The most annoying thing about audio books

Never noticed that before. Cause I'm usually trying to focus on what is being said in general. Just the character voices always throw me as they are usually so off center to what I though the character would sound like. And focusing on it in general too.
Yeah I was expecting Valerius to have an Italian accent at the very least. But Valerius sounded exactly like Zarek...maybe cause the same guy plays them.
I can't be sure of who did the reading for Changeling by Yasmine Galenorn. But she definitely did the varied voices of the characters pretty good. I was just so surprised by it all though.

Yep, I had to switch from audiobook to e-book because of it. I don't remember which book it was but there was a really big difference in volume between dialogs and narrative: if the narrative was OK then I couldn't hear dialogs at all, but if I heard dialogs OK then narratives were screaming!
Another thing I don't like is when the narrator reads the book very slowly, so you get 20 hours out of 200 pages. Or when there is no difference in voice between characters - so in dialogs I have no idea who's speaking and if it is the same person speaking or another.
Oh my gosh Irene! Someone who knows how annoying it is ^_^I'm like okay volume up...wait down...up down up more up more. Too loud, wait too quiet, woops accidently brought the volume down lower than the last time...woops.
I listening to Nora Robert's magic moment, her inn boonsboro trilogy, and her cousins o'dwyer trilogy. then I listen to the dark hunter series. an there a slight difference in how they project their words
There are not many audiobook narrators, especially of the romance genre, that rise above the rest. I agree with the volume thing.Sometimes, I am weirdly accustomed to reading along with the audio, and yes, I do read much faster than the narrator so I end up fast forwarding.
Mostly, the I save audiobooks for multi=tasking and exercises such as jogging, house chores, doing paper work that doesn't require my whole attention. This way, I don't give much thought to the speed of the read or become too annoyed by the limitation in voice creativity.
But I do have some faves:
*Rosalyn Landor [historical romance]
*Borah Coburn Highland Rake
*Phil Gigante [(though sometimes a like Masterpiece Theatre LOL, he's particularly good in PNR- Karen Marie Moning; Feehan]
Brianna Bronte (she's done like all of the Breeds books; I like her especially in Dawn's Awakening&Coyote's Mate
Kimberly Alexis does a dramatic but passable Russian accent(in a way) in Kresley Cole's Game Maker Series(3.5 to 4 stars at best In The Master)
I have listen to any Dark Hunter audios yet.
I haven't listened to that many audiobooks, but I find that I prefer male narrators over female ones, especially in those novels when we deal with alpha males. Since the male perspective is the dominant one in the book, I like to hear it from a male voice, the few times I listened to a woman trying to deepen her voice to fit a male dialogue I almost laughed :P
OK, so I've mentioned I'm not doing well with the audiobook for Invision...some because of the items you've all mentioned here, but I think I zone off too . I have listened to a good bit of Invision and don't really remember much of it! Or I get caught up in Bubba's Bad Voice. There is no pause between chapters, etc. I'm wondering if it is even worth listening to the rest of the book...Signed: Depressed in Texas
I hear ya Cindi. I have never listened to CON, since I have to have it right away at midnight, so ebooks are always my DH and CON choice. CON has had so many revelations these past few books that an ebook or physical book is better for these stories. IMO.I am listening to Born of Night, just to get through my ebook tbr faster and this voice actress is horrible :/ Her accents for the guys are terrible (*is Hawk a rasta guy?) I also can not remember anyone's names except Hawk, NyK, Kiara, and Syn...b/c she says the other names wierd or muffled. She also sounds like a teen cheerleader while she tells the back stories. Nothing sounds as harsh as I am sure it should be. It feels like they all had fluffy lives with a little rough edges. And I hate the female lead b/c of how she portrays her. I may just have to buckle down and read my ebooks after I finish this one. But I really am going to be annoyed that I will get no housework done.. lol
