Would You Rather?

- Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?

I'd rather read very good standalone novels

- Read only female or male authors?
That's very arbitrary, if I had to choose, I think female authors, I believe =S

- Shop only at bookshops or online?
This one is an easy one, if I had all the money I'd need to, I'd only buy at bookshops.
But books are reaaaally expensive here in Chile.

- All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
All books became TV shows, so they'd last longer =)

- Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
5 book per week =)

- Be a professional reviewer or author?
Reviewer, writing isn't my thing haha.

- Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
New ones

- Be a librarian or bookseller?
Librarian, I'd love to work at a public library, ithink they're so romantic, beautiful and full of mystery.

- Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?
Every genre except my favorite, I think if I only read my favorite it'd be meaningless after a while

Marta (gezemice) | 859 comments - Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?
Standalone. Way more of them!

- Read only female or male authors?
Ugh, I don't want to make that choice, either would exclude the greatest literature...

- Shop only at bookshops or online?
Online. I rarely go to a bookstore. I research all my books online.

- All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
Hmm. Tough one - long ones are better for tv shows, others for movies... perhaps movies, most books would make better movies.

- Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
That's not even a choice. 5 per week, of course!

- Be a professional reviewer or author?
Hmm, reviewer. I don't think I could write for a living.

- Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
I always read new ones anyway. I very rarely re-read books.

- Be a librarian or bookseller?
I have weird issues with claustrophobia in libraries so I have to pick
bookseller, even though I go to the library a lot, and almost never to the book store. I just go to the library to quickly find a book I already picked out online.

Book shops tend to be airier and brighter.

- Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?
I read almost all genres so I don't really have a clear favorite - I guess that means I can read everything either way?

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3266 comments Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?
Definitely stand alones. I find trilogies often run into the same problem -- the story is dragged out unnecessarily, or get repetitive.

Read only female or male authors?
As I've said in a few threads, I really don't care who the author is as long as the book is good and I never pick a book based on whether the author is male or female. I guess if I had to pick, I'd choose female since most of my favourites are female, but I would hate to miss out on some of the classics and favourites (ie. Narnia, Series of Unfortunate Events, Nicholas Sparks)

Shop only at bookshops or online?
Very tough one, since I love both. I actually currently do most of my shopping online because there isn't a bookstore that is too nearby (nearest is a half hour bus ride away, which isn't terrible). I think I'd still go for bookshops though. Even though online stores are more convenient, it's a lot more fun to actually browse the bookstore.

All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
Definitely movies, since every book becoming a tv show would be impossible to keep up with. A TV show would last longer, but I think for most books, a movie would do a better job of telling the story.

Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
Five books per week, and hopefully I'd be able to remember them all!

Be a professional reviewer or author?
Another tough one. I used to want to be a professional author, but now I'm leaning toward professional reviewer because it lets me read a ton of books, and I enjoy writing reviews of things. I don't think I'd have enough ideas to really be a professional author.

- Only read your top 20 favourite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
I'm assuming by "always read new ones" it means not being able to re-read old favourites...as much as I would hate to give up my favourites, I also get really bored reading the same things too many times and 20 books really isn't very much. So I guess I'll pick only reading new ones.

Be a librarian or bookseller?
Probably a librarian, but the jobs seem pretty similar to me.

Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?
I don't really have one favourite genre, so I'm not sure. I guess I'd pick everything but my favourite...although so many books are classified as multiple genres, I could probably sneak some of my favourites in anyway.

message 5: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (bebecburt) | 546 comments These will be hard questions to answer... lol

Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?
Uhm... I would have to say standalones. Typically I read more books in series, but I rarely finish them, so I think I would like standalones more if that was all I could read.

Read only female or male authors?
Female authors. Most of the books I read already are by female authors.

Shop only at bookshops or online?
Bookshops! Nothing beats wandering a bookstore trying to find your next favorite read.

All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
I would say tv shows. Some shows are like tv series events so not really one that would have multiple seasons. There is just always so much that is missed when adapting to a movie since there is so much more to the book.

Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
Another toughie... I would say 5 pages per day. I currently read multiple books a week and I feel like there is probably a lot I miss and I do forget what I read pretty quickly. With 5 pages a day, I would really be able to savor whatever it is I'm reading.

