Just asked for a few Netgalley books and for the first time got declined by Hachette for a book and that hasn't happened in over a year.. Oh well will just need to borrow from the library Late Summer in the Vineyard
Bad luck Michelle :( Did you get approved for the Melina Marchetta one we were talking about some time ago?
I did - still pending as well! It's actually quite strange as Penguin usually approves straight away!
Brenda wrote: "Ooh that is a GREAT book Elias!"It sounds really good! I've had my eye on it for a while, so it's good to be finally reading it.
I didn't buy a book but I did buy a Bluetooth speaker so I can listen to my audiobooks on my phone at home. It's a great thing to do while you are ironing:)
My Brotherhood Books order was sitting on my front verandah when I got home from the Yann Martel luncheon today. It was tucked behind a big potplant so was still there at 5pm. DH is away for a few days, and I was a bit worried someone would take a fancy to it....so anyway:
for Brenda Visions in Death and Divided in Death, both in very good nick.
for me The Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Omnibus 1 and Pretending to Dance and Bright Air, all at 10% off and no postage.
Brenda wrote: "I did - still pending as well! It's actually quite strange as Penguin usually approves straight away!"I'm glad to hear that your all still pending for that book, I am too.
Penguin is usually good to me, so I was wondering......

Strange isn't it! Never mind - not like we don't have anything to read! lol

Brenda wrote: "I picked up The One Man by Andrew Gross which has had rave reviews and I'm looking forward to!"I made a quick stop at Big W today and had this in my hands. I eventually decided against it as I already have quite a bit to read at the moment. Looking forward to see what you think of it!
I've had it on my wish list for quite awhile - really enjoy his work, and this one is a little different. But those of my GR friends who've read it have all given it 4 and 5 star reviews, so I'm looking forward to it :)
I'm not sure if it's the setting but I got a both a Child 44 and The Eagle Has Landed kind of vibe when reading the blurb. It sounds pretty good!
I popped into the Salvos today and came our with a copy of Useful and also a brand new copy of Stasiland.
Brenda I finally got approved for Tell the Truth, Shame the Devil by Melina Marchetta I am guessing you prob just got approved too, can't wait to read it, I have so much on my TBR this month but will need to squeeze it in
Precious and Grace just arrived on my Kindle. Forget all my challenge books. I want to read this first.

Good for you :) Hope it's somewhere in a challenge though? Slot it in - I'm sure it'll fit!

I had an email from Rachel Amphlett to tell me I'd won a signed paperback in her latest competition, I chose Look Closer. And in the mail from Text, three or their Text Classics by Christina Stead:
The Puzzleheaded Girl: Four Novellas
The Beauties And Furies and
A Little Tea, a Little Chat
of course the covers are different as the Text Classics don't seem to be up on GR yet....

I loved Look Closer Marianne. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
Rachel is a very generous author.
My Goodreads win from Text arrived yesterday. I'm Supposed to Protect You from All This: A Memoir by Nadja Spiegelman
in the mail today from Text:The Schooldays of Jesus
and one I'm really looking forward to reading, The Best of Adam Sharp
I received (at home) The Family Secret by Fiona Palmer which I won from TRR - and it's very badly damaged :( So I'll email Penguin!
Brenda wrote: "I received (at home) The Family Secret by Fiona Palmer which I won from TRR - and it's very badly damaged :( So I'll email Penguin!"That's a shame Brenda. I've been very lucky with no damaged books through the mail.
My daughter opened it for me and sent a photo of the damage. It's quite bad and I have no idea how it would have happened. But it's also the first time I've had damage that's so noticeable :(
Recently I've had a few from Text where the first book never turned up until after the rerequested book came, and then it looked liked it had been around the world first, the package was so battered. But luckily the book inside was fine each time. When I spoke to Text's new publicity manager at the Yann Martel lunch, she said, yes, they had had quite a few that looked like they'd gone via Antarctica.
I think AusPost need to pull their socks up: their deliveries are now so much slower and sometimes the condition of the parcels is really unacceptable.
This is the damaged copy :(
And yes Dale, thankfully they will. I received an email today saying another was in the post!

well, last week the book whisperer didn't get to do her charity shop trawl (otherwise engaged at the Yann Martel luncheon :) ) so today she had to treat her withdrawal:these all from Salvos except this one which I got from the library because I really don't have quite enough to read ATM, LOL:
Things We Know by Heart
grabbed these as they were both on my wishlist:
After You $3
All My Enemies $3 which completes my Brock&Kolla series
a few Sara Paretskys
Deadlock, Killing Orders and Body Work all $1 each
a Mills&Boon from one of my fave M&B authors, Taken Over By The Billionaire $1
and Emma $2
withdrawal treatment complete!!

How long will that last though? ;)
Hi Marianne, Sorry I'm messaging you in this 'random' spot..couldn't find an appropriate place; just wanted to thank you for your review of my story..it's much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the read, and thanks again. Margaret.
Margaret, you're very welcome, I enjoyed it and will certainly pass it on to others of my generation.
In the mail today from Text publishing, another copy (first one turned up the day after the second was posted) of Dying: A Memoir which took TWO MONTHS to get here from Melbourne!! And looked like it had been around the world a time or two.NOT a good recommendation for Australia Post.....
Brenda wrote: "I am now the very excited owner of Apprentice in Death by J.D. Robb :D"Great buy Brenda.
After emailing the publisher last night, I have finally been approved for Tell the Truth, Shame the Devil by Melina Marchetta
Apparently the person in charge of that title hadn't been checking NG ;) Hopefully my email might help others who are also waiting!
