Ashley Marie currently reading Zealot The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth by Reza Aslan

it's very easy to read, if a bit inconsistent, but I'm enjoying it.

I had mixed feelings about that one. I think maybe I set my hopes too high because there was so much hype when it first came out. :P So, I liked it, but I wasn't crazy about it. The format is interesting, but it gave me a bit of a headache. And on top of that, I found the pacing kind of weird and didn't find either of the main characters very interesting. The last 200-ish pages are really exciting, though!

I listened to this one on audio. I was not as in love with it as some others but it was a decent read.

It was a pretty great book, VERY intense and suspenseful. Are you reading the ebook or paperback? I highly recommend the paperback or hardback if you can get your hands on it, really enhances the experience because of the unique way this book is structured/written :) ENJOY!

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments I'm reading Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys and it is heartbreaking and breathtaking. Absolutely beautifully written. Completely different than Out of the Easy, which was also an amazing book. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

Finished:

Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1) by Danielle Paige

It was okay, over all. I liked the dark version of Oz, and towards the end it got more exciting. I just wasn't a big fan of the writing, and didn't really connect with any of the characters. Plus I felt like it relied on too many tropes. It did have kind of a cliffhanger ending though, so I'm debating over whether or not I should give the second book a try.

Next I am reading our group read:

Slayers (Slayers, #1) by C.J. Hill

Yay!

Oh and I'm still re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling .

Finished...
Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman

I enjoyed it, but didn't love it as much as the reviews I've seen. Its interesting enough for me to want to continue on to the series. Kady irritated me in the beginning tho!

Also read...
Lumberjanes #1 by Noelle Stevenson Lumberjanes, Vol. 2 Friendship to the Max by Noelle Stevenson
It's a cute story for young readers. It's actually really fun.

I felt the same way about Illuminae. The only character I connected with was the computer!

Omg same here, Heidi. AIDAN was by far my favorite character and it wasn't even a person. :D

Bluemoon, I love Lumberjanes! My younger siblings introduced me to those books and they are so cute and hilarious. :)

message 420: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments I finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and was completely blown away. It was fast-paced, had a tight plot and was deeper than I thought it would be. I loved each of the "main" characters and especially loved what Cline did with Aech.

After that, I moved onto All Fall Down (Embassy Row, #1) by Ally Carter and See How They Run (Embassy Row, #2) by Ally Carter . I LOVED Carter's Heist Society novels. They were fun, not too deep and carried enough action to move the story forward. This series, though, just didn't do it for me. There seemed to be a LOT of just walking around and talking, not to mention the fact that no one in the embassy can close the door behind them while they're having meetings, leaving our MC able to eavesdrop. I read the phrase "the door was open a crack" so many times I wanted to hurl the book across the room. We are in an embassy people!

Finally, I read Slayers (Slayers, #1) by C.J. Hill
After getting past brunet, gage and canvass, I was left with a ridiculous backstory of how slayers were created. Throw in an honest-to-goodness love triangle and the mention of hot, muscular men, and you've got yourself a doozy--or you know, a typical YA read. All that being said, it was still an entertaining read, and the action picked up a lot at the end.

Elora so happy you loved RPO. I skipped All Fall Down after being warned away by some of my GR friends reviews - sad because I love Heist Society too.

gg was good but not great.
embassy row,eehhh.. might read book 2 and 3 but am in no hurry.

message 426: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments Thanks! I'll give it a try. I loved Heist Society, but "ehh" is the perfect way to describe Embassy Row.
I enjoy a nice easy read from time to time, but I'm really picky :/

being picky is good, thats means you appriciate great stories and prioritize them. I dnf-books all the time, I dont have time for bad books. Also its fun to reread sometimes.

I also read the first GG book and thought it was decent - it was definitely more middle grade due to their ages than Heist Society but a nice light read all in all. p.s. I am also super picky Elora

safe to say I'm on a historical fiction kick, although Rifka is a quick read -- if I had started before 9pm I would've finished it in one sitting yesterday.

Dixie Minor | 276 comments I just finished Found Found (The Missing, #1) by Margaret Peterson Haddix , which was a good sci-fi adventure for younger -maybe middle schoolish?-readers. Now I am in the middle of Me Before You Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes . I couldn't imagine what the hype was all about until I started this book. So good! I think her writing is so good; it really brings each scene alive! I'm halfway through and know what I'll be doing later today! :)

I was finally able to read anf finish...

Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3) by Marissa Meyer

I don't know, I guess I'm one of the few who just doesnt love this series. I mean its good, but not amazing like everyone says it is.

Anyways, since I'm not reading this month's hidden gem, decided to start on...
The School for Good and Evil (The School for Good and Evil, #1) by Soman Chainani

Audio is actually quite nice. Enjoying it, but I think it's a little bit too long.

@Elora - I'm so happy you're reading The Monstrumologist! Haha yeah, it is very scary indeed. I recommend not reading it before bed or while you're eating (two mistakes I made when I was reading it, lol). ;) I agree with Heidi––it's also one of my favorite series, and the second book is also my favorite of them I think. I need to re-read them!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Finished The Mirror King (The Orphan Queen, #2) by Jodi Meadows YOWZA, only took me a week! (That's a long time for me!) This series is only a duology, so I think she actually squeezed 2 books into this last book. It was over 500 pages, and a very dense read. But, I did like it! Lots was happening! I wished I'd liked this series as much as "Incarnate", but it was still a fun fantasy for me!

Also finished The Fall of Five (Lorien Legacies, #4) by Pittacus Lore which I really liked, I think my fave of the series yet! I did see the twist coming, though. I'm hoping to finally finish up this series soon!

Next I'm reading The Dark Days Club (Lady Helen, #1) by Alison Goodman and To All the Boys I've Loved Before (To All the Boys I've Loved Before, #1) by Jenny Han
