Raúl Gilo | 28 comments Hi, all.
It looks like a nice Group. Hope to find time to go through the different posts in the next weeks.
I was born in Spain, but I consider myself a citizen of the world. Engineer, traveller, chess player, salesman and writer. And not necessarily in that order...
Hope to enjoy reading you!

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Raul and welcome!

Your occupations and hobbies easily connect with all three of our major directions. I'll just need to think of something for the chess, but since I'm a fan myself - shouldn't be a problem -:)

Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Holly (goldikova) | 12 comments Greetings to the group.

My name is Holly, I live in the Midwestern U.S. I am a lifelong horsewoman and a bloodstock agent by trade. I write for my own personal enjoyment; am not interested in publishing my work. These days I read mostly fantasy and non-fiction. I joined the group because I have a friend in the group and the discussion topics that kept popping up in my updates feed were always so interesting.

message 862: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Holly and welcome!

Horses, writing, reading all sound cool. Non- publishing saves a lot of post-publishing worries.

If you encountered interesting themes from the outside, hope you'd enjoy more from the inside and contribute from your own -:)

P.K. Davies | 402 comments Greetinga all and thanks for invite, Nik. I'm PK. See my profile for a little bit more of me or my website (www.penpowerwriting.com)
I've done a quick whizz through the threads and there are some serious issues here which I hope I will be able to add more confusion to at a later date. I am new to GR so I am picking my way as in a minefield. But I can contribute something useful right away; Annie wrote (Jun 13, 2016) that she never found out what TTFN means. It was the signing-off phrase of Tommy Hanley in the forties on his hilarious radio show ITMA. It means, Ta ta for now. TTFN

message 865: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi PK and welcome!

Thanks for decoding and even providing an etymology of that strange abbreviation.
This minefield rarely explodes, so tread confidently and bring confusion or clarity, as you may wish -:)
Would like to hear more about "sweet wine and bitter brews" from your site on our drinking threads in the lounge.

I think it is a bit late to jump in on this month's read; but it sounds like an interesting book, and a little bit similar to the one I am struggling with just now. I haven't been reading for the past two months because i've just had too many other writing things to do - including getting to grips with GR. But I look forward to getting involved with reading soonest.

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Some of these are big questions.
I'm pretty good in emptying wine bottles, while nuclear transmutation succeeds in conversion of chemical elements, but I'd love to learn a simpler way for 'water into wine' metamorphosis.

Arguably an unexplained (even more so - unproven) part might still be bigger than a known one. Hypotheses are abundant, but still many basic things remain largely unknown: human brain, sleep, aging, Trump - Russian connection, if any, and so many more..
It takes right apple to fall on right newton or another Archimedes taking a bath to move another step forward on the path of absolute knowledge.
For only a few thousands years of science and research we know pretty much and constantly replenish our baggage with new knowledge... That's the current reality, which evolves though every day

And sadly everything they said is right. Recently we had a referandum and The High Election Board cheated so they can make our president a dictator. They decided to count the blank votes as "yes" and they decided this in the election day. So even if the "no" votes have won, because of the blank votes -of course those votes were put there by illegal ways- "yes" votes seems to won with %51. This is illegal and against to constitution yet we are tied up. This could mean Civil War. The votes are almost %50 - %50.

P.K. Davies | 402 comments Civil War! The words don't strike to the heart of some people as they should. If one did a resume of civil wars they would find the bloodiest, nastiest wars in history. I hope you are wrong Mert, but my mind was kind of getting that message when I saw the result. I see Syria when I think about it.

Hello! I was invited to join by Nik. I'm a debut author whose first book, Grim Ambition, and its short story prequel, Grim Inception, were just released last month. I try promote the heck out of them to try to make money as an author instead of having to work day jobs, but so far, I'm barely breaking even. I know it's nearly impossible to make money as an author, but I want to at least try! Plus I really just love getting my world and characters out there to hear what other people think! :D

message 884: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Jennifer and welcome!

