I really like the cover of that one.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Since my last update I've finished:

Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1) by Seanan McGuire 4 stars, really liked this one! Much creepier and sinister than I was expecting!

Losing Hope (Hopeless, #2) by Colleen Hoover and Finding Cinderella (Hopeless, #2.5) by Colleen Hoover Both 4.5 stars. I just love the whole series, absolutely heartbreaking but amazing!

United as One (Lorien Legacies, #7) by Pittacus Lore which was a good conclusion to the series. More deaths I was very sad about, but overall, this was a good series, I liked it!

The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith 3.5 stars. Cute, but somewhat drawn out with a bit, and I really didn't like the male MC, Owen all that much. Lucy was adorable.

Right now I'm reading The Time Traveler's Handbook 18 Experiences from the Eruption of Vesuvius to Woodstock by James Wyllie which I'm REALLY liking! Really fun nonfiction read with a bit of fiction twist LOL!

Getting ready to start Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) by Amie Kaufman !

Oh I liked Vengeance Road too! That was a fun read. :) I initially was drawn to it because of the amazing cover, and luckily the book itself was pretty good as well.

So I finished re-reading:

The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials, #1) by Philip Pullman

And now I'm moving on to our monthly group read:

Born Wicked (The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #1) by Jessica Spotswood

I get that, Heidi. My very favorite books are character driven. :)

Dixie Minor | 276 comments Still reading The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah ; it is long, but reads really fast. It is great, but I have reached the part that is breaking my heart.

I have read 1-2 books by her and they were both decent.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Hardly any reading done in the last week! Been so busy with arting and craft stuff, as well as work, as well as taking care of my parents' dogs while they were away!

Finished reading The Time Traveler's Handbook 18 Experiences from the Eruption of Vesuvius to Woodstock by James Wyllie which I really liked, and really recommend to time travel fans who want to learn some history, especially little details of daily life in history!

Also finished reading Slammed (Slammed, #1) by Colleen Hoover which I liked quite a bit. I'll be reading Point of Retreat (Slammed, #2) by Colleen Hoover in the next few days.

Still reading Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) by Amie Kaufman , although I'm close to finishing it! Its SO GOOD!!! Loving it!

I have seen Slammed a few times but haven't give it a go - glad to see you liked it Jenny

message 720: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Thanks Heidi! The added element of the slam poetry makes this series fun!

I finished both Point of Retreat (Slammed, #2) by Colleen Hoover and This Girl (Slammed, #3) by Colleen Hoover Both were good!

The three 11 yr old kids in Point of Retreat was definitely the highlight of the series for me. IMO, its worth reading just for those kids!

The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials, #2) by Philip Pullman

The Memory of Things by Gae Polisner

Ashley Marie Picking up The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis Frost Like Night (Snow Like Ashes, #3) by Sara Raasch from the library this weekend! It's gonna throw a wrench into my October reading plans but I literally don't care bc I'm so excited :D

The female of the species sounds weird!

message 724: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie currently blowing through The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis and loving it
I haven't read Speak yet but I've seen a lot of comparisons between the two, Heidi. It handles rape culture and the MC reminds me a bit of Lisbeth from Dragon Tattoo.

Also current: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline The Sight (Sight, #1) by David Clement-Davies rereads

Next up: Labyrinth Lost (Brooklyn Brujas, #1) by Zoraida Córdova Frost Like Night (Snow Like Ashes, #3) by Sara Raasch

haven't really started, but really want to get to it soon!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Finished Gemina (The Illuminae Files, #2) by Amie Kaufman and IT WAS AMAZING!!! LOVED it! What a sequel! I can't wait for the last book!

Right now reading Emerald Green by Kerstin Gier which I am finding a bit harder to get into.

For the #Frightfall Readathon by Seasons of Reading I'm reading Dearly, Departed (Gone With the Respiration, #1) by Lia Habel which I am loving!

Also going to be starting Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens for the #AYearathon Readathon--the theme this month is Mental Health.

Finished:

The Memory of Things by Gae Polisner

Which I liked––it handled the subject of 9/11 very well, which is a tricky thing to accomplish.

Next I think I'll finish up my His Dark Materials re-read with:

The Amber Spyglass (His Dark Materials, #3) by Philip Pullman

Oh, and I won a paperback copy of The Scorpion Races from my library. I now have it in digital format and paper (for the tub), so I have no excuses not to finish it :D.

Ashley Marie Ahhhh Scorpio Races is my favorite Stiefvater book!!

I had to set Labyrinth Lost aside -- too many typos and grammatical errors in the first 30ish pages and it kept jarring me out of the story. Waiting for the audio (hopefully) because I really do like the story itself.

Starting Frost Like Night probably today :)

Ugh, multiple errors make me so sad :(. But yay to another vote for Scorpio Races. I also picked up a copy of A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness . It was 50% off through the cartwheel app at Target so yay for that :D.

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments My September Wrap Up video is up!
https://youtu.be/vVswc1nFt1w

So far this month, I've finished Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens which was good, but not as good as I was hoping.

Also finished Dearly, Departed (Gone With the Respiration, #1) by Lia Habel which kind of blew me away in how much I loved it. Wasn't expecting to like it that much!

Also finished The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand which was really good, and based somewhat off of the author's own experiences. It made me cry, and one of the better books I've read on teen suicide.

Next I'm reading As Red as Blood (Lumikki Andersson, #1) by Salla Simukka which I'm super excited about!

message 740: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Finished Warm Bodies (Warm Bodies, #1) by Isaac Marion and now back to Dark Places by Gillian Flynn so I can finally finish it.

message 741: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments So I've been working on a monster edit (it "consumed my waking days") and didn't have much time for reading or social media. But it's done now, so I'm back.

I read Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo which was absolutely fantastic!

Born Wicked (The Cahill Witch Chronicles, #1) by Jessica Spotswood was just alright, but the sequels progressively got better, with the last one being pretty awesome.

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys was phenomenal. I've found a new fave author. And the title, once I found out what it meant, chills ran down my spine.

I'm currently reading My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand which is just a really fun light read. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

message 742: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 578 comments Heidi, I think you might like My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand . It's really light reading, but quite interesting and well written, and there is a bunch of humor thrown in. (There are magical creatures....can't remember if you like that or not).
