I will have all my best-selling books there on sale for $10 each just in time for Mother's Day, so you can get one for each of the women in your life who love suspense!

There will also be several giveaways, including my famous Book Lover's Basket filled with books, treats, and everything a book lover needs. Don't miss this event!

Melanie Bateman (melabateman) | 22 comments My blog tour is starting tomorrow (http://blog.cedarfort.com/blog-tour-t...). Does anyone have any tips for me? I know it's better to not engage, but I don't think I'll be able to stay away from reading the reviews :0

message 11: by Laura (new)

Laura Walker | 64 comments Enjoy it! Sit back and soak it all in. I'm sure they'll love your story but if not, that's their loss. One of the most disparaging reviews I received on my blog tour came on my wedding anniversary. Without even knowing about it, my husband wrote a beautiful note expressing his love for me. That was the best gift he could have given me. So if you get a negative review, just remember that your family loves you and has your back. Good luck!

That is so sweet! Thanks, Laura! I will try not to stress about it, because you're right! This is an amazing thing and one bad review shouldn't take that away ;)

message 14: by Julie (new)

Julie | 58 comments Melanie, here's my bit of advice:

As a book reviewer, I always like it when the author comments on my review and at least says thank you. I spend a lot of time on my book reviews, and I feel appreciated that way. I know some say not to engage, but I think engaging in a positive way is acceptable. Go with your gut on that.

As an author myself, I always read the reviews and highlight the ones I liked the best and post a sentence or two from it on my Facebook page and blog. It drives traffic to that book review (which the reviewer will love) and it lets others know what people are saying about your book.

As a person with feelings, the publishing business can be harsh. I keep a Happiness File where I copy/paste good reviews, good comments, and fan mail into a file on my computer. When I get a bad review or am feeling down about my writing, I go through and just see all the wonderful things about my books and my writing in my Happiness File. It really works to lift my spirits!

Good luck with your blog tour! I'm excited for you!

message 15: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Bateman (melabateman) | 22 comments Julie, thank you for taking the time to give me advice! It's nice to see a reviewer's point of view :) I had planned to send thank you notes to each of them, since it does take a lot of effort to read a book and write about it. I love your idea for a happiness file! I think I might steal. Gosh, do I need it sometimes.

Thanks again, Julie!

Paul (paul_gephart) | 69 comments I know this isn't LDS Fiction (but there may be creative ways to use Green Jell-O in its pages!)

My niece has co-authored a cookbook that will soon be released (August 9th, I believe), and there is an event for those in the Provo, Utah, area. From the Facebook invite:

Saturday, August 13 at 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
Rock Canyon Park E 2620 N, Provo, UT 84604
Can college students cook? YES! Come celebrate and eat with us! Bring a date, bring your friends, and bring something edible to share! Make something from our cookbook and get 15% off your book purchase. For more information and to order your books, visit cookingthroughcollege.com/events.

Here's the book: Cooking Through College When You Can't Stand Instant Noodles Another Day by Chelsea Jackson Cooking Through College: When You Can't Stand Instant Noodles Another Day by Chelsea Jackson and A.N. Gephart.

Sara | 4 comments Got this book at Deseret Book on Tues. and look forward to reading it! Her book about Longfellow was so good!

message 24: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Sowards | 2481 comments I really liked Josi's cozy mysteries. I haven't tried her romances yet, but I do like Walter Scott. Let us know how you like it, Sara. Maybe I'll use it for my blue book on the summer reading challenge.

I read this one for the blog tour and I loved it! Her Longfellow book was amazing too! You should really read all of her romances in the Proper Romance line!

Favorites are so hard for me! I like them all for different reasons. I love the way the main character grows in A Heart Revealed. The main character in Lord Fenton's Folly is so fun. And I really loved the story in The Lady of the Lakes. If I had to pick, I'd probably start with Forever and Forever. Everything about that one was amazing!

message 28: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Sowards | 2481 comments Thanks, Cathy! I'm not in the mood for straight romance very often (I think Josi writes faster than I read that genre, haha), but I'll make sure I fit one in this year. It's good to know what you like best about each one!

S (escapel) | 4 comments Only Utah? :(

message 32: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Sowards | 2481 comments All Seagull locations will have sales and gifts for the first 100 shoppers, but, yeah, I guess just the Utah locations have authors this time. (Although I only have the list of authors that publish with Covenant. There might be authors from other publishers at some locations too.)

Deseret Book typically has signings General Conference weekend. Maybe they'll have something in their out-of-Utah stores?

message 33: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cathyj) | 63 comments Carla Kelly posted on Facebook that she'll be at Seagull Book in Idaho Falls, so there are probably authors at some of the locations outside of Utah.

message 34: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Sowards | 2481 comments Thanks, Cathy!

Carla Kelly is absolutely delightful in person. I sat with her during a book signing once and we had fun chatting about history.

Maybe if you live near a Seagull Book, give them a call and they'll know for sure if there's a signing?
