

Sabina Kines | 3 comments Hi, I'm Sabina and am a teen from the Czech republic. I love PNR and UF. I like the twilight saga because it's what got me started in this genre. But my favorite PNR series is the Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead and my favorite UF series is the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. I also love Kelley Armstrong and many more......:)

message 369: by Gen (new)

Gen (gen454) Hey, I'm Gen and I adore urban fantasy. My favorite UF books are the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.

Maja (The Nocturnal Library) (glavauoblacima) | 2 comments Hi, my name is Maja (read: Maya), but here I go by Glavauoblacima (or Headintheclouds in english :)). I'm really into UF, and I guess my favorites are the Mercy Thompson series and the Southern Vampire Mysteries. The Night Huntress series as well. But I'm always looking for some new books.

Btw, I just finished Mind games. So I guess I'm in. ;)

message 371: by Rich (new)

Rich Hi, My name is Rich, 37, married with an 8 month old daughter and I blame the Dresden Files for starting my addiction to the UF Genre. Just finished Game of Cages by Harry Connolly and needed a new book for the metro ride home and here I am. Looking forward to Mind Games.

message 372: by Robert (new)

Robert (riakin) Evenin' all. My name is Robert. I can also blame Harry Dresden for my introduction to Urban Fantasy. My wife and I live in Tennessee, and we're eagerly anticipating our first child...a baby girl named Emma Paige.

In addition to UF, I find myself mildly addicted to space opera novels.

I'm an avid chess player, golfer, and mathematics teacher.

message 373: by Ceil (new)

Ceil (ceilmary) | 1 comments Hi, I live in Upstate NY and it's really cold here! So reading is what I do for a fun right now. I enjoy Charles de Lint, the Borderland series, an occasional paranormal (Kelly Armstrong is pretty good); I like Emma Bull and Terry Windling. I read a lot of fantasy and science fiction, too, and a lot of those wander into the UF territory.

message 374: by Anika (new)

Anika (teddybear1) | 110 comments HI All, I'm Anika from the island Bermuda i joined w/in the last 6 months. I became addicted to reading after the movie Twilight and found out they had books and when i started reading i couldn't wait to move on the next book. Books are so much better than the movies with the detail. I have read the group read for this month "Mind Games". I finished book 2 maybe a month or two back and this series the story gets more interesting. I'm looking forward to book 3. But like i like UF and PR that's mainly what i read.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 41 comments Hi, my name is Christina. Though I've been a member of Goodreads for awhile now, it's only been very recently that I've taken an interest in the groups because of the reading challenges. I'm a reading challenge addict, so I enjoy finding different challenges (though I don't always join them, I still like to see what others are doing).

On the UF front, my favorite is the Kate Daniels series. I've recently read and enjoyed the first Mercy Thompson, and the first book in the new series by Christina Henry (Madeline Black). I have, in my TBR pile, the first book for several others that I hope to get around to reading soon.

I've been reading more and more romance over the last several years, so I've been following more PNR than UF series -- Andersen's "The Final Prophecy"; Ashwood's "The Dark Forgotten"; Cooke's "Dragonfire" to name my current favorites.

I prefer shape-shifters to vampires, but I'm willing to give the vamps a try on a case-by-case basis -- so I'll definitely be joining the March book read!

message 376: by Pamela (new)

Pamela Ennis (goodreadscomyahoo_pam) | 8 comments Welcome to all the newcomers. I have loved the UF books for awhile and its nice to have new blood and opinions to read about.

message 377: by Thess (new)

Thess (thuss) Hello to you all!
I'm Thess, i'm 32 and i'm from Sweden. I have a son that just turned 1 in December and my maternityleave just about ended:) I have spent the last year plowing through book after book since I found myself with alot of time at my hands, now it's to a point when I can't stop even if I wanted to. I love reading almost to much if that's possible and every free time I can get I spend with my nose in a book.
Always been a vampirefreak, since I was a kid, and I had no idea there was so many books to loose myself in.
Nice to meet you ;)

message 378: by Jupiter1 (new)

