A.L. Sowards | 2134 comments What are your favorite time-travel books by LDS authors?

When I was younger I enjoyed the Tennis Shoes series by Chris Heimerdinger, but it's been a while since I read those.

Kathi Oram Peterson has written a few time-travel books too.

Gladly Beyond by Nichole Van Gladly Beyond by Nichole Van

An ancient curse, fractured at the birth of three brothers.
Two strangers helplessly drawn to each other.
A love story two hundred years in the making.

Claire Raythorn arrives in Florence, Italy, shattered, alone, and anxious to rebuild her life—preferably one without men. But she soon finds herself hunted and haunted— literally—when a mysterious stalker dressed like Mr. Darcy from BBC central casting appears in her photos. And only her photos. Who is this man? And what does his ghostly presence mean?

Dante D’Angelo simply wants to safeguard his brothers, despite the family curse that hounds his vision. But then Claire Raythorn walks into his life, untouched somehow by his curse. Soon, everything Dante thought he knew about himself starts to unravel, dragging Claire down with him.

Set against the lush backdrop of Florence, Italy—both past and present—Claire and Dante fight for a future together. But, first, they must uncover their shared past…

Paul (paul_gephart) | 49 comments It's not a new book, but one of my favorite time travel books (and a great one for teens) is Ben Franklin and the Chamber of Time by Chris Heimerdinger.

Past the Ages (Across the Ages, #2) by RaShelle Workman Past the Ages by RaShelle Workman

Their love was so strong it reached across the ages. Now it just might kill them.

Lucy Channing is back in her time of 1815 where she’s engaged to her childhood friend, the handsome Dashel Rothchild, 7th Earl of Westington. He’s incredibly sweet, a complete gentleman, and not the man Lucy loves.

But that’s the least of her problems.

The Egyptian God of Chaos and the irritating Moon Goddess have taken a special interest in Lucy and Will, the man she’s actually in love with (and incidentally is from the twenty-first century). One god appears to be trying to help while the other wants them dead. It seems Will and Lucy’s love is destined to end in blood or at least eternal separation.

There is a sliver of hope.

Will and Lucy must find the other half of Lucy’s time travel amulet and put the pieces together. It shouldn’t be too difficult, especially with the help of her betrothed, her lady’s maid, and the strange Duke of Vladimir.

I loved Chris Heimerdinger growing up! I really loved Ben Franklin, and it opened my eyes to the time travel genre.

I'm glad I'm not the only one - I think that's one of the more overlooked Heimerdinger books (mainly because the Tennis Shoes series overshadows it).

Rift (Rift Walkers, #1) by Elana Johnson Rift by Elana Johnson

In this dangerous game with time, someone’s bound to lose.

Seventeen-year-old Saige Phillips can’t help holding on to the hope that she’ll find Chloe, her twin who went missing five years ago. After all, Saige sees echoes of Chloe sitting in the window and skipping down the stairs. Though there’s never been any sound associated with Saige’s “hallucinations,” she’s freaked out by the breathing she hears in her bedroom.

The breathing is definitely real, and it’s definitely not coming from Saige. It’s echoing through a time rift that originates in Saige’s bedroom. Then a grayed-out guy shows up, saying his name is Price and he’s from the future. He has the same blue film clinging to him that Saige has seen on Chloe, and she seizes onto the idea that her twin went through the rift.

As Saige searches for answers in her time, she’s met with secret after secret, all coming back to one source: her physicist mother.

Price lives in the year 2073 with his Time Keeper father and a whole slew of global initiatives that regulate time travel. He knows time shouldn’t be played with. What he doesn’t know is why the rift opened now, or how he can stop it.

The deeper Price digs, the harder the truth is to swallow. His father willfully violating the global time travel initiative is one thing. Stealing the rift site from Saige’s mother is quite another. And kidnapping—or worse—to cover everything up takes things too far.

When the rift begins to show signs of overuse and instability, Price is desperate to close it before it explodes while Saige will do anything to keep it open long enough to find Chloe.

Cascade knows this all too well, having lived in dozens of realities over the years. And the one she lives in now, she doesn’t want. Because it still harbors secrets about her father, who her sister Saige is determined to find.

Find him they do, but no one—not Price, not Saige, not Cascade—is prepared for what they’ll find on the other side of the rift…
