Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished reading The Rule of Mirrors (The Vault of Dreamers, #2) by Caragh M. O'Brien and I really liked it! The ending was freaky!! Can't wait for the next book!

Still reading The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi Rebel of the Sands (Rebel of the Sands, #1) by Alwyn Hamilton

Once I get done with one of those at least, I'm going to read Rebellion (Ixeos Trilogy, #2) by Jennings Wright

Also going to start my reread of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6) by J.K. Rowling soon!

Just finished...
Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier

The third and final book in the Precious Stone Trilogy. These books actually had potential with its synopsis. I enjoyed the first book, but the second and third was a disappointment.

That's a bummer, Bluemoon––it's always so disappointing when a series starts off good and then goes downhill. :(

Well, yesterday I finished:

The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo, #1) by Rick Riordan

It was such a fun read, and personally I think it's better than the past couple Rick Riordan books. I'll definitely be continuing with this series! (Of course now I have to wait for the next book ... boooo.)

And now I have (just barely) started:

UnDivided (Unwind, #4) by Neal Shusterman

Great news, Brigid! I still haven't gotten back to Magnus Chase, unfortunately. And EEEEEEEEEEEEEP I hope you love Undivided!

@Ashley - I liked Magnus Chase more than I thought I would, but it's not my favorite of his books. I thought The Hidden Oracle was much stronger over all––better characters, plot, humor, etc. And of course I am always happy to be reunited with all the PJO/HoO characters. :D

@Heidi - Yes, I'll definitely let you know my thoughts when I finish it!

Ashley Marie I just finished Atonement -- I think if I'd been reading my paperback at home I would've bawled. As it was, I teared up at my desk. Heidi, if you haven't listened to this one, I highly recommend Josephine Bailey's narration!

Aggh yes, that book is pretty soul-crushing. I remember really liking it, but it's been a long time since I read it. I should probably read it again ... I've also never seen the movie, which I've heard is good.

So I finished UnDivided and HOLY COWWW it was amazing. I'm just ... speechless. Neal Shusterman sure knows how to mess with my emotions. Uggh.

Now I am going to start:

Wildwood (Wildwood Chronicles, #1) by Colin Meloy

message 262: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I watched the movie years ago -- probably 2007ish when I first got it -- but I remember not being able to follow it very well, and I promised myself I wouldn't watch it again until I'd read the book, and now I finally have. SO excited to watch it again. Mainly bc that cast is amazing.

I was not a fan of the movie but then again I really don't like Keira K.

Ashley Marie Lol no worries, we've all got actors we don't like!

For example, I'm only just now coming around to Matthew McConaughey... or Matthew McCoughFace as I like to call him xD

Ha! I like Matthew but I could see why someone else wouldn't because he has a certain style. He was really good on SNL recently - which surprised me.

I thought the movie was amazing. (I haven't read the book, though, so I don't know how that might have affected what I thought.) it was so SAD! :(

Luckily she is one of the only actors that I am not a fan of - I like most of them :) Whenever I see Keira in a part I always think that Natalie Portman would have been a better choice. hahaha

Funnily enough, Keira played the decoy version of Natalie Portman's character in Star Wars Episode 1.

Yeah. They look somewhat similar - that is why I think of Natalie because she is a wonderful actress IMO.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Today I finished my audio of A World Without Princes (The School for Good and Evil, #2) by Soman Chainani and I really loved it!

Also read Cruel Crown (Red Queen, #0.1-#0.2) by Victoria Aveyard today. It was just what I needed to get myself back in this world! Pretty good stories, too. They are both great background info that is helping me a lot in the next book!

Tonight I started Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2) by Victoria Aveyard for a buddy read, and I'm LOVING it so far!

Also still reading Rebellion (Ixeos Trilogy, #2) by Jennings Wright and my reread of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6) by J.K. Rowling

When I finish at least one of these books, I'm going to FINALLY finish The Martian by Andy Weir ! Darryl's been waiting to watch the movie with me far too long, and I want to read the book first! I'm horrible making him wait :P

message 275: by [deleted user] (new)

I finished Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2) by Victoria Aveyard and The Masked City (The Invisible Library, #2) by Genevieve Cogman great reads.

starting The Dark Days Club (Lady Helen, #1) by Alison Goodman now.

✨ jami ✨ (jamieson_) | 2 comments I've just finished United We Spy (Gallagher Girls, #6) by Ally Carter which was the last Gallagher Girls book and was really good

I'm still reading All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven which I really don't like much, as well as Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) by Leigh Bardugo A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin and Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad which is mostly just collections of critical essays about the novella which I need to read for my Literature class

You have a lot of books going with Game of Thrones! That book alone was pretty lengthy for me. I only read the first one though since everyone seems to have a love/hate relationship with that series due to all the deaths.

I liked the Martian but everyone else seems to simply love it. Not sure why I didn't feel that same intense connection with it. I think it was due to the fact that I am character driven and felt like we only got to know the characters on the surface, It did have a lot of funny moments and was worth the read - just not what I was expecting.

I have that on audio, but still haven't had a chance to read/listen. Everyone I know raves about it. Are you having trouble getting through it or just don't have time?

As for me, my reading list is not exciting. I didn't get a chance to start The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater yet because I had to adult :p. My 3-year-old is having some amazingly epic meltdowns since she decided to drop her nap. A friend recommended No More Meltdowns Positive Strategies for Dealing with and Preventing Out-Of-Control Behavior by Jed Baker so that's what I've been reading. I'm hoping it helps, because I'm at the end of my rope :p.

Oh! But off topic, the girls (aka my husband, since the girls are 3 and 1) got me a Kindle Paperwhite for Mother's Day. I'm in love. Soooo much has changed since I last bought a Kindle 6 months ago. The screen is amazing and I LOVE that I can create folders of book collections so I don't have a thousand titles to sift through when looking for something. This is seriously fantastic :).

I am a print fan too, but I'm slowly moving to e-print only. I have no space! I swear half my garage is boxes of books. I'm too attached to get rid of them, but they aren't doing much good packed away. I need a library. You know, like the one in Beauty and the Beast :D.

Same thing again with Atonement - he saw it sitting on the mantle and was like "....is this ours?" Yes. "Why don't we watch it?" I put it out so I'd remember to watch wHEN I FINISH THE BOOK.

Still haven't gotten to it yet bc of library movies -- we watched Straight Outta Compton last night, then I've got Creed and Ex Machina (and possibly Ant-Man) lined up next. And we need to have a Hunger Games marathon soon too xD

I don't have a problem with you disliking Keira on a personal level, but it's gonna be real awkward when she and I are married and I kind of have to defend her.
Especially over Natalie Portman. She and I kind of had a thing back when Star Wars I came out.
