This book was read in the end of the 1980s and is about a boy who spends his vacation away from home living with others, probably relatives. The boy establish a connection to a boy in the past, possibly supernatural, and almost dies as a result. The book was also made into a movie or tv-movie. The word "rose" could be in the title, if memory serves right.
