Emma Jaye | 3693 comments This is a special celebratory, genre specific group. In joining this group you have agreed TO REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.

Genre: Non-Fiction
Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate preferences. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here – even within the same genre, we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Make sure you have an author profile set up before you join and that your book is available for sale on amazon (not pre-0rder).

Please let me know as you sign up if you have been reviewed by, or have reviewed another author in the group. It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available, but reciprocal reviews within the group are strictly prohibited.

Your group moderator will be
Mike Robbins

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Hi Robert, I'll be sorting out the group till its filled up and ready to go.

The problem is that you're not using your author account associated with that book, you have two, one with a middle initial.

This is the author account associated with your book. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
This is the book link.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

You will need to use this account so that people in the group can contact you. I'll add these details to the list.

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments Hi Bob - you do it by going to the "add book/author" tab that appears above the comment box as you type into it. So here's the book:

Simply Bob: Searching for the Essence

And here's your author page:

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

However, there is a slight glitch, because this book has been attributed to the wrong Robert Brown. This is very common; all my books have initially been attributed to the wrong Mike Robbins (who sells a lot more books than I do). This is no problem for the purposes of this review round, as long as people can contact you (and they will, because Emma will post the link to the right author. She does not make mistakes!). But you might want to send a message to the Goodreads Librarians asking for the book to be reattributed to you.

Meanwhile, a warm welcome to the group.

Thanks!

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Changed it!
And erm, yes I do make mistakes, especially when I'm setting up 8 groups at the same time. When I'm spinning this many plates, sometimes they wobble a little!

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments LOL
I wouldn't mind my books being misattributed if I got the other Mike Robbins's royalties, but that hasn't happened.

You realize this is a non-fiction group - did you actually kill off your ex-wife? If so, you are eligible for this group.

John Wood | 37 comments Mike wrote: "Hi John and welcome!

This is a collection of nonfiction humor articles about true incidents I've experienced (posing for Playgirl, appearing on The Dating Game, accused of being a spy in Havana, rescuing a hostage at James Bond Fantasy Camp, etc.), the majority of which have been sold to national magazines or newspapers. I did indeed kill "off" my ex-wife. Let me know if the above explanation disqualifies me from nonfiction, and if so, why.

Hah, you got me, Mike. Hmmm, maybe we both have something in common in the ex-wife department??? Thanks, Emma. Sorry, here's a cloth to clean up your desk.

message 21: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments I do have a very recent ex (though we were not married). I have no plans to kill her off though - if you do that in New York you get lots of boring paperwork.

We need four more, and then Emma can fix the order and declare the group open.

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Kelvin, you just need to claim your author profile.
Go to your book page, then click on your author name. You'll note it doesn't come up with the goodreads profile. Scroll down till you see 'is this you?' and click.

once you've done this, and goodreads has linked the accounts, anyone who is interested in your book, will be able to contact you directly.

Let me know when you're up ad running and I'll add your book.

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments Welcome, Francis. Nice to have you aboard.

It is taking some time to get this group off the ground; I am wondering whether to offer one of my own non-fiction books (I have written three). Still, we now have seven, so let's give it a little longer!

message 30: by Kelvin (new)

Kelvin Dorsey | 10 comments Where's all the nonfiction writers?

message 31: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments That's a good question. I suppose there are fewer of us, Kelvin.

message 32: by John (new)

John Wood | 37 comments Hi Mike, I don't know if this would help, or hurt, the situation. Or if it's even allowed. I have a second nonfiction book I could add to this list. But that would mean I would have two books among the ten, so some people may have to read me twice. Plus I would have to review...eight books myself? Let me know if this is okay, thanks.

message 33: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments That's a good offer John! It would be quite a heavy commitment for you though, and we have not done it before.

I think the main problem with that would simply be that it would be hard for Emma to sort out the running order, so it's probably not viable. But I'll leave that for Emma to comment.

message 34: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Yep, that would be very tricky to arrange, still we only have two to find now.

message 35: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments This one was always going to take a while to fill up Francis, it isn't you.

Just saw your post.
It reminded me that about fifteen years ago, Barclays sent Ken Folett's royalties to my company's account. It was in the millions!
My partner and I did give some serious thought to skipping the country to Brazil with the proceeds, but it was both our sons' sports day that weekend.....
So we had to do the decent thing and ring Barclays.

Regards
Anthony

message 37: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments Brilliant! You should have done it Anthony - I'm sure he would have accumulated enough replacement royalties very quickly.

Not sure if you realise, but you've posted on the Review Round 100i (non-fiction) group. Do you think you'd like to join it? We only need one or two more people, and Notes from a Very Small Island would be very suitable.

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments Francis wrote: "I hope I didn't jinx this non-fiction group by offering a book on Physics. I can imagine that maybe some potentially interested authors would shy away, not wanting to review such a scientific volum..."

I'm sure you're not jinxing us, Francis!
One thing I do note is that your book is shown on Amazon as costing $473.01 - is that the case? The price shown on British Amazon is surely also wrong.

Yes I looked at the site to join up - but funnily enough through nothing that had to do with a Book read group , I've already reviewed the books of Robert, John, Alison and Ronesa.
(l think this shows what a minority we non-fiction writers are on Goodreads. If we were into YA, romance, fantasy, sci fi, dystopia..... the group would have filled in five minutes!)

I could, of course review the books of the others, but I thought it might be inconvenient for Emma. (Oh, we're so English sometimes!)
Come to think of it, though, there's my other non-fiction book that I could put in - so I'll do that.

message 40: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Reviews need to be non-reciprocal, which means you could review those four again, if they other suitable books, but none of them could review you.

As yet, no one has declared another clash, so it might be possible, although I'm not promising anything.

message 41: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments Francis wrote: "Mike, the book costs $24 on Amazon.com (Kindle edition $7.39, UK price £15.48 ). The price you saw was set, not by Amazon, but by a reseller -- god only knows for what reason. Anyway, that was for ..."

OK, well the Goodreads link from the book page to Amazon leads to the first edition and I wasn't aware of another, so someone looking to buy also might not be. If you drop a note to one of the Goodreads librarians, they should be able to change it for you easily enough, I guess.

message 42: by Mike (new)

Mike Robbins (mikerobbins) | 551 comments Yes, it should do the job just as well. I'd recommend deleting the 1st edition from Goodreads though, just in case.

message 43: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Goodread won't delete a book, but you can combine editions. so all the review shown up on the same site.

Or they could review my second book - but I couldn't review the ones they've put in, and could only review the books of the other authors.

message 45: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Non-reciprocal, in the context of the group, means that you cannot review anyone that has reviewed you previously.

If you have already reviewed book A from author 1, you could also review books B, C and D from author 1 in other rounds, but that author could never review you, within the review group anyway.

message 46: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments Yes you can join up to two groups, but I don't think a poetry round would be successful, to be honest, I've been the person who sets up the rounds for over a year and I don't remember ever seeing a poetry book being submitted.
in contrast, we do get non-fiction in most 'clean' and 'general' rounds.
We even had one in an 18+ round once. It was....educational.

message 47: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3693 comments We will still be having general rounds, so it would fit there, but in return you would be expected to review any book allocated to you, which could literally be anything from a child's picture book to horror or erotica.
