Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 2786 comments There are reports of between 8000 to 9000 acres having been burned. The smoke is hanging over the mountains, and on the days that the wind is going our way, the smell of smoke is strong.

It started a week ago, and is about 40% contained. It rained yesterday and today, so hopefully that has really helped.

I went to 8th & 9th grade in the 60s in the Eastern Shore. But my parents moved around.

Wow! I will keep my fingers crossed that it's all burned out.

Kim Kaso | 511 comments We get so many fires here in California, I expect this year will be bad because El Niño has given us so much rain we have everything growing which will provide plenty of fuel in the summer and fall. Fires were so bad in Yosemite a couple of years ago, we were getting smoke from them all up the coast to the Bay.

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 2786 comments Oh Carole I am so glad you made the other thread and froze it, I think this one has morphed into another "Royal Escape from the Topic - for off topic chit chat!"

Apologies for going off topic!

Wishing you the best, Critterbee, and you out in California, Kim! So much natural beauty where we live, but always risks, We had a little fire last week in Dare County , NC, near the coast - I hope this isn't a sign of a bad fire season like last summer. It was so strange driving back and forth to our beach place through the haze and smelling the smoke in the Croatan National Forest. It's heartbreaking for those who live nearby!

Absolutely - I think you handle things very well, and luckily this is such a civilized, respectful group that most everyone seems to respond appropriately.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I've changed the group description (roughly the same except Christy had put "all discussion is welcome.") to;

A group for fans of Georgette Heyer to discuss her work. Whether you are a fan of many years or someone who is just starting out reading her novels you are more than welcome to join us!
