MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I'm reading What Lies Beneath the Clock Tower. It's an adult "Choose your own adventure" book.

Ok, so I'm loving it BUT I died. :(

So I'm back at the beginning as a reboot. Cause I can't leave my adventure dead!

Laurel THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!!

I have to find a copy!

(Too many exclamation points, my childhood simply demands them!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Paolo (ppiazzesi) | 166 comments That does look fun! It was on the poll for our monthly fantasy read next month but it didn´t win.

I know how you feel!

When I found out it was a CYOA I had to have it.

There's a kindle version but if you prefer print I could send you one.

message 112: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments Finished Vicious. I love it! Absolutely loved it! My favorite read so far this year.

Next up I think I'm reading Unwrapped Sky. I know nothing about it, but it caught my eye because of its gorgeous cover: Unwrapped Sky (Caeli-Amur, #1) by Rjurik Davidson

That is a lovely offer, thank you! Alas, I already ordered it! ;)

I can't wait to chat with you about it!

I'm also reading it now. Or I was. Died fairly early of a drug given to me that should not be given to humans...
Will definitely give it another go though! Cause it's awesome :D

message 115: by Emily (new)

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments I'm participating in a readathon this week where the theme is catching up on series, so I figured it went well with our challenge here. (I really need to update my scoring...)

So far I've finished The Immortals series by Tamora Pierce and read (chronological) book 2 in the Vorkosigan Saga (which I LOVED). I'm getting close to the end of Changes on audio, have one of the In Death books by J.D. Robb in progress on the Kindle, and in physical book form I'm reading Prodigy, the second book in the Legend series by Marie Lu.

It's been a fun week of reading so far!

That cover is even more gorgeous. :)
Great job on the art work for the book.

I'm only in the first quarter of the book but I'm enjoying it so far. It's very unusual.

message 117: by Emily (new)

Emily I'm done with finals! Hallelujah! Anyways so I'm still reading The Madman's Daughter and The Wise Man's Fear, but now I've also started reading The Siege of Macindaw to have something light and enjoyable to get me back in the reading mood. I have not gone without reading for 3 weeks in years which is what I did for finals.

Ooooh!

That sounds awesome. I died again but I got no drugs! I have to do this one again because my results and your results are soooooooo different.

I sniped a ton of gnomes from a hot air balloon.

message 119: by Sinistmer (new)

Sinistmer | 212 comments Finished The Last Dragonslayer--it was really fun! I recommend this if you're looking for something lighter, but still want "smart" humor and story.

Currently reading A Darkling Sea. I found it at the library and picked it up. I do not usually gravitate toward sci-fi, so we'll see how that goes.

message 120: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments I had to give in to Unwrapped Sky. It has a lot of potential but a confusing (and by confusing I mean there was no explanation of what the heck was going on and why) story and unlikable characters made this one a dnf for me. But hey it was a library book.

Instead I'm reading Tumble & Fall. Another young adult end of the world story. Yeah.

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 168 comments Just finished Saga, Volume 1 and was blown away.
I just went online to hold Volume 2 at the library.
SERIOUSLY... Why isn't it common knowledge that the library has graphic novels. Everyone I tell (in person) is shocked by this (I was too).. (I'm new to librarying)

message 122: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I just finished a graphic novel too: Max Brooks' The Extinction Parade, Volume 1, that I got from NetGalley.

Eh. Decent buildup but needs more meat. The art's pretty fantastic.

I checked it out on Net Galley and was disturbed to read this ...
"PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN INTENTIONALLY INCOMPLETE MANUSCRIPT. This ends on page 84"

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Oh hell. I missed that.

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 168 comments Seems silly on their part.. I imagine they are going to get many more reviews like yours... because 70(ish) pages are missing!!!

message 126: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments So damn. I looked it up on Amazon and it's listed at 160 pages.

I'm so proud of myself for finishing something, and it turns out to be half a graphic novel? what the hell....

Seriously. If I had the whole story, I probably would have rated it higher....

Which means I don't really need to go back and change my review, since the incompletion penalty part is already built in. Heh...

Well, if it's anything like my library system, their selection of graphic novels kinda sucks.

I would include that in your comments on NetGalley too... that was a dumb move on the publishers part.
Really counterproductive.

I live in a city of around 600,000 now. I grew up in a small town of 10,000 so it doesn't take much to impress me. Haha!

message 132: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I'm still reading my CYOA story. It's really fun so I'm not rushing it. Plus...I'm delaying a hard decision, lol.

I finished reading a pretty sad short in Federations last night.

message 133: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments Nicki wrote: "Sorry to hear Unwrapped Sky wasn't that engaging, Nienna. I'll save it for when I'm in a patient mood."

The writing I actually really liked. And the city world was very intriguing. I would say it was a cross between Lovecraft and Guy Gavriel Kay. If it wasn't a library book I probably would've just stuck with it, or save it for another time. I still might read it. Later. This just wasn't the time for it.

message 139: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I read a Scalzi and a McGuire in the past 24 hours. This always happens to me when I read a favourite author or authors. I'm suddenly lost and no longer in the mood for anything else. Curses!

Sparrow Hill Road (Ghost Stories, #1) by Seanan McGuire Sparrow Hill Road

Unlocked An Oral History of Haden's Syndrome by John Scalzi Unlocked: An Oral History of Haden's Syndrome

message 142: by Felina (new)

Felina I just finished Elantris finally!! I loved it.

Now I need to start The Sisters Brothers for a RL book club.

message 143: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Great job, Felina. I've been curious about that Sisters Brothers too...

message 144: by Felina (new)

Felina I've only gotten about 10 pages in but it's a first person narrative and it's already annoying.

message 146: by Lee (new)

Lee | 939 comments Currently reading The Crane Wife. It's... I don't hate it. But I can't really say I like it either. The writing is okay. And I like some of the ideas in it. The main character creates those paper art things out of books (I love looking at them but have no idea what they're called). But I'm not finding the story engaging at all.

message 147: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments Still reading What Lies Beneath the Clock Tower and a romance novella.

message 148: by Emily (new)

Emily (ohmagichour) | 510 comments Goblin Emperor is one of my favorite reads of the year. I loved it, but be prepared for a mix of fantasy and court intrigue.

I just started The Enchanted by Rene Denfeld and I really love it thus far!

message 149: by Nan (new)

Nan (felicityk) | 245 comments Emily wrote: "Goblin Emperor is one of my favorite reads of the year. ..."

I really liked it too. The quiet, measured prose plus the politics and strategy suited my mood.

Now reading The Revolutions.

message 150: by Satya (new)

Satya R (satyarlenka) | 3 comments Well this May I finished Pines, Wayward and Run all three by Blake Crouch. I'll start Book Thief soon and then probably move on to The 5th Wave.