Congrats and good luck with the debut and with accomplishing the sequels.
Took a look and for a freshly released book you are doing quite well. 40 reviews on Amazon during just a month and few days?! That's impressive. You mean biz here, no doubt.
Barely breaking even? Welcome to the club -:) However, there are authors that prove making money off writing is possible. Fellow members frequently share their strategies and what works and what doesn't on the group, if you'd want to have a look.

Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Thank you so much! Nice to meet you, and thanks for the add! :)

Well, here's what I'm worried about... I'm really good at hyping and promoting in advance, which is how I got so many people pumped about it before the book even came out. Now that the hype is dwindling, I'm afraid sales will too. Which is why I'm hard at work at an origin story for my villain while I wait for my editor to be ready to work through book two of the trilogy.

I'm coming up with a ton of fun ideas to promote everything that are unique, like the book release party I had where I hired friends to dress up as my characters that looked similar to them, for photo ops, had live bands playing, did a flash mob dance with the characters, and so on. I'm really into unique things like that, but boy, does it take a ton of work, money and energy to pull off! Currently I'm going to a few conventions to sell my book at, then I will be back home working on recording people for the Audible versions. I'm also thinking about some kind of music video to promote the book, using the people I already have who are willing to keep dressing up as the characters. And, I'm always ready to train people for another flash mob dance somewhere in public lol!

So yeah, it's been insane, and it's hard to see all this work plateau and dwindle. But I refuse to give up. :) These characters mean so, so much to me, and I'm going to keep going full-tilt with all of this! :D

If you want to see pics of the party with the characters doing photo ops, here's the album on my site :D https://agrimtrilogy.com/2017/05/02/a...

Thanks again!

In advance or after release, just keep doing what you are good at.. Release of the book, parties, upcoming sequel are all excellent events to keep the hype up.. Proactive approach coupled with rewarding feedback are excellent drivers. As long as you keep control over expenses and keep it near and desirably above the break even - all should be fine!
Nice pics and interesting assortment of cool dudes -:) Beers, music, books - looks like a nice party. Too bad, I missed -:(
All in all, you are having an excellent launch and I hope nothing will dwindle!

Saqib Noor (saqibnoor) | 11 comments Hi all, am joining the group to hopefully contemplate world issues and gain new perspectives from different people.

I'm an orthopaedic surgeon in the UK but will soon be travelling abroad. I recently published a book about my travels as a doctor abroad, titled "Surgery on the shoulders of giants" and discuss international healthcare issues as well as stories from the Haiti earthquake and other disasters.

It gives one perspective on life and I hope this group can give more for me to contemplate :) Would love to learn more from others.

message 893: by Baz (new)

Baz MW (bazcatt) Hi all. I'm Barry from Aus. I'm currently living with my partner and working in suburban Brisbane after growing up in Sydney and spending some years living in and exploring Europe. Interests include reading (obviously) with genres tending toward the darker end of the spectrum, writing, architecture, politics, global affairs and exploring the corners of the world.

Things that have spiked my interest in the world this week?
The assault on Alan Joyce (Qantas CEO) for advocating equal rights (apparently it's not a hate crime or religious extremism when it's committed by a Caucasian farmer), the handing down of the national budget and France's new dashing young leader.

There are some pretty interesting topics that I can see here so I definitely hope to stop by often to have a gander :)

message 894: by P.K. (new)

P.K. Davies | 402 comments Welcome Baz. You sound as if you're going to join in the fun. Yes, we got the Alan Joyce thing here too. Dashing in France may not be enough. It steadies the EU ship for a moment until the next storm hits.

message 895: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Baz and welcome,

We often gravitate towards the darker side of most things you mention (apart maybe from architecture), because the nice side is nicer, but less interesting.
We have a dedicated thread for Macron and some non-country specific budgetary ones. Nothing about Qantas, I'm afraid, and you are welcome to open one, as hate crimes and religious tensions are also frequent visitors here.

Hope you'll enjoy and contribute
