I'm not using this one as we can't verify the page count and the file size is very low.

Lisa (skottiesgerl) | 94 comments I'm just curious why did you put Cress all the way down in hand 10? It can be used many times before then. Just curious. Rachel has read it so it can also be used for reverse

Lisa wrote: "I'm just curious why did you put Cress all the way down in hand 10? It can be used many times before then. Just curious. Rachel has read it so it can also be used for reverse"

Because we get less books that fit cards 5 and 9 than we do for the other cards. We have a few card 5s in the later hands. This way we don't have to worry about them later.

May Mini Challenge

May is the month of Eurovision! So how could we pass up the chance to base our mini challenge on this song contest? :o

This is an optional mini challenge for our UNO players.

◈ Books with a read date between May 10 - May 31 count.(books just need to be read at any time after this has been posted until the end of the UNO challenge!)
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (March 1)
◈ As a team, solve the puzzles by correctly guessing the word missing in each sentence below. (In brackets are the number of characters the word has)
◈ Then, as a team, start to spell-out these words. There are 13 words in all. Although we think it is unlikely that teams will complete all the words, you are welcome to try!
◈ For each word completed via spell-it-out, your team receives 5 points per letter and 10 points per word. Uncompleted words receive only 5 points per letter.
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ One letter per book
◈ The usual book length rules apply
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a EUROVISION tab so that you can track your books and claim your points

Spell-it-out rules
For this mini-challenge, you are using the same rules that apply for UNO. So a letter needs to be the first letter in the book title, author first name or surname, character name or nickname, or setting. Articles (a/an/the) can be ignored in the book titles. For this spell-it-out, you can also use the first letter in the series name.

1.The first _________ (10) Song Contest was in 1956 in Lugano, Switzerland

2.It's foremost _________ (9) was to promote television

3.The first colour _________ (9) was in 1968

4.In 1969. there was a four way tie with joint winners being Spain, United Kingdom, _________ (11) and France.

5.Abba won with Waterloo for _________ (6) in 1974 with a score of 24. That same year, Olivia Newton-Jon placed equal fourth (representing United Kingdom) with 14 points.

6._________ (7) returned to the competition in 1978, their first appearance since 1966 which is the second longest absence ever recorded from the competition

7.For the very first time, the ESC travelled out of Europe and to the Israeli capital of Jerusalem in 1979. _________ (6) won that year for the second year in a row, but were unable to fund hosting the 1980 ESC.

8.In 1989 the ESC came "home" and after 33 years was again hosted in Switzerland, this time in _________ (8)

9.Ireland won in 1992,1993 and 1994 which was the _________ (5) time a country had ever won 3 years in a row. They then won again in 1996

10.The first contest of the new millenium was staged in _________ (9) Sweden in 2000

11.The 49th ESC in 2004 was the first in a new format of having semi-finals of two nights so that 36 countries could compete. _________ (8), the only city in the world that spans two continents, was selected as the host city.

12.Monster mask wearing death-metal band _________ (5) famously won for Finland in 2006, Finalnd's first win. They caused a lot of controversy with their grotesque costumes and were branded by some as "Satanists".

13."Fairytale" won for _________ (6) in 2009 with the single being seen as one of the most successful Eurovison winners ever. It topped the charts in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia and the Ukraine and made it into the top 10 in UK, Germany, Australia and Estonia. It was even a minor hit in Australia!

Lisa (skottiesgerl) | 94 comments I just finished Wicked for You by Shayla Black can be used for the following cards:

Hand 1: Wild Draw Four (any book)
Hand 3: Card 3 ( character "Callie a/k/a Callindra Howe" )
Hand 4: Card 2 (setting Texas ) Card Wild (for many reasons) Card 6 (Author Shayla Black)
Hand 5: Wild (many reasons) Card 8 (character Elise) Card 6 (Author Shayla Black)
*****Hand 11: Card 1 Blue (cover mostly blue and character Nelson Osborne)

I am still not quite understanding the mini challenge Can someone give me an example of how this book would fit in?

message 469: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a spell it out challenge. So we need to spell out each word using books like we do for the hands.

So for the word 'FIRST' I've used

my book The Likeness for F as the author is Tana French
Dima's book Beautiful Lies for R as there is a character called Ridley
and your book Wicked for You for S as the author is Shayla Black

we still need to complete the letters I and T for this word.

We get 5 points per letter completed and an extra 10 points for each word completed. So we start with the shorter words and work our way up.
