Right! You're heading into the flu/cold season, and we're (hallelujah!) heading out of it. Take care of yourself!

Take care of yourself!"Ah, yes, but here in NC we are heading into a week of Very High tree pollen count, with a fine yellow powder coating cars and anything else that stands still...ack, sneeze, and whatever sound eyes watering makes!
I managed to make it through the winter without getting 'flu, then everything here in Bay Area burst into glorious bloom and my allergies immediately kicked in. Never suffered from them until second year in UK, then moved to Northern California & second year here, worst yet. Every time we get close to UC Davis, my sinuses immediately swell from the high pollen count. It looks pretty, but I can barely see the pretty blossoms out of my itchy eyes.
We had a few of days of Spring here in Scotland back in March and then suddenly we have been rushed back to winter, Arctic air is being pulled down and although it is sunny and dry - it is freezing and snow has fallen on the higher ground. Pretty but time to go! The plants and flowers are totally confused - and the one benefit I guess - is no pollen hanging around to cause problems. Personally I would like a better balance!!

If only the weather would follow a nice, predictable schedule. Personally, I want 65' weather, nice and dry, except for rain on Wednesday nights. Hey! That's what we actually had last week - which means it'll snow here next week, Susan.

(Well, that and our current state legislature, but that's another kettle of fish... )

As far as computer use goes, we all come from different backgrounds. Mine is that I have been on message boards since 2000 & IMO it never works if members walk all over the moderator. If I ask people to do or not do something please do it. If you disagree with what I say start a new thread in Heyer in General & we can discuss it. If the consensus is different from what I have said that is what we will do. :)

Aye, aye, mon Capitain! Obviously, I don't speak French, but what I mean is "Ok!"

Glad you're feeling better! And I have no problem with following your rules, and with your friendly reminders if we unknowingly violate them - all very sensible, I think.
Critterbee wrote: "I am allergic to politics, too Susan!"LOL - I think his problem is actually all the oak trees in Raleigh, but could be the politics too!
Susan in Perthshire wrote: "We had a few of days of Spring here in Scotland back in March and then suddenly we have been rushed back to winter, Arctic air is being pulled down and although it is sunny and dry - it is freezing..."Oh, I know what you mean - it breaks my heart when all the beautiful camellia bushes pop with blooms from an early bout of warm weather and then the cruel frost comes along and burns the poor things. I was afraid I would lose my daffodils this year, they bloomed so early and then it got cold again, but they're tougher than I thought.

Love it - sitting here chuckling out loud! Deer are so voracious that I've decided venison is my favorite meat...
Hah! I finally gave up on tulips - I could only get a few seasons out of them, if the voles didn't eat them first. I love the naturalizing daffodils, they are tough little beauties!
Susan in NC wrote: "Hah! I finally gave up on tulips - I could only get a few seasons out of them, if the voles didn't eat them first. I love the naturalizing daffodils, they are tough little beauties!"Daffodils seem to survive anything - such cheery little beauties!

Hahahaha! & also groups don't do well if the moderator is too controlling! But I'm sure you guys will keep me in check! :)

We'll keep a strict watch on you and make sure that you don't have absolute power. We'll leave that for the politicians...
Susan in NC wrote: "I have much more faith in Carol as a benevolent dictator than most politicians...*sigh*"Oh, absolutely, Susan. Absolutely!
& the rules are up! Post here with any further comments or suggestions. If everyone is happy, I'll unsticky this thread after a couple of days! :)

We've counted as many as six (maybe more) deer in our yard at a time--in the city! I picked my tulips as soon as they opened and was glad to see that the lilies of the valley I just bought were labeled as unattractive to deer.
Lilies of the valley in quantity are poisonous, so understand why even deer would avoid them. Trying to remember which murder mystery I read in which the lily of the valley water was used to poison someone...

What city is that? I live in a rural area in Central Virginia, near enough to cities, but not too near!
I do not mind the deer eating my tulips TOO much. After all, our kind eat their kind sometimes, and I have never felt under threat of being eaten by deer myself.
I remembered it was an Anne Perry novel, one of the William Monk series, Weighted in the Balance, that used the lilies of the valley, the water they were in, I believe, although all the bits of them are poisonous. Related to foxglove, so similar impact on the heart in larger doses, while both in smaller doses have been used to treat heart conditions. Walter White also used lily of the valley to poison someone in Breaking Bad...

And I didn't watch Breaking Bad but of course heard of it - Walter was a chemistry teacher, right? Obviously comes in handy when looking for innovative murder methods!
It's funny, because when I was watching the BB episode, my brain kicked in with the "uh-oh, those are poisonous" info, and provided me with foreshadowing before the actual show did. Watching a movie or tv show with me is a mixed blessing for my family. I try and keep it to myself, but if I make the slightest sound or movement, they assume I've sussed something out & start paying more attention.

I am between Charlottesville and Shendandoah National Park, among the horses and the hills! The park is currently on fire. :(I was born in Fort Meade. My grandparents lived on the Eastern Shore, and I used to sit on the arm of my grandfather's chair watching/listening to the ball games, and even got to go to a few in Memorial Stadium and then Camden Yards. Camden Yards is the most beautiful ball field that I have ever seen.

We did a great trip through North Carolina, Virginia and Tennesee a few years ago and absolutely loved everywhere we went. We did a lot of driving through Shenandoah National Park which was utterly wonderful. I do hope it's not been a bad fire?
