So glad my shelves are helping you - yours have helped me! I've actually been saving a book for this - mostly because Karen has reminded me a couple of times... I even have two options on my M&G shelf, but I think I'll save Born in Death since I know I can use it for Option 2 here and it is more likely that I will be able to in the last week too if the category doesn't work for me then.

Billy's Bones by Jamie Fessenden Billy's Bones
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I'm deeply impressed, how Mr. Fessenden has managed to write such a disturbing and heartbreaking story about child abuse in a beautiful way. The actual extent of Kevin's horrific past left me a sobbing mess.
I'll definitely look for other books by this author.

Review : It had the wit and humor of the first Bridgerton series. It was a good read but not as good as the original series. Some subplots like the espionage felt forced and unnecessary. But we can still enjoy the Mallet of Death.

his was another good addition to the series! It was humorous and full of great characters. I loved Cella and Crush together. Their relationship was hilarious and also kind of perfect. I am so glad I found the audios of this series, I had enjoyed the ones I read but I was never going to make my way through these books. The narrator, Charlotte Kane, adds so much to the story!

Calila | 2746 comments Week 9: Between a Rock and a Hard Place

Rating: ★★★★★

Review:
Love Me Like A Rock - I loved Sean, and I loved Austin with him. I enjoyed watching their relationship build. But I struggled when Austin was away from him. I didn't like how Austin treated Vinnie, and I didn't like that he played the victim and tried to act like he had no ownership in how the non-relationship was. He had moments where it seemed like he got it, but then it seemed fleeting. Even at the end, it didn't dawn on him that he treated Sean the way he acted like Vinnie treated him.

Hard Candy - I really really loved this one. Vinnie owned my emotions. More than I expected he would. I loved Bryan and how he stood up for himself, and he realized when he took it too far and was punishing Vinnie for others' mistreatment of him. I loved how Vinnie TRIED. He knew he if he wanted Bryan he'd have to push himself out of his comfort zone and be present. I even loved Boomer's jerkface self by the end. =)

Week #9 ~ Option 2: The King
5/14

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. I loved everything about Wrath and Beth. They brought me to tears a few times. There were some really great scenes with the brothers, too. There were too many side stories for me. I found myself not caring about Assail and Sola. Xcor and Layla were a little more intriguing, but I still would have liked more time with the original cast of characters.

I love this series. This was another really good addition. I admit I was a little confused sometimes. There were a lot of characters to keep track of and I had a hard time remembering who was who. I usually get caught up to speed pretty quick when I pick up this series, not this time. Despite the info-dump, I still adore Nick and his friends. I can't wait for this series to intersect with the Dark-Hunters. I guess I need to get caught up with the Dark-Hunters first though!

This was an enjoyable second chance romance. I really liked the Colorado setting and the background information given on rock climbing was interesting. I loved Austin and Lexi's characters and how they reconnected after high school heartbreak. The secondary characters were also likable and I hope the rest of the series tells the stories of the other guys on the search and rescue team.

A sweet romance with a quirky cast of characters. Elliott, the nerdy microbiologist, and Natalie, the free spirit, ended up being perfect for each other. I am a sucker for a nerdy hero. It was fun to watch Natalie try to stick with her "mancation" vow. Lavender Island sounds like a perfect setting and I look forward to Paige's story in the next book.

Another enjoyable book in this series and another good Mari Carr. Her books always work for me, some more than others, but I've liked them all. Joel and Oakley are both interested in Sadie, but she turns them down repeatedly, she can't choose and refuses to come between the best friends. The solution - don't choose! What follows is a rocky, but steamy, road to love. I'm glad there is more coming - still stories from Quinn, Texas I want to read!

Review : It was my first book by Joanna Shupe and I liked her writing style. The story had an interesting premises but the hero was an unlikable character. I did not understand how the heroine fell in love the hero (who had abandoned her for 8 years ) after a little sex. A short enjoyable read.

Week #10

The Making of Matt (Souls of the Knight, #3) by Nicola Haken The Making of Matt
Rating: 4 stars
Review:
A great friends to lovers romance!
I already loved Matt from the first two books of this series and I really enjoyed reading his and Alex' story.
Maybe it's unrealistic, that a man, Matt, who had had sex with countless women over the last years (in to him meaningless encounters) suddenly realized, that he was in love with his best friend, Alex, a man. But here, with this book, I didn't care, because their love was written compelling and made the romance junkie in me happy.
Matt again was hilarious, he's talking without filter and didn't take shit from anyone. And Alex, he was his perfect counterpart. Their only serious fault? They didn't talk to each other, when it would have been really important!
Mixed in was the serious topic of HIV, which was handled impressively and with care.
I loved this book and I think I'll add it to my to-read-again shelf.

Calila | 2746 comments Week 10: Dirty Talk

Rating: ★★★

Review: *A copy of this book was provided for free by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

This book was slow to start, but it picked up as the plot got rolling. I was a little bugged by all the characters having a name that was a city or a state(Vegas, London, Dakota, Venice, Bronx, etc), I thought maybe they were aliases given their field of work, but the trend continued to people outside of the job and I don't recall it being mentioned. It was SUPER distracting. I expected this to be more erotica, but there actually weren't too many of scenes of "dirty talk" and the ones that were there were well done, it wasn't sleazy or shallow or rote. This book was more like a horror film, in a good way, it was a thriller with some twists I didn't predict. I hadn't guessed the bad guy, I had a inkling but had brushed it off. I loved his Scream reference by the way! I wish the ending was more resolved, It just kind of ends. Mid-story. Which I don't hate, but I don't love either. Maybe there will be a sequel....the killer always comes back after all. And I'll be happy to read should that happen. This was a nice difference from what I normally read and it was good. I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed this prequel to the Carhart series. The gender role reversal was interesting and I liked that both the hero and heroine came from working class backgrounds. William was not very likable at the beginning but I grew to like him as the story went on. I admired Lavinia's courage and willingness to do whatever it took to help her family. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
