Yes, I've noticed that the information doesn't always appear there! My first glance goes there, then I look to see if they list as sub-headings the different styles of writing. If that still comes up inadequate then I have to read the article, heaven forbid! ;)

I could have given my word for Murakami, would that have counted ? I've read his writing across all formats .... ;)

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14241 comments Amanda wrote: "If that still comes up inadequate then I have to read the article, heaven forbid!"

Even if there are no specific sub-headings, I can usually see the variety in the list of works, or better yet, if the author has a listed/complete bibliography.

Amanda | 1527 comments Okay, on the grounds that I need more options if Baileys gets up :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zadie_S...

(my daughter is shocked I didn't vote this way, but on researching my options another one proved better for my reading goals ).

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14241 comments Got Zadie Smith.

message 55: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 1527 comments this task is coming up a lot more fruitful than I expected!

I guess that speaks of the need for versatility, particularly in this day and age. Man has got to b versatile to get his bread and butter!

She is not going to work unless you can find her essays collected and published somewhere.

Struggling with that. I did find a review (for television however):

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3110 comments Well! It appears Thomas Keneally has also written some plays! With Fiction & NF, he fits this task too?

message 63: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3110 comments Btw, I didn't phrase #10 as a question but are those 2 okay?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14241 comments Tien wrote: "Btw, I didn't phrase #10 as a question but are those 2 okay?"

I'm sorry I missed this. Ruth Park is fine.

The GR profile ofr D'Arcy Niland GR seems incomplete. Can you point in in another direction?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14241 comments Tien wrote: "Well! It appears Thomas Keneally has also written some plays! With Fiction & NF, he fits this task too?"

OH, thank you for this one! Got him on our list now!

Bea Anne McCaffrey - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_Mc...

message 75: by Bea (new)

Bea What about Hubert Selby Jr.? Wikipedia notes that he wrote short stories (four of which were published and then later became part of his first novel), fiction, screenplays and teleplays.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubert_....

"Selby continued to write short fiction, as well as screenplays and teleplays at his apartment in West Hollywood."

"Selby combined "Tralala", "The Queen Is Dead" and four other loosely linked short stories as part of his first novel, Last Exit to Brooklyn (1964)."

Almost makes me want to cross the floor to Mystery ( except du Maurier who has Classics ranked before mystery), and when i was just talking about having to lobby for Classics!

Joanna (walker) | 2307 comments Marion Zimmer Bradley - novels, short stories, poetry (see The Maenads)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_...

It looks like maybe just a single poem was published...Is that enough to count for poetry? Also, wiki lists "scholarly works" which look like nonfiction. (e.g., The Necessity for Beauty: Robert W. Chambers and the Romantic Tradition) Does that do it?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14241 comments Tien wrote: "Stephen King - bibliography: novels, short stories, & NF

You're good with these Tien.

Bea Elizabeth, did Hubert Selby Jr (post #75) get approved? I wasn't sure whether screenplays and teleplays would count.

Yes, sorry, I missed this one. He's good - novels, short stories, screenplays (film).

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5279 comments I want to remind or let everyone know about this site for confirming authors for this task and get Jane Smiley added to the list:

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/j...

It's quite easy to see what works an author has published and in what categories. Sorry I didn't remember it until today!

message 87: by Joanna (new)

Joanna (walker) | 2307 comments Okay, a few additional, using fantastic fiction:

Zakes Mda - novels, plays, nonfiction

I may be taking your words too literally - is there an actual list of approved authors?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14241 comments Valerie wrote: "I may be taking your words too literally - is there an actual list of approved authors? "

I am compiling a list as you all post. There was not a list before the task announcements.

This is the link to authors mentioned/approved in this thread through Post 77.

Deedee | 2283 comments http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/index.cgi is a good source for the bibliography of science fiction and fantasy writers. Non-fiction is at the bottom of the page.

So far, I've checked the following:

Poul Anderson (novels, short stories, poems, essays, non-fiction)
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?3

Issac Asimov (novels, short fiction, non-fiction)
http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?5

Fredrik Pohl (novels, short fiction, non-fiction)

Jo Walton (novels, short fiction, non-fiction)

Poetry - Poems

Short Stories - Strange News from Another Star
