Anita (neet413) | 94 comments Greetings and salutations!

My name is Anita, and I was born, raised, and reside in Western Massachusetts.

I work as an IT Support Analyst, I live with my boyfriend of 10 and a half years in a nice rural neighborhood. Basics about me:

I love my Red Sox and Patriots!

I read a lot; books, magazines, online articles and white sheets.

I spend at least an hour a day on my PS3 (Current obsession is Kingdom of Alamur:Reckoning).

I love love LOVE horror movies, especially cheesy B movies.

I also am interested in photography, we have a lot of wildlife that comes around and I like to show them off by posting the pics online.

Last but certainly not least, I would like say thanks for the invite to join the group, I believe I'm going to like it here!

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi Anita and welcome!

We discuss horrors regularly more real and global rather than fictional though.
Wildlife, photography and even reading also go well-:)

Hope you'll enjoy and contribute (maybe some pic-s? Our gallery may require some upgrade-:))

maybe a good discussion would be about the role of stories in single-player and online games.

interestingly, a recent presentation discussed how blogging/tweeting competes w/our attention vs. book reading. see 11:50 in the video referenced in this post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Joanne Hello All,

My name is Joanne and I am here at the invitation of Alex G. Thanks Alex G! I met Alex at the Japanese Literature club or light novel cub. I can't remember which! I think it was the light novel one. I believe he was there when we were discussing the Kwaidan Ghost stories by Hearn.

A few things about me. Well..in terms of career, I've been around! During the past 10 years I've gone through a lot of changes. I was a children's storyteller at the public library for about 5 years. Then some things went wrong with that job and I felt that I needed to leave. I did some soul searching trying to find a place to go. For a while, I did story time for kids in a homeless shelter near me. That didn't last very long. Now I'm doing something so different that I sort of can't believe it.

In my current job, I am working as a volunteer at an therapeutic horse back riding facility. I help take care of horses and donkeys. I also help with the lessons. We work with people who have physical and mental challenges. The mental challenges range from autism to PTSD.

My reading interests are as varied as my job history. About the only books I don't like are ones that have a lot of explicit sex or violence. I tend to prefer fantasy novels and all different kinds of fiction.

the road to publication and finding an audience is an arduous journey. sure, you can post in the " All Things Writing & Publishing" discussion folder. we have quite a few sci-fi writers here.

if your dad hasn't already read Publishing 101, I'd recommend it. i'm reading it now. he should also watch the video referenced in https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

he could also join us here in this group.

Nik, I like that last statement: No formal CV/resume or ... That's choice!

The reason I joined Goodreads, I was looking for Beta-Readers who could give me an honest opinion of my just written books, and point out the flaws and weak points before going to press.

I'm a retired US DoD employee, living in Germany, and have a fixed income. I can't afford to pay a professional to point out my story's defects. So, I'm always in search of a good Beta.

My passion is writing. I like to tell stories with a philosophical bent, and not just to be telling a story. I've written many stories, but have only self-published 6. I have 2 more in the works. I like the humorous side of life but my last was a tragedy of sorts--also my next. My site is: http://enheim.page.tl for those who are interested.

I consider myself a beginner, and not a polished pro. I am constantly learning the craft, so I need a lot of guidance. Anyone out there willing to guide me? I'm open for review.

Nik Krasno | 19850 comments Hi GR and welcome!

Why not to greet you formally, right? -:)
Glad that you enjoy living in Germany and engaged in your passion. The life is built in such a way that only a fraction of time we can dedicate to the things we really want to do. I believe the bigger the fraction, the more enjoyable is life. Hope now retired and in the place you like your percentage is near 100.
You might hook up with beta readers hear or just enjoy and contribute

message 578: by GR (new)

GR Oliver | 479 comments I'd like to know, what is exactly is a Romance? Is it an adventure between 2 people (a romanic comedy)? or is it an adventure of a time period? or what? What comes to my mind, is the 3 Musketeers.

Set me straight...

Bob Rich | 72 comments Thank you for inviting me, Nik.
I am an Australian storyteller with 15 published books. The 16th is on the way, and I am actually giving away free copies to get advance reviews. My hope is to have 100 reviews see the light on the day the book does.
Since MONEY seems to be a prominent concern, you might chase me out after all. My wife and I have lived in voluntary poverty since 1978, and have found it to be the secret of contentment. If you want to know why I am so crazy, go to my blog https://bobrich18.wordpress.com and read my essay "How to change the world."
Hope it's OK to mention it here, but at the moment my publisher is giving away 9 paper copies of my 15th book, Ascending Spiral, until 6th November. The link is https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...
:)

Hi Bob and welcome to the group!
You have a misleading surname then -:)
Money is a concern, but certainly not the only one. Taken a brief look at the essay and it reads like something I'd endorse maybe with less emphasis specifically on nature.
We have an announcements folder, where your giveaway is more appropriate, but we'll cut you some slack, as it is-:)
Good luck with the g/a btw and hope you have those 100 reviews when #16 goes live. Very well done!
Hope you'll enjoy and contribute

Good luck with accomplishing the book and adapting to Europe. Just yesterday Michel reported back a good number of downloads of his freshly released book and concluded that 'sex sells'-:)

I've been following several discussions in this group for a while now yet somehow forgot to introduce myself. I enjoy reading about others experiences and marketing tips! Take care!
