Happy belated birthday, Ang. My husband and I both celebrated birthdays recently and they are close enough that sometimes they fall in the same week, but not this year.

Kamas Kirian (kamas716) | 928 comments It might just be a time of funks. I've tried watching four different series on Netflix this weekend and couldn't get past the first episode (though I might go back and watch some more of Ripper Street if in the right mood).

I've had some pleasant reading surprises and some not so pleasant LOL that's what I get for letting my editor chose my reviews for me. But I also get to try new to me authors who I wouldn't ordinarily.

What are you reading this weekend?

I FINALLY finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman. It was very long and really not my cup of tea, but after I started it, I wanted to finish it. Parts of it I enjoyed, but then he would hit long stretches of rambling that made me long for something a little different.

Now I'm getting started on Go Set a Watchman. Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee

I read the sample of American Gods that came preloaded on my Nook. Most of my friends have gushed over it, but it didn't grab me enough to purchase the full novel. I haven't seen much about the show yet.

I am reading Addicted to Love (Flatiron Five Book 2) by Deborah Cooke
really enjoying it.

I haven't read Gaiman, I know he has many many fans but the excerpts I've read really don't tempt me.

Its hard to believe that July is almost behind us and I'm sure some of you are getting ready for the kids to head back to school and some are heading back themselves.
Anyone fitting in one more road trip/vacation before summer ends?

On another note JT Ellison has another stand alone coming out in August, it's on my reading list hopefully I can get to it before its released in paperback LOL
Lie to Me by J.T. Ellison Lie to Me

Right now I'm reading a historical novel set in late 6th Century Wales, very good. The author has another book coming out in October and this book has been on my pile for awhile. I want to interview him for the blog, Really good
Between Two Fires (Queen Branwen #1) by Mark Noce Between Two Fires

What are you reading?

If everyone is in favor of going ahead and pre-ordering it, we could do a mid-September bookclub read. My vote is to do it!

Kamas Kirian (kamas716) | 928 comments I started reading Yellow Eyes by John Ringo while waiting for Little Britches during her swimming lessons. At work and at home I've been finishing up Bison Football: Three Decades of Excellence. I'm into the glory years of the '80's and names I'm actually familiar with. I didn't realize just how many NFL players they played against.

13 National titles over 50 years, plus another 3 as runner up. We may not be 'Big Time' like Alabama or Notre Dame, but we have a similar amount of championships and winning percentage over that time frame (all well over 70%). Ed Kolpack's son, Jeff, put out a book on Bison Football last year that deals with the era after Ed's book. I've also got that one and plan on reading it soon.

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend. It won't be long before leaves start to turn and fall (except for Ang that is).

Tell me the last book you read or listened to that you couldn't put down

What kept your attention was it the characters the story or a combination?

How long do you give a book before you quit reading it?

The last book I didn't want to put down was "Wildfire" by Ilona Andrews. It was the 3rd book in the series. I was interested to see how the story panned out! Plus Ilona Andrews (Husband and Wife writing duo) are one of my favorite authors!

Wildfire (Hidden Legacy, #3) by Ilona Andrews

Also worth a mention is "Spectacle" by Rachel Vincent, (I know this is on your list to read, Deb) The characters had me hooked on this one!!
Spectacle (Menagerie, #2) by Rachel Vincent

Ilona Andrews is an author duo I really want to read too

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments YES, Deb, loved Spectacle just as much as Menagerie! Can't wait to see what you think when you read it! My Mum really enjoyed it also, so we've had good discussions about it. I have read Rachel Vincent for a long time now, her Werecat's Series remains one of my favourite Series.

Thanks. But I'm back to work now. I feel like a fish out of water. Not only am I on days (oh, the sun hurts my eyes!) but they switched out our main computer while I was gone, so I don't have anything saved where it was on my desktop now. It took all morning to go through two weeks of email. I'm setting up my browser favorites now. Next is shortcuts on the desktop for all the stuff I use on a regular basis.

Lately I've been finding it harder to find time to read. I downloaded Almost Missed You by Jessica Strawser from my library and it's really drawn me in. Hopefully I won't be disturbed at lunch and I can soon find out what happens next!

Ang from OZ | 1690 comments Hi Scott, I wondered if you have watched the movies that have been done of Stephen King's books?

I haven't ever read any of the books but have seen a few movies. Do you plan to see the new re-make of the movie IT. I've been terrified of clowns ever since I watched the old version!!!

message 1449: by Scott (new)

Scott | 17 comments Deb and Ang,
I started reading King when I was a young teenager in the 80's and I loved his stories back then. I had read quite a few of his books while I was younger. I started reading more again about 15 years ago and got back into reading his books so I decided I would read them all.

I read It when it came out and have read it 2 more times since. It is my favorite book of all. When the original TV movie came out I was so disappointed with it. It was terrible. I can't wait to see the new one.

A lot of his movies have not been done well. The best ones are The Green Mile, Stand by Me, and Shawshank Redemption, in no order.
