Urban Fantasy discussion
Welcome to the Group! Introduce yourself...

Hi all
My name is Angela and I have just rediscovered Goodreads.
I guess my first introduction to Paranormal was Anne Rice. I was mainly a fantasy reader eg Robert Jordan but fell in love with the vampire ect genre. At the time, when I was reading Anne Rice, there wasn't much else around. I rediscovered the genre with Anita Blake. Though I loved the earlier ones in the series I have grown slightly bored with it. (Sorry if I offend)
My favorite series at the moment are - Women of the Underworld, The Hallow series and the Dante Valentine series. I have just read Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep which I really enjoyed.
Hope to get some good recommendations and chat's from this group.

I am Tamara from Belgium, i'm 25 years.
Some of my favorite books are the Twilight sage, the Sookie Stackhouse series, Vampire Academy, Anita Blake and a lot more :-)
I recently started reading English books, because I had to wait too long before they were published in my language. I'm sorry if my English is not good.

I'm Chantal from the UK. I'm 34 year old married mother of two. I am completely new to Good Reads and am trying to find my way around. I love reading and writing.
Some of my favourite books and authors are: Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning, Kate Daniels Magic series by Ilona Andrews, Mercedes Thompson series by Patrica Briggs, Sookie series by Charlaine Harris, Cat & Bones series by Jeaniene Frost, Shifter series by Rachel Vincent, Morganville Vamps by Rachel Caine, Magic series by Devon Monk, The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, Riley Jenson series by Keri Arthur, Merry Gentry and Anita Blake series by Laurell K.Hamilton, Jane True series by Nicole Peeler....you get the general idea :)
Anyway I hope to be able to chat with you all and pass on/receive recommendations - you can never have too many in the TBR list!

I'm Kate from Germany, I'm 22 years old and studying Germa and History to be a teacher in a few years.
I love to read and to write and getting to now people from all over the world. I've been reading UF for quite a while now and I love it =) Oh and I'm writing reviews for a blog which shows reviews in German and English, even if the book is till time of review only published in one language, just to get some readers interested in trying to read in another language. (Which I do most of the time, it just takes too long for English-books to be published in German)
To name a favourite book is difficult for me, I just love too much :D
My other hobbies are my dog and I recently got into sewing, I made the white Confessor dress from the Sword-of-thruth tv seires for my best friend and me when we went to a Fantasyconvention. Now I'm planning on my next costume already, even if the next Con is only in October 2011...
Oh and I'm working in the library of my University, so I'm most of my time surrounded by books xD

Anyway, I would like to introduce my book - Temperature: Dead and Rising - A story based in Colorado Springs, Co. where the dead are on the run. I used to live there and now reside in Fl.

Recently, I have rediscovered my local library and have been making good use of it rather than purchasing books that won't fit on my already full bookshelves. I trend towards PNR and UF, though I like a good suspense/thriller story as well.

I'm new to the group and thought I'd say hello and introduce myself.
My name is Mary Abshire and I am a lover of paranormal. Call me an addict and I'm fine with that! I love urban fantasy as well.
I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. My hobbies include reading and writing. Favorite authors include Jeanine Frost, Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong, Jocelynn Drake, Keri Arthur... just to name a few.
Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!
Mary Abshire

Hi Jacquie:
Have you tried C E Murphy. I really like her books and Kelley Armstrong is great. Jessica Andersen is really good too. Patricia Briggs, Michelle Sagara/West has a few series. Hope this helps.
Jo

Hi Jo,
I love Patricia Briggs and Kelley Armstrong, but I haven't tried the others yet. Thanks for the tip, I'll look into them :)
Jacquie

Btw, I just finished Mind games. So I guess I'm in. ;)

In addition to UF, I find myself mildly addicted to space opera novels.
I'm an avid chess player, golfer, and mathematics teacher.

On the UF front, my favorite is the Kate Daniels series. I've recently read and enjoyed the first Mercy Thompson, and the first book in the new series by Christina Henry (Madeline Black). I have, in my TBR pile, the first book for several others that I hope to get around to reading soon.
I've been reading more and more romance over the last several years, so I've been following more PNR than UF series -- Andersen's "The Final Prophecy"; Ashwood's "The Dark Forgotten"; Cooke's "Dragonfire" to name my current favorites.
I prefer shape-shifters to vampires, but I'm willing to give the vamps a try on a case-by-case basis -- so I'll definitely be joining the March book read!

