The May Page Count Challenge 2016

Question about the books read- for a medium, it says 8-12 books. Does that mead we can't do more than 12? I was exited to read a lot of graphic novels but feel that the point value wouldn't show well if I have to do serious.

Would prefer Medium if I am allowed to go over 12 (if I read that many books) but if the limit is 12 I will have to go serious..

And is it this group we need to BR within in order for points to count in both the current month's challenge and this one? Or do we have to BR with people specifically doing the challenge?

Maddison, I believe for BRs in this group they just have to be done within the group, not necessarily with only people doing the challenge

Jamie, there's a medium member doing way over 12 books this month already, and those aren't graphic novels, so I don't think 12 is the max, just the main range :)

Yeah just the main range, I think. The only reason I'll have read over 12 this month is because I've been reading shorter books.

And awesome thanks :D And do the editions we read have to be over 450 pages for 2 points, or can we just count the larger edition seeing as it's got the same amount of words in it. Also, if the larger edition is in another language, can we still count it? :p

I think people just change the editions to ones over 450 if possible for the points, regardless of language and if that's the specific one they read, since it's still the same amount of words and the same story! So if here's an edition over 450 for your book, I would just use it regardless :)

The 8-12 is a guide, if you're planning on reading more than 12 you should go serious really.

You can claim pages from books started before May, but you can only claim the number of pages read in May, not the highest page count, and buddy reads won't count.

Medium please! Also, maybe this is a bit of a dumb question, but when you say '1 reread' then by that you mean you can reread a book once in this month and not that if I would reread the VA books in May they wouldn't count because I would be rereading them?

It depends on when you last read them, and if you wrote reviews.

Well I haven't read VA since like November and I only have a review for the first one, I think

I can't find VA#1 on your shelves, but it says you read VA #2, #3, and #4 in december 2015, and january 2016 so you wouldn't be able to re-read those ones because it's too recent.

So I know for most challenges the middle grade books have to be more than 150 pages. Does that still apply to this challenge?

No, middle grade books can be any length, but you'll only get 33% of the page count listed on goodreads for them because of the reduced word count per page.

What if a book has a couple of pictures/illustrations but not very many? Is it still only 1/3 or can we add up pictures and just deduct from the total?

It's still 1/3 as we won't be able to tell how many pictures there are in it.
