Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) I've been wanting to read the Age of Legends series, Laura! Are you enjoying it?

Ashley Marie So wait, you're saying all the same characters will be back for the Apollo book??

message 105: by Dixie (new)

Dixie Minor | 276 comments I am rereading some of the Betsy-Tacy books; I still love them even though they were written such a long time ago. :) Betsy Was a Junior / Betsy and Joe Betsy Was a Junior / Betsy and Joe (Betsy-Tacy #7-8) by Maud Hart Lovelace and I finally finished The Story of a New Name The Story of a New Name (The Neapolitan Novels #2) by Elena Ferrante , which was really, really good, but so long; I wanted to finish it so I could read some of the other books I was wanting to read. ;) there are two more books in that series, but I am going to have to wait to start them; they are long, too!

Was it because of me? Because I really did not care for the first book. :P I know a lot of people love the series, though!

I think a few of my trusted GR friends like you didn't care for the first book Brigid. I am guessing that is why I skipped it.

Ha! I was going to ask whether it was because of me. I made it a little ways into book one and then DNF'd it. I was not a fan at all, although the book/series had received a lot of hype. Coincidentally, I recently met the author's agent at a book conference here in Hawaii.

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) I seem to be the minority in a lot of books I like, so don't go by me. I liked the first book and I'm enjoying this one even more. I know Jenny read Red Queen and liked it, not sure if she loved it though. I'm probably the worst person to ask for recommendations! Haha :p

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) I'm not as hard of a marker as most people on here. I can't help it, I just love most of what I read. If I don't like a book then it's very obvious I'm disappointed, because I'm usually not.

message 122: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments There's nothing wrong with that, Donna :)

Ditto!! I'm the same way, Donna. I just LOVE to read, just about anything! Unless a book is horrible, or just incredibly boring, I usually will like it at least a little! Some I love better than others, though.

Yes, I LOVED Red Queen. Not my fave fantasy ever, but the ENDING to that one was so awesome! Another one of my faves last year was An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1) by Sabaa Tahir I also ADORED Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

I don't know. There's only 2 books on Goodreads for the series right now.

message 129: by Donna (BookDragonGirl) (last edited Apr 15, 2016 09:57AM) (new)

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) Jenny, yes I follow how you rate a book a lot. I find we are pretty similar in tastes. I loved An Ember in the Ashes (An Ember in the Ashes, #1) by Sabaa Tahir too! I have Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo and plan on reading it soon.
I feel bad giving recommendations because most people are disappointed in something I really liked. Haha.

Yes, but sometimes I feel I should be more picky! :p

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) I have no problem when people don't like a book I love or really like. I just feel bad if I recommended it. Ya know?

message 132: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished The Akhenaten Adventure (Children of the Lamp, #1) by P.B. Kerr pretty good book.

starting Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman now.

Donna (BookDragonGirl) (bookdragongirl) Ooh Illuminaethat's on my REALLY WANT TO READ list!!! Can't wait to see what you think!!

@Bluemoon - Yeah, that's pretty much the reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars either (can't remember if I gave it a 4 or a 4.5, lol). Otherwise I enjoyed the book, though; it just wasn't my favorite of the whole series.

@Donna - Omg I totally know what you mean. I don't really care if people dislike the books I like, but I do feel bad if I recommend a book to someone and they don't like it. :P

Ackkkk same here! I feel like I failed them lol. I rave about Unwind all the time and three of my friends read it in the last 3 months and gave it 2 stars :P

message 136: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I started listening to Shades of Grey (Shades of Grey, #1) by Jasper Fforde on audio and while I'm really enjoying it, this is one instance where I feel like picking up the print book would be better for me - Fforde's world-building is so intricate and there are so many little details that I have to really focus while listening, otherwise I miss things. I'll probably wind up with it on my bookshelf at home eventually :) I read the first Thursday Next book (paperback) a few years ago and the same thing happened, I was glad to have it in my hands so I could skip back to look at something quickly if I needed to, to catch references and so forth.

I listened to the first book in his nursery rhyme series on audio and now wonder if that was why I didn't love it? Hmmm..

I 100% get what you mean. If I recommend something someone doesn't like I have a two fold experience - on one hand I feel bad for the poor book I recommend (oh why or why didn't they love you too?) and on the other hand I fell bad for wasting someones time.

That is good Jenny :) I hope anyone else I have recommended books they did not love feels the same way! I tend to be pretty lucky so far that people at least seem to be ok with my recommendations - no one has really disliked one at least (that I know of???)

But I get what y'all mean, I also feel as if I recommend a book and the reader ends up not liking it.
