*I see you, Jonetta! lol

I'm doing the audio version of Outlander also! Love it. We have a thread for Outlander also! Some of us buddy read Outlander & then chatted endlessly about the TV series.

Great, I will check that out.

Joc (jocc) Normally I am not a re-reader but there are a few exceptions.

I have re-read the Harry Potter series a few times. Yes, I am an adult but I just love the characters and stories. Goblet of Fire is probably my favorite. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I had started to re-read the In Death series in date order because when I first found it, I was reading them as I could find them in the library.

There are a few series/books that I reread and the In Death series is one of them. Each time I start over, I find something new to love about it!

Joc (jocc) Kris - My Novelesque Life wrote: "Yep. Once I find a book I love I usually reread it at least once more. I have since I was a kid...it's like visiting an old friend"

I think Kris said it best... "it's like visiting an old friend"

message 57: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 1576 comments I have favorites that I re-read. For me it's like visiting old friends.

I do find myself rereading the end of books when a new one in a series is being released. Otherwise I can't remember. Ahh getting older is fun. :-)

Yes, it is! :) I try to at least skim previous books in a series prior to reading a new release if it's been some time since I read them.

Thanks, Joc! It's a nice feeling when others feel that too!

message 61: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) Sometimes. I have relistened to many a book. And the 2nd & 3rd time around I hear something new. Or I just listen over and over to favorite parts of the book.

message 62: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 11211 comments Mod
I do the same, Mara! At least with my very favorites.

message 63: by Dee (new)

Dee Sauter (indeathaddict) | 1070 comments Oh my yes! I love rereading certain books whether I get something out of a reread or not, however there are many books that although I liked them they were not worth reading them again

message 64: by Robin (new)

Robin (robinmy) | 1389 comments I'm not much of a re-reader. I guess I have too many books in my to-be-read pile that I don't have time to go back to the oldies but goodies. I have been listening to some of the books I read 10-15 years ago on audiobooks while making the commute to work. It sure makes the 65 mile round trip more interesting.

I have a tbr list that I could never finish in a million years...but there are still books/series that I will reread once in awhile. The best example: the In Death series! :)

message 66: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) I have relistened to the IN DEATH books I have on my phone many a time and picked up on something I didn't hear the first time.

message 67: by Kay (new)

Kay (kkfar) There are several authors I reread. The mood will just hit me and I will pick a 2 or 3 and read them. Ones that come to mind are any of Julie Garwoods, Maya Banks KGI series and Colters series and others, Lora Leigh's Breed series and others, Lauren Danes Chase Brothers series and Brown Family and de la Vega Cats. I know there are others but these are my favorites. I just have to have my fix at any given time.

message 68: by Namita (new)

Namita (-namita) | 209 comments I only re-read my favourite books and series. Depends on my mood. Sometimes you just need a fix of your fave book/series world.

message 69: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1131 comments I was an avid re-reader until I got my Kindle and joined Shelfari and then Goodreads.

Prior to my Kindle days, I would re-read my favorites (mainly Sandra Brown and Karen Robards) because I did not have access to the variety of books that I do now.

Now I don't re-read that often because there are so many new books on my TBR.

message 70: by Martha (new)

Martha DeSabia (marthamary) | 776 comments Yes! I generally reread books that a real classics to me. In between reading "new" material I am slowly rereading the Harry Potter series at the moment. I also reread The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings from time to time. I love it because these books feel like" old friends"!

Kay (kkfar) ♑Namita♑ wrote: "I only re-read my favourite books and series. Depends on my mood. Sometimes you just need a fix of your fave book/series world."

Yes Namita, you just have to have that fix of your favorite books from your favorite authors. Mine hits 2 or 3 times a year.

message 72: by Kristi (new)

Kristi | 230 comments I'm not normally a re-reader, but there are a few authors that I like to go back to every now and then. Those include J.D. Robb, Heather Graham, and Kay Hooper.

message 73: by Dalene (new)

Dalene | 66 comments Only certain authors like JD Robb (4th time now), Ava Miles, etc. I have also read the Harry Potter series twice.

message 74: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Absolutely, especially with Eve & Roarke! How could I not go back?

message 75: by Pam (new)

Pam Desjardine she-her (stonekeeper) | 1 comments Absolutely!

message 76: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) Sometimes.

message 77: by Jina (new)

Jina Gibbs Yes many times over and with many authors. For one reason which is the best books have the characters that feel like friends or remind a person of someone in their life, Plus I have found that when I reread a certain book or series it reminds me of the time and happenings that were going on at the time of my first reading. My favorite books get reread nearly yearly, to relive the journey the book takes me on.

