I need to give another Rick Riordan book a try. I was not in love with Percy Jackson but everyone here loves his books so I need to try a different book of his I think.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Recently finished:

The House of Hades (The Heroes of Olympus, #4) by Rick Riordan 5 stars
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover 5 stars
Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed 4 stars
The Paris Wife by Paula McLain 4 stars
Untamed (Unbeautiful, #2) by Jessica Sorensen 3.5 stars

Of course, Rick Riordan's books-=always good! This one really amped up the stakes for the last book! Colleen Hoover--I like her books quite a bit, this one was one of my favorites. A heartbreaking story about family and domestic abuse. She actually based a lot of this story on her parents relationship when she was young. Wild was way better than I thought it would be, a real page turner! The Paris Wife was very good, although very sad. I seem to keep picking sad books lately LOL! But I liked learning more about Ernest Hemingway, even if it made him look pretty despicable. Untamed was an intense quick read, but definitely needed more character development.

Right now I'm reading A Patchwork Christmas Collection by Judith McCoy Miller (some light Christmas Romances) and The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus, #5) by Rick Riordan which I'm loving!

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments Made myself finish This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1) by Victoria Schwab . I really liked it at first. Kate was a tough MC, and I was so excited reading her. Until she totally acted out of character and ended up like most YA characters. *sigh* :(

I binge read Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick last night. It was both good and disturbing at the same time, so I couldn't bring myself to put it down. It was a REALLY good read.

Ashley and Heidi, it was good in so many ways, very gritty, a great story, captures emotions and tells a difficult tale in a compelling way-I really liked it. At the end, though, I was still a little confused, but it may have been me. It was told in a confusing way on purpose, to show the MC's pain and survival mode of not facing all the details. Powerful.

Dixie Minor | 276 comments Finished Faithful Faithful by Alice Hoffman . I always love her books and this one had a YA character, at least in the beginning. Reading Dakota Dream Dakota Dream by James W. Bennett now; it's nice to have some time to read -love the day after Christmas, books, and new pajamas! :)

Jen from Quebec :0) (muppetbaby99) I asked for ALL THE SINGLE LADIES, a non-fiction, social commentary book, and instead got a drugstore paperback with the same title for Xmas from my mom, her having gotten it totally incorrect; so I am reading the most unlikely of books in my new PJ pants at the moment.

I wanted:
All the Single Ladies Unmarried Women and the Rise of an Independent Nation by Rebecca Traister

I got and am now reading:
All the Single Ladies by Dorothea Benton Frank

Yup- just a WEE bit different

Ohhh boy. It's interesting when that happens! I remember asking for Slash's autobiography for Christmas a few years ago; my cousin misunderstood and got me a CD of his where he jammed with a bunch of different artists. It was really cool and still makes me laugh :)

I'm really liking it so far. I think its meant for fans of Alice in Wonderland, if you're not a fan of that, you probably won't like this one.

Dixie Minor | 276 comments I am reading a thriller, Find Her (Detective D.D. Warren, #8) by Lisa Gardner , but when I am finished, I want to read A Monster Calls A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness before I see the movie! Everyone on this site has said such good things about the book; can't wait! :)

message 944: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I finished The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness and I ended up really liking it. A solid 4 star read. Not Patrick Ness's best work, but still a good one. I went into it cautiously because I'd heard a lot of mixed reviews. It took about 25% of the way in before I really started to GET it. Its half satire, and a very hilarious one, and half a coming of age contemporary. He spends a lot of time making fun of paranormal cliched YA, and the other part of it creating some really interesting characters dealing with some complex stuff. I really like the main characters in this. The plot and story that was going on around the characters was LOL funny! Anyways, I'm really glad I gave this a try!

I started Hamilton The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda and I'm listening to the soundtrack along with it. AMAZING!! What a clever and artistic idea this whole musical was! Because its hip-hop style, it appeals to a lot more of the public, not just ones who love theater. I love unique ideas like this, and what's more, they really seemed to have pulled it off! The music is amazing, and the story so far is as well. It getting me all patriotic :) And I'm learning a lot of backstory on the musical itself, how it was conceived and brought to life. So cool!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments I haven't updated in a while!

Okay I finished Heartless by Marissa Meyer and loved it, 5 star read. The writing was beautiful and SCRUMPTIOUS (made me so hungry!) I love how it felt like an authentic Wonderland and the author did a great job of staying true to the original, but she added so much more depth to the characters and the world. Perfect retelling IMO.

I also read and finished The Forgetting by Sharon Cameron which I really liked. Took me a while to get into it, but the last two-thirds of it I read all in one sitting. Really unique concept and story, even with other minor problems, I really enjoyed it.

Also read Gates of Thread and Stone (Gates of Thread and Stone #1) by Lori M. Lee and I ADORED this read, 4.5 stars. Completely hooked to the fantasy and the world and the characters. A dark, gritty read, but a quick one with lots of action.

So I'm starting the year off really well!

Next I'm reading The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon
