If you have read this book, is it any good?

Yes, it is! I liked it very much - not because it is so brilliant but because it remainded me on when I was young. :-) It's a story full of lovely persons - read it!

I feel that I would have loved this book if I would have read it when I was younger, 10 or so. It reads a bit slow and repetitive for an adult reader. I'm a bit saddened that I didn't get a chance to enjoy a classic series at a point in my life when it could have been really enjoyable.

I work in a library and there is a young girl who is reading the series. (There is also an Ozma of Oz, Glinda of Oz and so on) She seems excited about the series and I envy her a bit. I could read them all now, but, it's not the same.

You'll know a couple chapters into it if it's magical for you.

Just read this book for the first time ever this past month. I enjoyed reading the book. I do not believe you have to be a child to enjoy it. If adults can find enjoyment in YA books, children's books should not be any different.

IF anyone has not read it once, please do so, and then make your opinions. It is better to have read it once and then hate it for whatever reason than to not have read it and missed out!

For a children's book, it was okay. It was nothing like the movie, that's for sure! If you liked the Narnia series, or even Harry Potter series(even though it is for YA), then this book you will like.

I really like it! One of my first books!

I really liked this book, because it was like the author was describing a dream land that nobody knew about besides Dorothy. The author even added weird names like instead of people there were dwarf like creatures called munchkins.

The characters always kinda creeped me out, so I read it to overcome that and tried to enjoy the story - but I didn't. Does anybody else feel that way about the tin man and others?

Read them out loud and the kids laughed like crazy. There is no political message. They are just fun.

I remember reading it for the first time when I was 9 or so. It was and still is my favorite childhood book

Reading this as an adult is extremely boring
Its like Narnia: Kid goes to fairytale land for a while and nothing unexpected or really challenging happens. Then she goes home again.

Lucythereader I disagree...
Sure, it didn't have anything really challenging or unexpected, but it's a kid's book! I guess when reading children's literature you don

Niels Bugge I agree that there may be some food for thought in the book Anna, but I don't require a huge plot-twist, just some kind agency from the characters so ...more
