I loved this book too!

I have a whole list of creepy/scary reads on my TBR for October. Right now I'm reading It by Stephen King and I'm loving it! Also going to be rereading Jackaby (Jackaby, #1) by William Ritter

message 1203: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie For spooky October books, I've read The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

In other news, I'm just about caught up on the DC Bombshells comic series -- it reimagines DC heroines (Wonder Woman, Batwoman, Aquawoman, Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, etc) during WWII. Gorgeous art and a fantastic storyline.

Also, today I just wrapped up The Magician's Nephew, the first (chronological) book in the Chronicles of Narnia. I'm determined to read the whole series before the end of the year, and this one was incredible.

Is that a middle grade read Oda?

Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "Is that a middle grade read Oda?"

More New adult I think. It has some explicit langiage so not middle grade.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Every Heart a Doorway is classified as adult. Although the MCs are all children, its a very dark, gruesome, twisted mystery. I absolutely LOVE it! The next book is actually a prequel of 2 of the main characters Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children, #2) by Seanan McGuire and that one is classified as YA, but definitely older and darker YA. Can't wait for the 3rd book Beneath the Sugar Sky (Wayward Children, #3) by Seanan McGuire which comes out very soon!

I really want to read City of Brass, is it good Ashley?

I see there is a giveaway here for City of Brass so please let me know too if you like it and I will enter it!

message 1217: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I like it so far -- the beginning is set in Cairo and I'm a sucker for Egypt, and "Middle Eastern fantasy" isn't a descriptor I hear too often.

I'm currently reading...

This Mortal Coil (This Mortal Coil #1) by Emily Suvada

I'm not that far into the book yet, but I'm really enjoying it. I like Catarina and Cole, but the world building is not all there yet.

Erin | 8 comments Im reading The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy, #1) by S.A. Chakraborty and I do believe it is going to be a five star read for me. If you are interested definitely pick it up. I love to read about djinni and it definitely takes you to a different place. I feel like I'm in the desert while we currently have snow outside.

message 1221: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Just finished Armada by Ernest Cline , solid 4 star read! This novel definitely made a statement about war and humanity. I really loved the message to it. I also liked that the MC questioned EVERYTHING (what we all should be doing) and made up his own mind after he got all the facts. And I loved how it ended--with not everything clear cut and a little bit of gray.

Also finished The Hundredth Queen (The Hundredth Queen, #1) by Emily R. King and I ended up liking it quite a bit. Some of it was way too predictable (the romance) but I loved the message and the world building, and the characters were nicely developed. So I ended up with a 4 star rating on it, mainly because I thought the ending was good, and the author was willing to make some tough choices that really served in the interest of the story.

I'm still reading Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills , about halfway through, and oh my goodness! This book is SO CUTE!

Also going to be starting The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons

I am on the fence about trying Armada Jenny - it seems like it was kind a disappointment for some.

message 1223: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments It wasn't as good as Ready Player One, but I kind of knew that going in. I really liked the message to it. A LOT. And there's a lot of great moments, lots of laughs. The twists are also really good. I recommend it if the premise sounds like something you would like.

Ashley Marie I wasn't quite gelling with the City of Brass audio the way I thought I would, so I'll look into a physical copy later in the year. The world has so much potential, I'm looking forward to getting back to it.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished Nobody's Princess (Nobody's Princess, #1) by Esther M. Friesner 3.5 stars--hoping for more action, but still a good take on mythology and a quick read; my reread of The Magician (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #2) by Michael Scott loved it; and Did I Mention I Love You? (The DIMILY Trilogy, #1) by Estelle Maskame 4 stars and a very addicting read.

I started The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle So far I've read "A Study in Scarlet" and I LOVED it! So glad I'm finally reading these stories, I've wanted to for so long!

Also going to be starting The Little French Bistro by Nina George and The Fire Wish (The Jinni Wars, #1) by Amber Lough

I adored The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George, so I'm very excited to read her newest book!!

Caitlin Mcnamee (alanna-sama) | 51 comments I'm reading The Glittering Court (The Glittering Court, #1) by Richelle Mead , and Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia . So far, The Glittering Court is okay. The pace is kind of slow, and I usually hate that in a novel. Eliza and her Monsters is going to be interesting. I'm looking forward to finishing both.

Ashley Marie The Black Company (The Chronicles of the Black Company, #1) by Glen Cook and finishing Shadowhouse Fall (Shadowshaper, #2) by Daniel José Older
I'm in love with the Shadowshaper Cypher series, DJO is so creative.

Hi guys I'm sorry I disappeared for so long (again)!! I hope you are all doing well. :) I was in kind of a huge reading slump in 2017 but I'm gonna try to read more this year.

Recently I finished:

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

which was really intense but very good!

And now I'm finally reading:

Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo

I've heard so many good things about it so I'm excited!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I've decided to try to read some romantic books for Valentine's Day! I've added these 10 books to my TBR:

Sweethearts by Sara Zarr Alex and Eliza (Alex & Eliza #1) by Melissa de la Cruz The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo Geekerella by Ashley Poston By Your Side by Kasie West The Fetch by Laura Whitcomb Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon Kissing in Italian (Flirting in Italian, #2) by Lauren Henderson Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Anyone else reading romantic reads for February?

I started Outlander a long time ago, want to finally finish it! Thought February was as good a month as any!

message 1249: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Oh I missed you were reading Outlander. I think I expected too much with that one - didn't love it but didn't hate it either. I think adult fans of Twilight would like it (which I am not). I do recommend the audio either way as Davina Porter is one of my favorite narrators :)

message 1250: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I also finished The Knowing (The Forgetting, #2) by Sharon Cameron and I agree with Karen! 5 star read!

Also finished The Fire Wish (The Jinni Wars, #1) by Amber Lough which was a fun, quick read.

Started The Clouded Sky (Earth & Sky, #2) by Megan Crewe which I seem to be way more into than the first one. Probably because this one takes place on an alien planet, and I'm so into that right now!

Also started Before She Ignites (Fallen Isles Trilogy #1) by Jodi Meadows and I'm really liking this one so far. So very dark, great world building. The MC is majorly flawed, so I'm not too much of a fan of hers yet. But loving everything else!
