Urban Fantasy discussion
Welcome to the Group! Introduce yourself...

I'm currently working my way through Kim Harrison's Hollows series, having devoured Richelle Meade's Succubus books and Laurell K Hamilton's Merry Gentry series. I've also started Mark Henwick's UF series by reading the prequel, Raw Deal.
I have limited reading time as I'm also a writer - one epic fantasy and one urban fantasy out so far - but good reading is a pre-requisite for good writing, so I make time.
Looking forward to finding out more about this group.

Im new to the site, looking for readers and authors I can network with. Im currently writing my first urban novel and im so excited!!! any advice, pointers, recommendations, etc is more than welcomed.

Join a critique group, prioritize your writing, and have a total blast. That's my three pennies worth of wisdom. Best with your novel.

You may have to contact a Goodreads Librarian for that...

My name is Jennifer and I am a huge fan of urban fantasy books. I live in Calgary Canada and am looking forward to group/buddy reads and reading challenges.

I'm Josephine. I read books like, IAD by Kresley Cole, BDB by J.R. Ward, Elemental assassins by Jennifer Estep, Shifter series by Rachel Vincent and soo much more.. I am also a newly published author. At the minute I'm reading Wild Things by Chloe Neil.

I am really thankful for all of the books on this site, and how people really answer your questions, and I cant wait until I finish my exams. After that, I can read the books we are supposed to read for the month, and all of the series I am behind.
Thanks for the support guys!!!

I'm Sandra. I live in London and love fantasy, especially urban fantasy, although not PNR so much. That said, I'll read anything if it's well written. :)
I'm fairly new to Goodreads but loving it so far! I've already posted a ton of books to my To Be Read pile. >rubs hands together gleefully<

My name is Christa. I began my love of reading later in my life.I now realize I have a lot of fantastic literature to catch up on. As I've eased into this journey of escaping, I've found myself drawn to fantasy and romance most. My favorite authors so far have been Gena Showalter and Karen Marie Moning.

I tell people i have no favorite when it comes to books, but truth be told i have never been able to turn down reading sci-fi and/or urban fantasy. And i love the continuity a series adds to a novel i like...but i hate it when i have to wait, sometimes years for a new installation.
At least i used to hate it, but then i discovered Goodreads and their recommend/similar/list that basically introduces you to authors/books quite like the ones you already know.I cant tell you how invaluable that has been to my reading life. I've discovered SO MANY book/authors i might never have otherwise even known of their existence.
The reading culture here in Nigeria is not as broad as i would have wanted. so, getting my kind of books often can be somewhat ...problematic. Still...
...okay...that should do...

I am a great fan of UF, but also have a love for PNR, some (normal) Romance, Pure fantasy.
If I love a book, I will re-read it endlessly most of the time, and I have a re-read list a mile long. I completely massacred my reading challenge last year by reading 180 new books (and secretly re-reading almost twice that). This year I vowed to read way less... I'm already at 54 new books :S and I don't want to know the number of re-reads. It's actually quite scary as reading isn't at all my only hobby and I never have time to spare, I also get way too few hours of sleep because of all the great books :)
Ingredients that make up a good book for me are:
- strong (but not perfect) characters
- mystery
- realistic romance
- anything supernatural is always a plus
Ingredients that KILL a book for me:
- adultery
- love-triangles
- too much sex(scenes)
I joined this group in an effort to find some more nice series to add to my to read list, because I'm running out of things I really want to read. But it's getting harder and harder to find some nice new reads.
So... that's (part) of me in a nutshell. Now I'm off to search for some nice recommendations.

I'm obsessed with southern urban fantasy and paranormal books. The swamp lands and backwoods of the South seem like the perfect backdrop for something otherworldly to me.
Hello! I'm Kiarna. Discovering this group on GR was a wonderful surprise and I thought I'd come read your book recommendations.
I've been reading non fiction for the last few years for writing research and am finally finding time to pick up fiction for pure pleasure again. UF is my favorite genre followed by SciFi (especially when the fictional world is similar to ours or is the same as ours).
I grew up on Heinlein, REH, Fritz Leiber, Tanith Lee, and Emma Bull. I'm hoping to find books by authors that are combining social justice issues and magic in ways that mirror real world practitioners from different world traditions. I'm also a comic book/manga/anime fan and love UF in those mediums.

Welcome everyone! I hope you are able to find a lot of great book recommendations in this group.

My name is Heather. I've been on goodreads for a while now, but I'm just now branching out into public book clubs in an effort to help find new fun and exciting books to read. I lean towards scifi, UF, dystopian, post-apocalyptic and some magic and paranormal stuff in my book choices.
Cheers!

my name is Mayko and I love urban fantsy. My 2 all time favorite book series are Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files and Karen Marie Moning's Fever. I love to read and look forward to making friends and sharing thoughts and ideas about books.
I am Trevor Williams, 31, currently in the USA. I've always loved reading growing up, as well as writing stories - my earliest story (it was mostly a picture book, but with text bubbles - hey, I was seven!) was inspired by a horror movie that I saw when I was just seven - "The Blob".
In high school, I wrote a lot of poetry and short stories, alongside my running my first (and only) Dungeons & Dragons campaign, which spanned nearly two years. During college, I dabbled a bit in journalism, but found more joy in being a DJ for the local radio station.
Today, I'm working full-time writing code and generally keeping the back-end of the nonprofit I work for up and running - work I really enjoy. Alongside that, I've been speaking at various nonprofit events concerning Salesforce and its benefits for nonprofits, which has been generating quite the snowball effect in terms of opportunities.
I would love to publish a work of fiction one day, but in the meantime, I've been busy working on some fan fiction that's dominated some blocks of time in my life alongside my friends and family. I've decided to post my story here on Goodreads to get it greater exposure and to learn more from all of you!

That's all I can think of to say. :)

I was born and raised in England but I made the move to the gorgeous city of Prague some 15 months ago. I have always been an avid reader and urban fantasy remains my favourite genre, it has so much potential. Away from reading and writing I'm a developmental editor, I suppose I'm somewhat obsessed with the written word and books! Outside of that I love horses and had 5 back in England, I rode for most of my life.
I think that about covers it!

I am (since December) a retired telecom engineer and have gone back to work for my ex-employer part-time as a contractor and am finally beginning to get some time for myself again. I live in Denton, Texas which lies just about 40 miles north of downtown Dallas.
I'll wander in and out of here and hope to find some good books to read. Normally I am reading a Kindle book, listening to an audiobook when driving, and reading REAL books simultaneously, as well as reading scifi anthologies and about 2 dozen comic books monthly.

Hello Dolores! Welcome to the group! I need to read that Monster Hunter International Series!

My favorite genre's are UF, PRN, a little YA here and there, NA, and anything/everything thats paranormal! I am currently obsessed with Emily McKay, Amber Lynn Natusch, and of course Rachel Vincent!
I am excited to a part of a new group! Thanks! !

My name is Ewa-Lotta Neander, I'm 36 years old and from Sweden. I live in the next biggest city; Gothenburg (or Göteborg, as it's called in Swedish) with my husband and two daughters. I love to read paranormal-mostly urban fantasy mysteries, and regular mysteries (not so interesting to this group).
I am excited to join this group and to get to know fellow fiction lovers!! I am currently re-reading graceling (high fantasy - I know).

I live outside DC with my husband, our young daughter, and our sheltie mix rescue dog. I'm expecting baby #2 in a couple of months. We're renovating our house, I write and consult for the government (very part-time), and I also teach karate when I'm not hugely pregnant. I also like baking too many desserts.
