Thanks! And now he's just mentioned in the interview that Charles Bukowski was one of his heroes; no wonder I like both of them. This was the first poetry of Carver's that I've read and I didn't enjoy most of it. But his short stories are beyond great.

With the poetry, I was curious. I see he authored at least one screenplay. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond...

I'm going to add him to Narayan.

Denise | 1815 comments R.K. Narayan: "It took Narayan four years to obtain his bachelor's degree, a year longer than usual. After being persuaded by a friend that taking a master's degree (M.A.) would kill his interest in literature, he briefly held a job as a school teacher; however, he quit in protest when the headmaster of the school asked him to substitute for the physical training master."

Is "briefly" long enough for our task purposes?

Trying to be consistent, we'll assume he needed a license, no matter how briefly. ;-)

Thank you! Too bad about the dust-up with the headmaster though.

I just started Under the Banyan Tree and Other Stories, and have a memoir and travel piece lined up too. He's a new author to me, and I'm enjoying his writing so far. I thought I should give him a try since we've named a task for him.

You're fine to have held off a bit!

Can you find an anthology or something for at least one of Diaz's essays? We have decided that published singly in magazines will not suffice for this task.
