I loved that book Ryan! Good old fashioned SF with a good dose of humour. Must get myself the next in the series :)

Carolyn | 9837 comments I've just finished Be My Killer a thriller full of horrific deaths so I'm reading a couple of YA novels to recover, Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff and Noteworthy by Riley Redgate.

Love a good assassin's tale!

Carolyn | 9837 comments I've just started a fantasy novel (still recovering from all the horrific deaths in Be My Killer) The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman. It's about an undercover librarian who travels to alternate worlds to bring back important books. Good fun so far!

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments Carolyn, Suzanne might like that one if she reads fantasy ;)

message 1363: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 2164 comments I began reading Where the Trees Were yesterday. I like how the past is written in first person and the present in third. It's a bit quirky, as I think you would usually expect it to be the other way around.

She might too Sharon. I rather like the thought of an undercover librarian!

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments I've started reading The Girl Before and hope I haven't made a mistake. I just peeked at reviews, which I don't normally do, and see none of my friends here have read it and reviews are a mixed basket of stuff.

I don't know about you but if you are not enjoying it, pass it up and read another. Life's too short my friend!
hugs xx

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments I had only started it. Don't mind the opening, was just a bit put off by review. Haven't had a chance to pick it back up. Hopefully, today :)

Li'l Owl | 2504 comments I hope you end up liking it. =o)
You can't always tell if you'll like a book that other people don't. Has been known to happen to me sometimes. I've got it on my TBR also. So
I'd be interested in what you think about it. Let me know?

Rita Chapman | 151 comments I'm currently reading Beneath Strange Stars by Rebecca Bryn, a UK author, but about a lad who is transported to Australia, leaving behind his love and child. Loving it!

It is the second book in the series For Their Country's Good. For some reason it's not coming up on Goodreads, but here's the first book in the series.

I've created it Rita, but there's very little information about it as yet. Accordingly, it's not published yet or for awhile. If you have more information you can give me, I can update it.

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments Last night I read The Summer of '82 by Dave O'Neil. It was in my Judging June Challenge so I'll add another one to replace it. I wanted to get this one finished to send to my sister in California. We're both fans of Dave.
Next up I'm reading Where'd You Go, Bernadette from my TBR pile

message 1394: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Gerada | 60 comments I'm sorry ..I know this is not correct section for this, but cannot find it. I am looking for name of book /author which I have read but cannot remember title or author...sooo frustrating. It's a story..maybe memoir but definitely true story, by an Australian, female author about three children who were left in an Australian orphanage, run by nuns, when their mother died? or became too sick to look after them and the Dad couldn't manage. They were supposed to just stay until things improved but that never happened. I 'think' they left for the orphanage, in the care of a young nun, from Woy Woy Station in NSW. Any clues as to what is the name of book / author much appreciated. Sorry again for hijacking wrong thread.

Kylie (kyliemaree) | 878 comments I'm currently reading Dust of the Land by J.H. Fletcher via audiobook.

It took me a bit to get into this story, but I love how Bella's story (and those of her family) interweave from the present day to when she was a child. There are so many intricate stories within the overall story arc which make up Bella's amazing journey.