Be a professional reviewer or author?
I would be a professional reviewer. I would love to read what others spend so much time on over toiling away on my own book.

Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
Definitely always read new ones. As much as I love re-reading books, I think you can read them TOO much and love them a little less. (it's rare, but it happens)

Be a librarian or bookseller?
I would be a librarian. They both involve recommending books and sharing a love of books, but librarians are (in my opinion) more involved in their community. They have a larger reach since not everyone has money to buy books.

Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?
Hmm.... I would probably only read my favorite genre. The issue with that is I have two favorite genres. lol So which one would I choose? Contemporary or fantasy.... Probably fantasy!

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) A few minutes past the official end of the read-a-thon but I wanted to spend every last minute I had left reading! Now I can play games :-)

Would You Rather?

- Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?

Hard one because I do love me some trilogies BUT they do get a little tedious once in a while and I want to read something and just be done with it, not hang out with the same characters in the same basic place doing the same general things for days or weeks of reading on end. So if I HAD to make a choice, it would probably be for standalone books, but either way, I'd be happy I think!

- Read only female or male authors?

Oh, again hard choice but all my favorite authors do seem to be women so I will go with that.

- Shop only at bookshops or online?

I wish I could afford to shop in bookshops but I have to get cheap e-books online or through the library (also done online) so unless I suddenly get a LOT better off financially, I have to say online.

- All book became movies or all books became tv shows?

Movies because they have a higher budget and I only have to fear a horrible adaptation for the little bit of time before it arrives in theaters, not for years waiting for a TV show to jump the shark.

- Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

I would love to read 5 books a week, and sometimes (more often than my family might like) I actually do!

- Be a professional reviewer or author?

I am a much better critic than I am an author and I couldn't stand the negative reviews of my own work so reviewer it is.

- Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

I am not much of a re-reader so new books all the time please!

- Be a librarian or bookseller?

A bookseller. I love holding new books in my hands. Also as a librarian, I would have a fit on people who didn't return library books in good condition or even remotely on time so for that, I would probably get fired in a week. Not a good job for me!

- Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?

I like to read a broad variety of genres and my "favorite" changes over time so I think I would read everything except my favorite genre because I know I would still find plenty of stuff to read and love anyway.

message 7: by Erica (new)

Erica | 555 comments - Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?

Standalones please!

- Read only female or male authors?

Female

- Shop only at bookshops or online?

If I could only choose one, I'd say online. I mostly read e-books.

- All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
Movies

- Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
5 books per week

- Be a professional reviewer or author?

Author. One day...

- Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?

Always new ones. I rarely reread and there are just too many good books out there!

- Be a librarian or bookseller?

Librarian. I've been a bookseller already.

- Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favourite?

Every genre besides my favourite because I need variety. I'd get sick of my favourite genre anyway (I don't know if I actually have a favourite genre actually).

Sophie (sawphie) | 2826 comments Would You Rather?

- Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?
Standalone definitely, the quality between the books of a trilogy is almost always inequal.

- Read only female or male authors?
I don't want to make that choice, but according to my shelves, I read twice as many books my male authors than female authors, so I guess male.

- Shop only at bookshops or online?
Online, since I mostly read ebooks.

- All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
Definitely tv shows, because movies are too short! For shorter books they make mini-series in 4 or 6 episodes that are the perfect format (like for And Then There Were None).

- Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
5 books per week!

- Be a professional reviewer or author?
I don't think I would be creative enough to be an author, so I'll say reviewer.

- Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
Read new ones. I don't re-read a lot and it would be so frustrating to miss out on new books!

- Be a librarian or bookseller?
Librarian because I hate (and I suck at) selling things.

- Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?
I guess my favorite genre would be fantasy, but I think I would be bored with it after a while. So I'll say read every genre except fantasy, because sci-fi is a good substitute.

Jody (jodybell) | 3477 comments Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?
Definitely stand-alone novels. I have commitment issues.

Read only female or male authors?
Female, because Harry Potter!

Shop only at bookshops or online?
This is hard, because I like the experience of shopping at a bookstore, but I like the price of shopping online (Switzerland is ridiculously expensive for pretty much everything). I guess I would have to choose online, because then I can buy more.

All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
Movies - again, because I have commitment issues.

Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
5 books per week, definitely. I could knock over that 1001 list in no time.