Myst | 72 comments I've re-read a few series (Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters, Patricia Cornwell), but this year I've committed to no re-reads. I would like to finish my tbr this year without having any of it linger into the new year.

message 79: by Gary (new)

Gary Sundell | 89 comments I reread. I have been revisiting books I read back in high school, college, and law school. Nero Wolfe, Ellery Queen, Ed McBain,
Craig Shaw Gardner, Terry Pratchett, have all been on my list lately some are books I've read before some are books I missed back then.

message 80: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) I am a relistener of many of my favorite books. Especially IN DEATH series, and I relisten to Deborah Crombie books. I relisten to some other books.

SB*needs low angst books* You know the main time I find myself doing a reread is when I am in a book slump and nothing new is appealing to me. I also do them when I have finished a really good blow me away book and have book hangover. Then I need the comfort of a old favorite. I find myself doing it after a really good In Death book as an example.

message 82: by Mary Beth (new)

Mary Beth | 180 comments I usually am not a rereader because their are so many other books on my tbr but I am rereading the Nancy Drew series right now. Bringing back so many memories from my childhood. I wont be reading all of them though since there are 100 of them now.

message 83: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just finished Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult and let me tell you I can totally see myself re-reading this one. In fact, I feel like I could do it right now!

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 965 comments I normally am not a re-reader except for some of my favorite series that have a lot of books to the series. Then I like to start over again and then I space them out.

message 85: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) Since I am a audiobook listener, I usually listen to my favorite books a second or 3rd time.

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

I re-read ID constantly, not always in order. But I've read the books probably 10-15 times at least-all of them.I am obsessed.

I've reread several of NR's books over the years, and the same is true of the In Death series. I'm definitely a rereader (even with my limited reading time) of series/books I love.

I've done the same thing, Paula! Or I pick & choose certain books in a series to reread.

message 89: by Carly (new)

Carly | 2 comments Some books I have read only once and even though I enjoyed the book at the time, I would never bother to re-read it. Partly, I think because if you can remember a great deal of the story or dialogue, its just not worth it. If you spent most of the story, disappointed or only mildly interested, it is definitively not worth a re-read.

Others books like In Death or Wodehouse are different, because you can return to the pages and while the story is familiar, you can re-immerse yourself in the pages, as if it is the first time. Especially if there is a scene in the story that you just want to re-experience time and time again.

You make a really great point. Some books are good once only. I have ones like that. I enjoyed them but not enough to pull back out. I know I also have some where they were just decent and it isn't one that hooks me in where I can't put it down.

I love the word you used re-immerse. That is so true. The ones I love to re-read are ones where the world or characters make me want experience it all over again.

I have been in a huge book slump recently and it has been almost two months before I started getting back into reading. It was so bad that even my favorites weren't working. It especially happened to book I loved but had moments that I got annoyed with. It was like all the little things that annoyed me became magnified. It was really bad.

message 91: by Louise (new)

Louise | 8 comments I don't usually re-read books. Don't get me wrong, it's not that some of them are not worthy of a re-read, some I really loved. But I always feel that there is so many good books I have not read yet, and there is so little time to read them all.

I agree Sarah. Too many books, too little time.

SB*needs low angst books* You guys never had a book slump to want to go back until something new comes along?

message 94: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 965 comments I've never had a book slump. I've had times in my life where I had no time to read. Worked 12 hour days while raising my son and a alcoholic husband. I missed reading so much.

message 95: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I've never had a book slump, either. I always have more books than time. There used to be a website where you could put in how many books you have and what age you are and it'd tell you how old you'd be when you finish.

Paula - I'm sorry you had to deal with an alcoholic husband. It must be very stressful. I hope he wasn't too abusive to you.

You both are lucky about not dealing with one but mine may come from being picky.

Paula, I am sorry as well. I had a alcoholic father and it can be frustrating and aggravating to live with everyday.
