Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5279 comments Do you want us to have authors approved here if it's in the Goodreads description, or should we just claim it?

If so, I'd like to have Gregory Maguire approved for teaching:

He was a professor and co-director at the Simmons College Center for the Study of Children's Literature from 1979-1985.

It isn't necessary, but it does make things easier.

You're good on Maguire.

Denise | 1815 comments I have two biographies going and both authors also teach:

How to Live: A Life of Montaigne in One Question and Twenty Attempts at An Answer by Sarah Bakewell

(This one is so good that l've put everything else aside for now. She is on the Graham Greene task list too.)

Reference: http://sarahbakewell.com/about/ - next to the last paragraph

Butterfly in the Typewriter: The Short, Tragic Life of John Kennedy Toole and the Remarkable Story of A Confederacy of Dunces by Cory MacLauchlin

(Interesting since I love A Confederacy of Dunces, but really detailed.)

Reference: http://corymaclauchlin.com/about/ - fourth paragraph

Thanks!

Thanks! I sort of miss writing reviews, even though I'm not good at it. Anyway, I'm enjoying taking a break from novels this challenge and reading a lot of short stories and biographies.

Yes. Sometimes substitutes are credentialed and sometimes not, but we'll give her the benefit of the doubt.

Deedee | 2283 comments Would Kurt Vonnegut fit 10.8? His wikipedia Kurt Vonnegut article states: In addition to lecturing on creative writing at Harvard University, Vonnegut taught at the City University of New York, where he was dubbed a Distinguished Professor of English Prose. He was later elected vice president of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, and given honorary degrees by, among others, Indiana University and Bennington College. Thanks!

Yes, we have accepted that kind of teaching position for others, so for Vonnegut also.

I checked the spreadsheet and didn't see him, so was going through the article so that I could confirm .. perhaps the radio is too distracting ( my husband is being interviewed today), or perhaps my daughter and her friend playing Minecraft, as I am just not seeing it.

"Lester Goran, a creative writing professor at the University of Miami and a distinguished fiction writer himself, met Singer in 1978, shortly before the Nobel Prize.