Jupiter1 | 29 comments Hello to everyone! I've checked out this group a few times before and decided I'd finally join. I'm in school and I take a lot of classes so I won't be able to participate as much as I would like, but I'll try to read and join group discussions when I can. I love to read UF books but I'll read pretty much anything in the science fiction fantasy genre if it sounds good. My favorite authors are Rachel Caine, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher, and many more. :) Anyway, I'm glad to be a part of this group and it's nice to meet all of you!

message 379: by Sketching (new)

Sketching Girl (sketchinggirl) | 2 comments Hello Everyone, I am Sketching Girl, I am a 28 year old aspiring artist and writer in England. I love science-fiction and urban fantasy novels. I think my favourite urban fantasy has to be Dresden Files (Jim Butcher). I used to read lots and lots, but over the last couple of years for some reason I've hardly read at all. I have a pile of books on my shelf just waiting to be read, so I'm going to purposely dig through them this year - and joining GoodReads.com should hopefully help! I would like to make new friends on here who share the same interests!

Welcome Robert,

Who do you read in space operas? Simon R. Green's UF Nightside series led me to his Deathstalker series (my first "space opera" read), which is great fun.

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) | 14 comments Hi Everyone, My name is Stormi and I am a book addict! I love a lot of different genres and I am a little behind in the UF genre and just started reading The Fever series(not sure if that UF or Paranormal..I get those confused..lol) anyway I am really liking it. Since I am sort of behind does anyone know of some good series that might not be all sexed up..lol..not that I can't handle a bit but I want a good story first then a little romance, but would prefer mor action. )

message 382: by Martin (new)

Martin (mafrid) | 23 comments Hi!
My name is Martin and I'm a programmer from Sweden who loves books and have read them for about as long as I can remember. After boyhood years with Famous Fives, Hardy twins and my dad's old Biggles I found fantasy through Tolkien and was hooked. After a number of years of fantasy I grew weary of the repetition in Sword & Sorcery and stumbled into Urban Fantasy and found a new drug. Unfortunately I can't for the life of me remember what got me hooked on UF, but the current favorites are Kelley Armstrong's amazing otherworld series, Patricia Briggs's Mercedes Thompson (although she also writes amazing fantasy) and Mike Carey's
Felix Castor books.
I should probably let you know that I have a fairly strong aversion towards the genre label 'Urban Fantasy' (and not the books), but I'll try not to rant about it. If that is reason enough to revoke my membership then it's time to hit the eject button right now. :-)

message 383: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone,
My name is Claire and I am an Architectural Designer from Yorkshire in the UK. I have been reading UF for the past couple of years now and can't get enough of it. I am new to Goodreads and would hopefully like to get book recommendations and make new friends. I have just finished reading The Bitter Seed Of Magic by Suzanne Mcleod (it was awesome) and some of my favourite authors are Lilith Saintcrow, Devon Monk, Chloe Neill and Kim Harrison.

message 384: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (dixiehellcat) | 1 comments hi everybody. I'm a goodreads noob, my name is Lisa. I'm a speech therapist in TN. I love UF and sf/f/h in general. My fave UF stuff right now is Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson/Alpha and Omega verse. I have a couple of Kim Harrison books but haven't gotten to read them yet. Also like Kelley Armstrong & Amber Benson (Death's Daughter FTW!)

Oh, and I like steampunk too. Check out Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate books yall. :-)

message 385: by Ladiibbug (new)

Ladiibbug Welcome to all the newcomers!

message 386: by Maryab (new)

Maryab Maryab (maryabshire) Hello everyone! I just joined recently. I'm starting to find more UF groups.

PR and UF are my favorite genres, though I do read a little fantasy. I have several fave authors and I enjoy talking about books. Currently, I'm reading a K. Sparks book. I haven't read her entire series. Started with #5 (I think) and loved it. Now, I'm on book 6.
My TBR piles are out of control, most of which I got for free. I love reading and writing. Just wish I could do it full time. LOL.

