Sheriff Henry Watermeir was very conflicted about the case, vacillating emotionally. What did you make of him?

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments I think Watermeir thought he was leaving the violent crimes behind in the city. He was just going to put in a few years in the country and retire to a quiet life with his wife. Now he has a serial killer on his hands. And he is worried that if she doesn't catch the killer soon, his neighbors will be turning against him.

I agree, Robin. One moment he's completely focused on solving the case, the next he's trying to cover his butt politically. He knows his staff is fairly inept for this type of case and appreciated Maggie's help for the most part. I wasn't happy with his willingness to throw her under the bus but I certainly understood his motivation.

He was definitely a complex character. Highly skilled, not wanting this kind of case in his new back yard but knowing what needed to be done while protecting his retirement plans.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments He also seemed completely unavailable toward the end of the book. He should have been on speed dial status for Maggie....

Robin (robinmy) | 1214 comments .....if she had charged her phone.
