message 1458: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I took advantage of the Brotherhood Books 20% off sale because they had a Peter Corris Cliff Hardy book that I don't yet have, and a two other books I'd like to read, so I got my free shipping....

Veronica ⭐️ | 2385 comments i picked up a hardcover copy of The Red Queen at Vinnies. I dont usually buy harcover as they are always tatty but this looks like it hasn't even been read. And it has a ribbon bookmark, love it!

Oh lovely Veronica!

message 1461: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Because, unlike some very lucky people here, I didn't get sent it by the publisher, I detoured a bit on the way home from Mum's to visit Big W and buy Small Great Things for $16, which is a lot more than I usually pay for books, as you all know. This says something about my respect for the author.... also, I need to have a copy to get it signed at the literary lunch next month, don't I!!

message 1462: by Veronica ⭐️ (new)

Veronica ⭐️ | 2385 comments Well worth the money if you are getting it signed Marianne.

Big W always are. But for us it means a trip to Warrawong or Dapto. Finding time is the problem at present.

Fearless will be my next read (I think) after the one I'm reading now - The Chocolate Tin which I'm loving!

I finally gave in after I was informed at QBD that Kitty by Deborah Challinor was out of print; they could order the second for $20....

Angus and Robertson Bookworld had all three for just over $16 each.

Today I received in the mail - Kitty Kitty (Kitty #1) by Deborah Challinor , Amber Amber (Kitty #2) by Deborah Challinor and Band of Gold Band of Gold (Kitty #3) by Deborah Challinor by Deborah Challinor all republished in 2015 with these lovely covers :)

Happy now!

It does pay to look around on the web. I've ordered a book that was over $140 on a few book sites and only $12.99 at QBD. It's for my son and we were a bit mystified at the price - maybe we are only getting the cover. Can't remember the title, I'll post it here when it arrives.

message 1472: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 80007 comments Mod
Wow that's a ridiculous difference Veronica! Surely no one would pay that exorbitant amount!

message 1473: by Veronica ⭐️ (new)

Veronica ⭐️ | 2385 comments I know. I think it may be out of print so asking big money for copies they have. He's been looking for months now and wasn't paying those prices.

I went to Dapto, which is just down the road from Mum's, where I was going anyway. But you'd have to save up a list of things you need to not cancel out the $7 saving on the price of the book in cost of your petrol , wouldn't you?

The illustrated versions of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!