Happy reading!

message 387: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fireweaver) | 63 comments hi all!

just stumbled across this group and I'm totally in love with the previous book of the month selections (and sad I missed a few of them), so looking forward to exploring new series & new versions of the familar stuff (amazing how many times someone can come up with something new & cool about werewolves!) with you guys.

message 388: by JackieR (new)

JackieR (readthat) | 93 comments Hi everyone,

I am new to goodreads website and loving it. I am 40 yrs old and living in the Chicago area. I have two teenagers (help me) which means (theoretically) I have more time to read.

Urban fantasy is my favorite leaning towards shifter series, but I love anything paranormal or related. Just looking through this site I have already found a few books and series I hadn't heard of before, so I am looking forward to discovering and having fun!

message 389: by Yaz (new)

Yaz | 13 comments Hi I'm Yasmeen. I'm a bit obsessed with urban fantasy books at the moment. My favourite authors are Karen Chance, Patricia Briggs, Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, but to name a few. Even though I love pnr and fantasy genres, I'm fed up with books with more sex than substance. I don't mind as long as it's part of the progression of the story. And I'm not fond of books dealing with angels or religion.
Some of the best books I've read recently are Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning, Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa and Pale Demon by Kim Harrison.

message 390: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 7 comments Hi all! Im Danielle and Im from the UK...somewhere in the North East :) Im old enough to buy my own alcohol but young enough that I still have that spark of innocence...occasionally. Urban fantasy is my predominant genre, I found it last year whilst reading The Demons Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan, fell in love and never looked back. Im pretty friendly and don't bite...unless you're into that sort of thing lol. Feel free to chat :D

message 391: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (kevinhallock) | 36 comments Hi everyone, I'm a researcher in Massachusetts, USA and I don't read as much urban fantasy as I'd like, but still love the genre. I'm currently in a phase of reading as widely as possible, so I never know what I'll read next.

message 392: by Maeva (new)

Maeva | 1 comments Hey to all, I'm Maeva.
I'm currently trying to divided time between reading fantasy as much as possible and studying in college. (URGH!!)
I read Urban Fantasy, but most of them are YA.
As for now, I'm loving Cassandra Clare's works, and Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers series.
Still, I think I did a great job on that. :)

message 393: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi all,

I'm Moss, mum to Krakens (two of them), and boss of no-one. My first love is PNR, but I do have a place in my heart for good UF. The BOM is one of them, and I'm so pleased to be able to chat to other people about it. Look forward to talking to you all :)

After reading your favorite shows list, I might have a suggestion for you: Supernatural on CW Friday nights at 9 pm. New episodes don't start up again until April 16th :'( But it's a great show. TNT also plays reruns of the previous seasons at 10 and 11 am during the week.

Jessica (kwakwa) | 11 comments Hi! i just joined the group and i'm hoping to get lots of ideas for my to-read list! I've only just gotten into urban fantasy but so far i'm absolutely loving it, it's opened a whole new world of reading for me!

message 397: by Martin (new)

Martin (mafrid) | 23 comments Welcome to all the newcomers and as plenty of you have expressed a desire for tips of new authors/books please take the time to browse the recommendations section where there are number of very rewarding threads on different UF categories.
If you don't find something new there, you're not really looking. :-)

message 398: by Jussy (new)

Jussy (j-s-e) Hi I'm Jussy, just found another group to join. I love the UF/PNR genres. These groups are great for deciding which book to buy next.

message 399: by Heather (new)

Heather (johnstohfrontiercom) Hi all, My name is Heather and I am from the mid-west. I always hated reading and my husband would tease me because he had such a reading obsession. I work with teens and decided to read Twilight to get in touch with my clientele. Well, that was 18 month's ago and I have not stopped reading since. My husband now thinks I'm a freak because I am always reading. I am wearing my i-pod out!

I read lots of UF and some YA. Paranormal Romance goes a little too far for me but I enjoy fantasy as well. My favorite books right now are the Night Huntress Series (I love Cat and Bones!) and the Chicago Land Vampire Series by Chloe Niel. I am really glad to have others to share opinions with.
