Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments It was very good! I'm trying to finish the rest of the series before the new one comes out next month, along with the "Book Shots" novella.

Good luck with that :)

message 553: by Elias (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments Thanks! I guess the Tick Tock is now on me to finish the series while Michael Bennett takes a vacation [a proper one this time].

LOL!

message 555: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've started reading The Girls by Emma Cline; a fictionalized version about the life of one of the girls on the fringes of the Manson Family. Does anyone remember when it happened? I was a little kid at the time but seem to remember stuff, perhaps the story was still talked about for years.

Carolyn | 9836 comments I've just started The Passage by Justin Cronin for the July tbr challenge. Have been meaning to read this for ages but it's long - 785 pages so I hope I can get it finished before Monday. Just finished The Fireman by Joe Hill which was terrific but also quite long.

I loved The Passage and both its sequels. These are not sparkly vampires!!! (though I like the sparkly kind too)

message 561: by Carolyn (last edited Jul 27, 2016 07:04PM) (new)

Carolyn | 9836 comments The vampires in The Passage sound more like the sinister sort, although I'm only a few chapters in so far.

message 562: by Elias (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments Just finished Merry Christmas, Alex Cross by James Patterson. Really good stuff! I really enjoyed the double storyline.

message 563: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Bowden | 22 comments Currently reading Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. Seems very dramatic but I'm hoping it will provide some well deserved relief from my mountains of homework! lol

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I just finished The Farm by Tom Rob Smith. One of the golden rules of storytelling is to show and not tell. This was one of those rare books that not only did the opposite but succeeded with the highest and brightest of flying colours. Really great job!

Did you read her first - Thirst?

message 571: by Elias (last edited Aug 01, 2016 03:33AM) (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I've read The Genesis Flaw, which I think is her first. I still have yet to read Thirst but I'm looking forward to it. Devour is the start of a new series altogether. Have you read her others as well? Her stories remind me a lot of Michael Crichton.

Brenda | 79969 comments Mod
Good heavens! I've not heard of that one! I thought Thirst was her first :) Goes to show how much I've investigated her work. And I've met her too!!! lol And no, I still have to read that one!

message 573: by Elias (last edited Aug 01, 2016 03:40AM) (new)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments Haha! There are just too many books and authors running around to keep track of. That's awesome that you've met her though! I just missed seeing her at Harry Hartog in Bondi about a week ago. I probably would've gotten a signed copy.

You probably would have! I met her at the Newcastle Writers Festival when Thirst had just been released :)

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I just finished Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling after borrowing it from a brother a few days ago. I really enjoyed it, especially where both the story and characters were taken! I'd actually love to see this as a proper novel or even a film.

message 577: by Ryan (new)

Ryan I'm reading Age of Myth, a fantasy novel by Michael J. Sullivan.

Elias Zanbaka | 862 comments I just finished both Hades by Candice Fox and Bullseye by James Patterson. I enjoyed both of them and look forward to reading their combined work in Never Never. Now I need a nap after this book coma.

message 582: by K (new)

K | 1143 comments I am currently reading Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon - so, so beautiful and painstakingly detailed. I am envious of Ms. Gabaldon's writing!
and Stan (Summer, #1.5) by C.J. Duggan - lots of laugh out loud moments so far.

message 585: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 2163 comments I've been reading Shantaram over the past few days (many more to come). I know a lot of people have loved it, but I didn't realise how laugh-out-loud funny it was going to be. Not all the time, of course, but frequently. I even found myself chuckling over it on a tram yesterday.

message 586: by Elias (new)

People don't openly look at each other on trams, so I don't know.

Jenn J McLeod (jennjmcleod) | 24 comments On my way to Mudgee Readers Festival (anyone going??) and I will be interviewing authors on both days. In prep (not my usual genre) I read Never Never by Candice Fox and James Patterson. Suitably thrilling, as I expected for JP, and kudos to Candice. And I enjoyed The Horseman by Charlotte Nash. Very emotional ending.

I usually go to the Write Around NSW section, (with my books) but I don't think it's on this year. And it's closing night for Sound of Music, so I have to go and pretend to be a nun one more time.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments I decided to read one of Leonie's books before the get together, so I'm reading (and very much enjoying) Frontier Incursion but I only have it on Kindle so, not wanting to carry my tablet outside, I've started a library book Vinegar Girl: The Taming of the Shrew Retold for my walk outside. Both TBR Hijackers, LOL!

It was a stand-out read for me Jen. Exposed a part of WW2 history that I had little idea of. So well-written too.
