Too involved for me to explain while on mobile. See comment four of this thread or any of the team threads :) Everyone has one (1) free pass for the challenge, they don't have to use it, but it's just for in case there is a category that is super difficult for them...they still have to read a book, but it doesn't have to fit the called category. Hope that helps :D
