Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished Rebellion (Ixeos Trilogy, #2) by Jennings Wright , and it did have a good ending. The last 5% was really good. The first 95%-meh. I do want to finish the trilogy, because I want to see what happens, but I might wait a little bit.

Next ebook is Unbeautiful (Unbeautiful, #1) by Jessica Sorensen which is a PIFM book

Me too! I think I told you last year (after I'd read Dream of Thieves) that you NEED to read this series David!! I really think you will LOVE it, especially after the second book.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments Finished The City of Ember (Book of Ember, #1) by Jeanne DuPrau and loved it! No wonder it was so popular :) I think I may skip the sequels though as their ratings get progressively worse. Has anyone read any of the sequels?

I haven't read them but my sister, who is not on the site but is an avid and open reader, loved book 1, thought book 2 was okay and couldn't finish book 3. So her opinion seems to go with the ratings, and she doesn't have the ratings to go by.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 836 comments After that AWESOME Rick Riordan sale on Kindle, I am now loaded up on all the Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, and Kane Chronicles books that I still had to read, five in total. I'm starting with: The Serpent's Shadow (Kane Chronicles, #3) by Rick Riordan . Love Sadie and Carter, they are so hilarious :) :) :)

YAY! I ADORED The Kane Chronicles :) I think its actually my fave Rick Riordan series so far.

*EDIT*--but there are still plenty I haven't read yet!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Over the last few days I have finished my reread of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6) by J.K. Rowling (LOVED--I also watched the movie again!), The Martian by Andy Weir (also LOVED--and watched the movie, loved it too!)

I finished Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke on audio and it was just okay for me. I actually LOVED Poppy's voice the best, and even though she was super mean, she was the most honest of the three. The end of the mystery was a bit of a let down. The ending kind of disappointed me.

Also finished Dance of Shadows (Dance of Shadows, #1) by Yelena Black which was also just an okay read.

Almost finished with Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes which I have kind of gotten into. Its a quick read. I'm readying myself for the inevitable tears everyone says I will cry at the end!

I'm going to be starting Unbeautiful (Unbeautiful, #1) by Jessica Sorensen in ebook, Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke (Prisoner of Night and Fog, #2) by Anne Blankman and Lily Love by Maggi Myers in audio soon. Maggi Myers is one of the authors I met at the North Iowa Book Bash and this book looks good. It was on KU, which means I also get the audio for free to listen to, narrated by Kate Rudd! So I'm excited :)

Nice!! Yeah I saw that all his books were like $1.99 today, that's awesome. :D I never got around to reading the third Kane Chronicles book, but at this point I've totally forgotten what happened in books 1 and 2. I should probably re-read/finish that series at some point!

I enjoyed the first book of The City of Ember, but never wanted to continue with the series. I've read the reviews as well and they weren't too encouraging.

message 368: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments I just read The City of Ember and was going to borrow the next book. Now I may have to rethink it.

I liked Percy Jackson better than the Kane Chronicles, though I did enjoy both. I heard that the audio for the Kane Chronicles is really good. They add a lot of the sibling relationship into their tones. I may have to try it.

Currently working on The Hollow Boy. I'm enjoying it but I still think the first one was better. Maybe I'll change my mind by the end.

That's so cool Ashley! Yeah, so far I am liking the first one better, too, although I'm enjoying this one! I think it was learning more about Hitler and this strange relationship he had with the girl and her family that intrigued me so much in the first book. Now, its more running from the evil Nazis in this one. Hoping it gets a bit better!

message 372: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Right. I really enjoyed the romantic relationship more in this book, I think.

message 373: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Over the last few days I finished reading Me Before You (Me Before You, #1) by Jojo Moyes --which I did like and made me cry-- Unbeautiful (Unbeautiful, #1) by Jessica Sorensen --really liked this one-- The Crown & the Arrow (The Wrath and the Dawn, #0.5) by Renee Ahdieh The Mirror & the Maze (The Wrath and the Dawn, #1.5) by Renee Ahdieh --both insightful short stories from Khalid's POV.

