Good luck with graduation and the blog! In what capacity do you plan to enter publishing?

Hope you'll enjoy and contribute and your blog gets some good exposure

Groovy Lee Welcome, Audrey. And I have to say, "What!?"

Welcome, Sophie-Jane:)

lol, I didn't mean I type whole books on it, just sometimes letters (to my girlfriend) and it's very satisfying..... my actual writing is, of course, done on the laptop

M.C. Glan | 6 comments Hello,
My I am a new Indie Author, having put out a sci-fi ebook couple of months ago. I'm currently writing a dark fantasy novel that looks like is turning into a trilogy.
I love cooking, walking my dog, playing xbox one games, and am an avid movie buff (I should be going back to reading more).
I've learned a lot as far as marketing goes, but I'm feeling like I need to learn more...
I have to say Goodreads looks like an awesome place for both readers and authors!

I am from Indonesia. I like science fiction, humor stories, wuxia, manga, mysteries, and recently interested in mysteries novels by Asian authors.

I was wondering aimlessly in Goodreads and found one of Alex G's review, then request GR friendship, and the next thing I know, he invited me to this Group.

I see a lot of passionate and visionary wonderful people in this group. I wish I can learn something and contribute something in return into this group too.

I'm a college professor about to take early retirement to write and teach yoga and have a life. I read literary fiction, mystery, historical fiction, nonfiction and way too much news. I'm working on the sixth book in my mystery series. I seldom show up on Goodreads anymore because all my groups seemed to have degenerated into either total silence or author promo spam. I'm the moderator of a non-Goodreads marketing discussion group for mystery authors and like to do experiments studying the effects of various marketing strategies. If you want to know more about what I write, my web site is http://amberfoxxmysteries.com but I will not spam you with a bunch of self-promotion here. I liked the comment in this section that said this seemed like an intellectual group. Intellectual is a desirable attribute.

message 774: by Nik (new)

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Amber and welcome!

Yeah, it may be a little sad that often to have a life one needs to retire. It's important to have it all the time, as much as possible!
Didn't run an IQ test, but we are blessed with many brilliant people here -:)

Roger Jackson Hello everyone, I'm Roger.

I am a computer programmer by day and author by night (although I haven't had nearly as much time at night to write as I would like). I enjoy reading SF&F, mysteries, post-apocalyptic, and some fine literature from time to time. I also like an occasional book on history if it is about a specific region or time period, especially if it is off the beaten path.

I would describe my style of writing as realistic, with just a pinch of unusual. I enjoy discussions and/or debates and am looking forward to meeting others that enjoy them also. Alex invited me to the group. I guess he liked my debates in another group we both frequent. It is never my intent to offend, but if I do then just slap me up side the head and tell me to stop.

Benjamin Dillon | 2 comments Hello there. My name is Ben, and I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to the board, and kind of new to self publishing as well. I was wondering if anyone could help myself get established as a self published author. Specifically, I was hoping there was a tutorial series pertaining to self publishing on Amazon. I recently submitted a short story to their KDP program, and when the file conversion was complete, all my headers and footers were removed and the paragraphs were all given a weird indentation. In addition to my formatting difficulties, I'm a little unclear as to how to get my short story notice. If anyone has room under their wing for me, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Ben and welcome!

You can try a different source file and see how it works. Even a .doc file usually uploads quite smoothly, but you might need to toy with it to get it there the way you want.
Getting noticed - is a million dollar question -:) Marketing, socializing, etc can help a bit.
Congrats on having a story published and good luck with it!
