Elinaly I say lets read books that have been waiting either on our GR-shelf or on our home-shelf for more than 6 months. Everybody agree?

The detour says word-by-word:
Read a book that has been on your "to read" shelf for more than 6 months.

GR is nowhere mentioned, so...

Agree! And I think I read in the original rules/sign up that the teams could make those types of decisions....if you want me to find it, let me know.

Angie ☯ | 3092 comments Here is the post......

Any questions about how to play the game (i.e. need clarification of a rule) you can ask the NBRC Travel Agent

If you have questions like "Is this book yellow enough for the 'Read a book with a yellow cover' detour'? " You can ask your fellow players in this thread
The travel agent may stop by here occasionally, but as this is a self managed challenge, we are relying on you and your peers to help with answering each other's questions. You can also refer to the Goal FAQ spreadsheet.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 334 comments Im listening to Ghost Story (The Dresden Files, #13) by Jim Butcher its been on my tbr shelf since June 2015.

message 207: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) I have completed Victoria's daughters. I had it on my tbr shelf since I first began adding books in Goodreads, Nov 2011.

message 208: by Martina (new)

Martina Forasacco | 74 comments Ghost Story looks kind of intriguing! I never heard of that author, but I'll add it to my to - read list ** and Helen wow! I'm not the only one leaving books on the "to - read shelf" for ages, inside and outside goodreads :)

message 209: by Angie ☯ (last edited Mar 12, 2016 07:52PM) (new)

Angie ☯ | 3092 comments I am reading Special Offers for the Detour on # of chapters (21 chapters). It has been on my TBR list since July 13, 2014!!!

I have 900+ books in my Kindle alone that are waiting to be read....

message 210: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 3092 comments I forgot to post! I completed my Malaysia read on 3/8.

Every Crooked Path (The Bowers Files #8) by Steven James

message 211: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) Martina, I sometimes want to read a book but not enough to pay the price of the book. Victoria's Daughters was put on sale at the right time. YEA.

It was worth the wait.
I have 4 or 5 other books that I added at the same time but they are still priced out of range.

message 212: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly yes, this week gives us a chance to dust our books :D

900 books Angie... oh dear... you can do it!! :)

Helen I also tend to buy (more) books when they are discounted. So sometimes the waiting is worth it.
And I must confess - I guess I'm from "the previous generation", lol, because I still read only books which allow me to feel the pages between by fingers and when you first open the book - smell the scent of the unread new book...
(so no audios or pdf files or other e-books fo me... for now (at least) - one day I gotta keep up with the world :))

message 213: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) Hold out as long as you can on changing from books with pages you can feel. I did but when we moved to a smaller home as there are only two of us now, I had to reduce the number of books I can shelve. With ebooks, that is never a problem.

For NBR of chapters, I am going to read Forgotten & Remembered: The Duke's Second Wife with 44 chapters by Bree Wolf. The is the first time I have read a book by this author.

Elinaly Helen wrote: "For NBR of chapters, I am going to read Forgotten & Remembered: The Duke's Second Wife with 44 chapters by Bree Wolf. The is the first time I have read a book by this author..."

Helen, 44 chapters is unfortunately too much for this detour :(
To fit the task it has to be book with 21-30 chapters.

I haven't found one yet... this is the most difficult detour for me :D

message 215: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) So sorry, you are correct. I have a few more and I will see if any of them fit.

message 216: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) This is difficult as books seem to have too few or too many chapters. However, I think I have found one.

Gifted Thief by Helen Harper with 26 chapters.

Thanks for keeping me on track.

message 217: by Martina (new)

Martina Forasacco | 74 comments Helen, I had the same problem sith number of chapters: that's why I added Dracula as soon as I found it in my bookshelf XD and I do the same, but I found some amazing old or used bookshops where you buy such great books for soo little ** and even though I'm young I'm still for the paper books, that's why it's easier to buy cheap ones as long as you like old copies :)

Elinaly Completion Post

Valküürid by Paulo Coelho
English translation The Valkyries
How it fits: shelved on 05/4/2015
Read date: 3/13/2016
Rating: 3 stars

I really like Coehlo's books, because every book contains inspiring and insightful spiritual messages. You read the sentence, think about it for a while and find how true it is what he has said.
Some of his books influence you more and some less, but I like to read his books from time to time.

Quote: “Infatuation was a good thing. It gave spice to life, and added to its enjoyment... But it was different from love. Love was worth everything, and couldn't be exchanged for anything.”

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 334 comments Oh Martina the Harry Dresden series is amazing.

I found the Harry Dresden series amazing also. I was able to get from Talking Books for my brother (he is blind) and he liked it also.

message 222: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) Completed Gifted Thief by Helen Harper. It has 26 chapters. Was a very interesting story and I enjoyed reading it. The ending was a bit sad but ok.

message 223: by Helen (new)

Helen Bassett (hbee741) I am off to the next stop, Easter Island. I am going to read Speak Daggers to Her. I think that is 17 characters in the title.

Rather sorry this is the last stop. I have enjoyed traveling with all of you.

Martina Forasacco | 74 comments Completed my book a couple days ago but did not get the time to upload the status! Sorry! We can move on to our last trip together :( I'd say to continue travelling but I'm not sure as I'm moving to Japan in a couple weeks and won't have any book with me :( Let me know if we try to go on, though :) and thank you for suggesting that serie!

Elinaly Completion Post

Boys Without Names by Kashmira Sheth
How it fits: 28 chapters
Read date: 3/19/2016
Rating: 5 stars

This was a sad and cruel story written in such warmhearted way as possible it is to write about child labour. Though it is children's book and really easy read I couldn't hold back the tears in the end.

Do we think about who may have made the things (we don't even really need) when we buy cheap goods made in China... India.. etc?
Yes, this book touched my heart.

message 244: by Martina (new)

Martina Forasacco | 74 comments Oh, yes, I almost forgot there is another week after this! I'm happy! :)
I'm quite afraid of the cultural shock but what I'm really scared of not having books with me XD I'll go for University Overseas experience :) I have studied Japanese for three years now, but I still can read only childrens' books, written Japanese is really hard :(
But if I arrive and find out I could keep up with english books or some pdf/ebooks, I will be one of the team for another round....Business Class sounds great :D

message 245: by Elinaly (new)

Elinaly Way to go Martina!
I'm excited for you - I bet this will be experience of a lifetime!

It's so fantastic that we are all together going to a next trip!
Thanks team! :)

message 246: by Dima (new)

Dima | 129 comments So do we need to sign up for the next trip? or do we just stay here and wait for the next plan?

I'm all done with my books and waiting for my next assignment :))

Elinaly Dima wrote: "So do we need to sign up for the next trip? or do we just stay here and wait for the next plan?

I'm also done :)
I think I will ask for the next trip-plan (business class tickets) in the next message to the Travel Agent.
Until then.. I guess we just have to enjoy... and have time to fulfill our other challenges... hehehee
I confess that I'm a challenge addict, so I have many of them going at the same time. I especially love team-challenges.

Dima, I have noticed that we are both also doing the UNO challenge :)