I started reading The Devil in the White City Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America by Erik Larson , which I'm really excited about reading. I've wanted to read this one for a long while. And after reading Timebound (The Chronos Files, #1) by Rysa Walker a few years ago, I've been wanting to read it even more!

Also going to be starting The Rose & the Dagger (The Wrath & the Dawn, #2) by Renee Ahdieh and The Winner's Kiss (The Winner's Trilogy, #3) by Marie Rutkoski soon.

JENNY: How was The Wrath & the Dawn (The Wrath & the Dawn, #1) by Renee Ahdieh ? Worth the hype? Worth buying the duology?

message 375: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I really liked it! I don't think its the best thing ever...I read it before all the hype and I liked it! Interesting fantasy re-telling. I got both copies from the library.

I had totally forgotten what had happened too, but it hasn't affected my reading experience too much, there's plenty of recapping :) Overall, it's as fun as the previous two!

Private Life by Jane Smiley for Book Club and started Dimestore A Writer's Life by Lee Smith . Finished Day Shift (Midnight, Texas, #2) by Charlaine Harris and loved it as much as I thought I would! Couldn't put it down! Next will be Found (The Missing, #1) by Margaret Peterson Haddix

It was ok David. I had more fun at the informal get together the night before though. I am not much for formal gatherings or crowds :)

message 384: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I haven't had loads of time for reading the last few days, but I did finish Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke (Prisoner of Night and Fog, #2) by Anne Blankman and I really liked it, especially the ending!

Also finished The Winner's Kiss (The Winner's Trilogy, #3) by Marie Rutkoski today at the pool. I ended up loving it, but it was a strange final read for me. I loved the beginning, but the middle really dragged for me. The last third of the book was amazing though, so it made up for it! LOVED the ending :)

I think my next physical book will be Horde (Razorland, #3) by Ann Aguirre

message 385: by Becky (new)

Becky (bek11) | 451 comments Which school in Pittsburgh, David? I graduated from McKeesport and have gone to one of my high school reunions. If that's too personal, just ignore my question.

I finished The Hollow Boy. It was a slow start but I thought that the last third was great. Probably 4 stars for me. Now that school is just about out, I'm hoping to get more reading in.

OMG I am cheering on the Pens like crazy. I grew up playing hockey (it's my favorite sport) and my family has had season tickets for a while. It was hard to lose my seat when I left PIttsburgh LOL! But yes, I am loving the turnaround they made in the second half of the season, and will be overjoyed if they manage to win the last game and hoist the cup! The last time they won was a month before I left Pittsburgh for Sydney, the same year the Steelers won the Super Bowl.

message 392: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Today I read Promises of London A Short Story by Hugh Howey which I just didn't quite get, but was very well written.

Also finished The Rose & the Dagger (The Wrath & the Dawn, #2) by Renee Ahdieh which I ADORED! Loved, loved, loved this book, and really didn't want to leave this world! This one was twice as good as the first book for me!

Next I'm reading Squire (Protector of the Small, #3) by Tamora Pierce and Spectrum by Kay Kadinger

Oh geez, I could never not watch! But I am equally anxious, literally biting my nails off and feeling my heart pound in my chest when the game is close LOL I haven't been in the new arena, as it opened after I'd left Pittsburgh :( But I spent A LOT of time in Mellon Arena!

message 396: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished Horde (Razorland, #3) by Ann Aguirre It was an amazing ending to an amazing series. The author really did her research on ground battles and guerilla tactics! Loved the ending. I def recommend the Razorland trilogy, if you love dystopian and zombies, and also don't mind gore.

message 400: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished Spectrum by Kay Kadinger which is an adult contemporary novella about a girl who sees people's emotion in colors. It was a really cool concept, but I feel like the story did nothing with that. I did enjoy the story itself, though.

Reading Squire (Protector of the Small, #3) by Tamora Pierce right now and loving it! I missed Keladry!