Be a professional reviewer or author?
Assuming I had the talent, and author. I love the idea of creating something that people love.

Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
Definitely new books. I'm not a huge re-reader.

Be a librarian or bookseller?
Librarian - no pressure to make money that way.

Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favourite?
This is the hardest one, I think! I keep going to type every genre except my favourite, but then I think of all of the classics that I'd miss out on. I think I'd go for every genre except my favourite - reading only classics would definitely get a little exhausting. I need a bit of fun in my reading life!

message 10: by Francesca (new)

Francesca | 780 comments Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?
Standalones. I like trilogies sometimes but I tend to prefer standalones.

Read only female or male authors?
This is so hard! Either way I'm cutting out authors and books that I love. I'd probably have to go male just because I don't want to give up Stephen King.

Shop only at bookshops or online?
Online. I love bookshops and wish I shopped at them more but there are only a few anywhere near to where I live and most of them only stock the really popular books. Online is more convenient and is easier if one of the books I want to read is a harder to find book (which a lot of them tend to be).

All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
TV Shows. Longer and more detail can be put into them. Most books could have just a one off mini-series or something like that if they're shorter books that don't need as much time.

Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
If I was capable of doing so (and in this game I'm going to take it that I would be capable of doing so) then definitely 5 books per week. I'd get through my to-read list a lot faster.

Be a professional reviewer or author?
Author. I love writing stories!

Only read your top 20 favourite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
As much as I'd miss reading my old favourites, I'd have to go with reading new books. It'd get boring reading the same ones over and over and there are so many other great books out there that I wouldn't want to miss out on.

Be a librarian or bookseller?
Librarian. I'd love to work in a library!

Only read your favourite genre or every genre except your favourite?
This is the most difficult one. Assuming that this WYR question is completely separate to the male/female author question and wouldn't be happening at the same time or in the same universe then I would go with reading every genre except my favourite. Horror is my favourite genre and as much as I love it, I know I would find it tough to read all the time. It would probably end up affecting my mood. Plus there are loopholes with most horror books as they tend to fit into a few genres.

Would You Rather?

Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?
Definitely standalones. A lot of trilogies tend to fizzle out at some point so standalones are usually more reliable.

Read only female or male authors?
Even though my favorite author is male, I have to support my female authors :P

Shop only at bookshops or online?
In my current condition, online because I get my books for free from the library. Now, if money were not an issue then bookstores. There's just something exciting about browsing through physical shelves.

All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
I'm going to say mini-series, like the length of 11.22.63. Unless they're guaranteed to be all as good as The Walking Dead. Then they can be longer :)

Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
There's plenty of days that I only manage to read 5 pages haha. But I'd have to read more at some point so as unrealistic as it is for me, 5 books per week.

Be a professional reviewer or author?
Reviewer. I would get read books and get paid for it! ha

Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
I don't reread to definitely always new ones.

Be a librarian or bookseller?
I feel like bookseller are becoming less involved with the store and it's just a job (unless it's a small store). I think librarians are more personable and interested in the books. So librarian.

Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?
Every other genre. I have trouble even picking my favorite so that's sort of cheating since I would enjoy all of them.

message 12: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 539 comments Would You Rather?

Read only trilogies or only standalone novels?
I think that I am in the minority here but I would pick trilogies. I read way more series than I do standalone novels

Read only female or male authors?
Almost all my favorite authors are female and while I know that I would miss out on some great books by male authors I would still pick Female authors.

Shop only at bookshops or online?
On hands down a bookshop. I love going into the store and spending hours and hours looking around till I find the right book or books to take home

All book became movies or all books became tv shows?
I am going to have to say T.V. shows. The books that wouldn't make good long running shows can just be made into mini series.

Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
Oh definitely 5 books per week. I couldn't handle reading only 5 pages per day :(

Be a professional reviewer or author?
I would love to be an author!

Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven't read before?
This one is a hard one. I love re-reading my favorite books every year but I don't think I would like to be stuck with only 20 books to read for the rest of my life. I am going to have to say always read new books,

Be a librarian or bookseller?
I have always wanted to open up my own bookstore so I am going to say bookseller it is

Only read your favorite genre or every genre except your favorite?
Well snap this one is hard to answer! As much as I would miss my favorite genre. I guess I would have to say every genre but my favorite. I would pick that for more of a variety to read books in.
