I finished
which I enjoyed, a nice quick action-packed read.Also finished
which was just okay for me. I actually liked the world building and the crazy aliens and Sci-Fi, I just never connected with Daemon and Katy as a couple. Never really felt it, for some reason *shrugs*Also read
which was kind of fun!Next I'll be reading
and
and
I feel like a goof. I finally figured out I can click on Discussions instead of Groups to have my GR page show me all my groups at once! I was clicking on each group individually! Much easier :)

I enjoyed The Diviners. Still waiting for my library to get Lair of Dreams.
Starting a buddy read of Six of Crows if anyone else wants to join please do so here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Just finished Strings
on audiobook and it was my favorite David Estes book yet! I really enjoyed it.

I agree Heidi, it's my favorite too!! Love that book :) Read it twice and listened to the audio once. :) It's one of my favorite books, and I go to it when I need a pick me up. :)
I finished reading
and by the end, I really liked it! It didn't start off the best for me....it just felt too MODERN for historical fiction, and didn't seem authentic at first. It was odd since it was Libba Bray, she usually nails that, but she did say that she took a lot of liberties with it. After I got past that, I really enjoyed the story, it was a good creepy mystery with a lot of fun magic elements!Started and almost finished
which is a nice quick read! I'm actually enjoying this one a lot more than the second in the series. Not sure what I'm reading after that...either
or rereading

Ah.....I can't wait!!!!!!
@Heidi - I still need to read Strings!! Glad to hear you enjoyed it. :D
@Jenny - Ahhh I love the Gemma Doyle books, they're so delightfully creepy. It's been like ten years since I read them, yikes. I should read them again!

I was not a huge fan of Great & Terrible Beauty unfortunately. I could not get into the fantasy parts for some reason and felt kind of disconnected from the book.
Sorry it didn't work for you, Heidi. It's pretty "out there" and I get why some people don't like that, haha.
Enjoyed "I'll Meet You There" Skylar struggles w her desire to escape her small town and the boy who lost a leg in the war who tugs at her heart. realistic and a page turner
Still have yet to read any Libba Bray, although I've got Great & Terrible Beauty on the shelf at home and Diviners on my Overdrive list.update on my reading:
Wax by Gina Damico got 5 stars, it was hilarious and a little unsettling and just all-around fun.
Sweet Unrest by Lisa Maxwell, 3 stars. Good but a little generic.
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, 3.5-4 stars. A solid true crime read, but a bit dry.
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, 4 stars. Good but I won't be reading it again. Too much sad.
Just started Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis and loving it already.
Ooh, I read In Cold Blood for a class a couple years ago and I really liked it. Very scary. o_o But yeah, parts of it were a little slow. I read The Kite Runner a long time ago and enjoyed that too; I agree though, it was like .... so devastating.

Kite Runner and The Road are two books that were phenomenal in my opinion but I will NEVER re-read either. Both too depressing/heavy for me!

ahhhh the Road was SO good.I've decided I already want a copy of Not a Drop (and probably the sequel) for my shelf, right next to the Ashfall books :) I'm devouring this and simultaneously being pissed off at my bosses because they keep interrupting me with work-related nonsense :P

Hello all my GR lovelies! I miss you all. I just wanted to stop by to maybe find someone to share in my excitement that Melina Marchetta's new novel is coming out soon!! My excitement is palpable.
Yay Brittany! Missed you. How are things? Do you even need to ask me if I am excited about a new Melina novel?? I think not! It is a looooooong time coming!

I can't read animal books after Marley & Me. I always know they will make me a mess!

I'm in the middle of a reread of

and I honestly can say that I really don't like it. :(
Glad I'm not the only one, Ashley. I'm seriously considering making it a DNF. I liked the rest of us just live here. :)

Yeah I don't plan on reading The Cursed Child either ... I've heard almost nothing but negativity about it, plus I've heard it wasn't really written by J.K. Rowling?? So I don't really see what the point is.
Anyway, right now I'm reading our group read!
Anyway, right now I'm reading our group read!
I wasn't going to read it, Brigid, but curiosity got the better of me.....I think it's going to be a DNF....
The point was it was a play that was released in London in July. JK Rowling wrote it with 2 other producers. They released it in book form so the whole world could enjoy the story of Harry's son without having to fly to London to see the play. So its in actual screenplay format.I loved it, but I'm familiar with plays and screenplays. I just envisioned the whole thing happening on stage in my head. To me, it felt very authentic. I did feel like we were back at Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic, Platform 9 3/4, etc.
The play was very well received, everyone was wowed by it. Not so much the book...and I'm guessing its the format that has people not liking it. Its above half and half if you look at the reviews. Half the people loved it, half hated it. I myself couldn't put it down, read it in a day!
Of course, I don't love it nearly as much as the 7 books...because its not the same of course. People who go into it with those expectations will be disappointed. But I do love it for what it is, a wonderful screenplay in the HP world.
JKR cowrote an original story with the two guys, one of whom, the playwright Jack Thorne, is the guy who wrote the play -- based on that story. I figure why not let us read the story she actually had a hand in writing? And for as disappointed as I was with certain aspects of the script, I would like to see the play on stage, just to see how they pull it off.
I mean, I like plays too and I studied playwriting for a couple years. It's not the script format that's a turn-off for me, it's the plot. Like, I've read synopses of it and it just doesn't sound like something I would enjoy. But I don't know, maybe I'm wrong!

I think that's what it is for me, Brigid. I didn't mind the play format. It's the plot that I'm not liking so much. For me, it feels like a pseudo-rehash of things we've already seen. However, I'm so glad that you loved it, Jenny!
Thanks Elora! I'm sorry you didn't :(I finished my reread of
, so good!!Also finished my reread of
and it was just as good the second time. I'm glad I reread it, there was a lot I had forgotten. I think its been 3 years since I read it!Also finished
and that was a quick, thrilling read!Next I'm reading
Yay, I love the Diviners books!! I feel like I should re-read the second one ... I read it pretty fast and it's really long, so I'm already kind of forgetting what happens in it, lol.
I've also been reading
the first is a historical romance that feels very Downton Abbey, written by a friend of mine
the second is for research for my WIP -- Jane Johnston Schoolcraft is generally acknowledged as the first Native American writer, and her stuff is fascinating
Ashley *Hufflepuff Kitten* wrote: "Ahhhh Sara Gruen. I still need to read Water for Elephants!"SUCH a great book!! :)