I'm Thess, i'm 32 and i'm from Sweden. I have a son that just turned 1 in December and my maternityleave just about ended:) I have spent the last year plowing through book after book since I found myself with alot of time at my hands, now it's to a point when I can't stop even if I wanted to. I love reading almost to much if that's possible and every free time I can get I spend with my nose in a book.
Always been a vampirefreak, since I was a kid, and I had no idea there was so many books to loose myself in.
Nice to meet you ;)

Welcome Robert,
Who do you read in space operas? Simon R. Green's UF Nightside series led me to his Deathstalker series (my first "space opera" read), which is great fun.

My name is Martin and I'm a programmer from Sweden who loves books and have read them for about as long as I can remember. After boyhood years with Famous Fives, Hardy twins and my dad's old Biggles I found fantasy through Tolkien and was hooked. After a number of years of fantasy I grew weary of the repetition in Sword & Sorcery and stumbled into Urban Fantasy and found a new drug. Unfortunately I can't for the life of me remember what got me hooked on UF, but the current favorites are Kelley Armstrong's amazing otherworld series, Patricia Briggs's Mercedes Thompson (although she also writes amazing fantasy) and Mike Carey's
Felix Castor books.
I should probably let you know that I have a fairly strong aversion towards the genre label 'Urban Fantasy' (and not the books), but I'll try not to rant about it. If that is reason enough to revoke my membership then it's time to hit the eject button right now. :-)
Hi everyone,
My name is Claire and I am an Architectural Designer from Yorkshire in the UK. I have been reading UF for the past couple of years now and can't get enough of it. I am new to Goodreads and would hopefully like to get book recommendations and make new friends. I have just finished reading The Bitter Seed Of Magic by Suzanne Mcleod (it was awesome) and some of my favourite authors are Lilith Saintcrow, Devon Monk, Chloe Neill and Kim Harrison.

Oh, and I like steampunk too. Check out Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate books yall. :-)

PR and UF are my favorite genres, though I do read a little fantasy. I have several fave authors and I enjoy talking about books. Currently, I'm reading a K. Sparks book. I haven't read her entire series. Started with #5 (I think) and loved it. Now, I'm on book 6.
My TBR piles are out of control, most of which I got for free. I love reading and writing. Just wish I could do it full time. LOL.
Happy reading!

just stumbled across this group and I'm totally in love with the previous book of the month selections (and sad I missed a few of them), so looking forward to exploring new series & new versions of the familar stuff (amazing how many times someone can come up with something new & cool about werewolves!) with you guys.

I am new to goodreads website and loving it. I am 40 yrs old and living in the Chicago area. I have two teenagers (help me) which means (theoretically) I have more time to read.
Urban fantasy is my favorite leaning towards shifter series, but I love anything paranormal or related. Just looking through this site I have already found a few books and series I hadn't heard of before, so I am looking forward to discovering and having fun!

Some of the best books I've read recently are Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning, Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa and Pale Demon by Kim Harrison.

Danielle x

I'm currently trying to divided time between reading fantasy as much as possible and studying in college. (URGH!!)
I read Urban Fantasy, but most of them are YA.
As for now, I'm loving Cassandra Clare's works, and Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers series.
Still, I think I did a great job on that. :)
Hi all,
I'm Moss, mum to Krakens (two of them), and boss of no-one. My first love is PNR, but I do have a place in my heart for good UF. The BOM is one of them, and I'm so pleased to be able to chat to other people about it. Look forward to talking to you all :)

looking forward to discussing books and getting recommendations for more reads :)

After reading your favorite shows list, I might have a suggestion for you: Supernatural on CW Friday nights at 9 pm. New episodes don't start up again until April 16th :'( But it's a great show. TNT also plays reruns of the previous seasons at 10 and 11 am during the week.

If you don't find something new there, you're not really looking. :-)

I read lots of UF and some YA. Paranormal Romance goes a little too far for me but I enjoy fantasy as well. My favorite books right now are the Night Huntress Series (I love Cat and Bones!) and the Chicago Land Vampire Series by Chloe Niel. I am really glad to have others to share opinions with.
