16. Fiona Barton - The Widow
Talking to the Dead by Harry Bingham. First of four in the Fiona Griffith series and free as a Kindle eBook (at this time).
Lawrence Block, a different titleTime to revisit one of the toughest of tough guy private eyes, Matt Scudder. How about 8 Million Ways to Die?
(Don't be prejudiced against it by the awful Oliver Stone movie adaptation. With the locale switched from New York to Los Angeles, it should have been retitled "3.5 Million Ways to Die"--and that was only the first problem!
Leaving Tuscaloosa, a literary thriller by Walter Bennett. Lee Smith calls it "deeply moving, disturbing, haunting, and important." Takes place in the South, pre-Civil Rights. Two young men, one black and one white, secret childhood buddies, move separately toward their mutual destiny in a world erupting beneath their feet.

Mary wrote: "Talking to the Dead by Harry Bingham. First of four in the Fiona Griffith series and free as a Kindle eBook (at this time)."I bought it and will vote for it.
Checked the list so far, and I'm voting for Leaving Tuscaloosa. I have the book and would be glad to moderate the discussion.
Patrick wrote: "The Dance of Dimitrios
By Patrick Brigham"Sorry Patrick, one of our few 'rules' is that authors don't nominate their own books. Please feel free to promote in the Author's section. Thanks.
Shameel wrote: "Memory Man by David Baldacci (Amos Decker#1)"Check the first post please, Shameel. We've read this before.
Autumn wrote: "Pines by Blake Crouch"Sorry, Autumn, please save this one when we do authors whose last name starts with 'C'.. :0)
Nancy wrote: "I think B for Blake doesn't quite qualify. Save him for the C list!!!"Great minds.. :0)
So many great nominations! I was going to nominate Talking to the Dead, but since it's already been proposed, I'll nominate Murder in the Marais, the first in Cara Black's series set in Paris starring Aimee LeDuc.
J Russ Briley One Man Two VotesI'm always looking for new authors. This one is a new thriller about a political conspiracy to steal our votes. Based in Washington DC, it seems timely with all the mess going on in the election and I love how it opens. It reminds me of the old Clancy books but updated with more action and a touch of sex to keep things interesting. Lots of twists too. It has great reviews on Amazon.
Annette wrote: "Nevada Barr "Track of the Cat" Anna Pigeon series #1.C.J. Box "Off the Grid"."
Which one would you prefer, Annette? Just one please.
Loukas wrote: "Can't wait to get to C and get nominated hehehehe... Give me a read and let me know if you think it is worth being nominated next time around! [bookcover:Death Of A Bride: A stand-alone thriller|29..."Creepy spam
Joann wrote: "Totally new to this. Any book by Sandra brown"I don't know her, Joann. Maybe you could pick one of her suspense novels?
Miss M wrote: "Loukas wrote: "Can't wait to get to C and get nominated hehehehe... Give me a read and let me know if you think it is worth being nominated next time around! [bookcover:Death Of A Bride: A stand-al..."LOLActually, it was written on the funny side of things. And a tad on the promotional side. The book I mention is just out, I do not expect to get nominated with a week old book!
J. Russ Briley - One Man Two Votes It's now April; out of the 2+ dozen books I have read since January, this is THE BEST ADVENTURE book of the lot. If you haven't read it yet, WHY ARE YOU WAITING????
We're at 16 nominations and they seem like a nice mix. I'll try to set up the poll later today, give a chance for any other nominations. Thanks all.
The top two vote getters have been
The Widow by Fiona Barton. This selection was nominated by Jené. The other book was
The Guilty by David Baldacci. This selection was nominated by Dan.Thanks for your nominations and votes. I hope you enjoy the books. I'll set the threads up today or tomorrow.
Bill, are we supposed to read both books or pick the one that interests us the most, this is my first month in the group and I'm still trying to figure out how it all works....deb

You can choose one or both, whatever you'd like.

Hi Deb, I'm not Bill but it's pretty relaxed. You can pick one or the other or both or none at all! Personally I think The Widow looks good and our library has it on Overdrive. I love Overdrive!
You've got excellent answers, Debby, but just to add my two cents, pfennings, or whatever coinage you prefer, the group reads are there to provide options to our group members. If you wish to participate, you are most definitely welcome to. If the particular books don't interest you, there is always next months group reads.. :)

Avoid nominating these books, please. You can nominate others by these authors, just follow the 'recommendations' below when nominating books.
A word or two about nominations and voting:
1. As has been the case for as long as I can remember, if your nomination wins the poll vote, you will be the discussion leader. Do NOT nominate a book if you do not wish to be the moderator.
2. When a book gets to the poll, please please please do not vote on it if you have no intention of reading it. This February / March selections are a good example of why -- very few people who voted actually showed up for the discussions. That is extremely unfair to the people who voted for the next two books on the poll. Bottom line: If you don't want to read it, don't nominate or vote for it.
3. This is not the place for authors to promote their own work.
4. If the book is in a series, it might be wise to start with book #1 rather than somewhere mid-series.
Good luck. I'm looking forward to seeing what gets nominated.
