I finished Legend last week. But I also just finished Prodigy by Maria Lu which should also work for the M, I believe. Easy but good reads.

Redshirts -excellent book. Jo-Jo I'm reading Ink & Bone right now which would work for I. I still plan on reading On Fires Wings for that O in the challenge. If you want to read Odd Thomas for the other O, we can use Ink & Bone for the other I and you can take the other O unless someone else finishes up and wants to start another book. We can also totally disregard what I'm reading now. It just happens to map to the challenge. Regardless, I'm in for my original 2.

message 213: by 0possum (new)

0possum I finished Ink & Bone so we can use it if we need to. It was better than I expected and a quick read. So I'll start On Fires Wings. This is really helping me with my TBR pile!

I just saw this as well. You are welcome to try to find an N book if you'd like. I've started on one, but I have to finish Immortal Circus for another challenge before I can get back to it. You may finish the N book before me. Either way is okay, though, if you'd rather read something else...I will definitely be done before the 2 weeks is up.

It seems like doing the 9 letters isn't turning out to be a huge challenge for us...we're doing great as a team!

Glad to hear you enjoyed Ink & Bone. It's a book I've had my eye on. This will probably push me to read it sooner. =)

I took a couple days away from Goodreads because my kids are off on Spring Break this week and we spent some long overdue mom/daughters time together. I finished Atonement by Ian McEwan today and am going to use that for the I, just so I can say I actually read for this challenge, lol, but if I hadn't we would have used your Ink & Bone. You guys are getting tons of reading done!

Erika I'm about halfway through Mary Poppins which I'm hoping to get through this week since I have a different book to start for a readalong on Monday.

Good job, Erika...do the best you can do, there's still a bit of time left before the 2 weeks are up (I think it's on the 5th of April), so you have time. Sorry to hear it's been such a long week for you, that's never fun. =( Hope things get better the next couple of days.

*edit* I was completely wrong about the date, it's the 14th of April. Possum, thanks so much for that- I was obviously mixed up.

I can definitely take N! Just need to decide which one lol Should be able to complete it by next week. When was the end date for this spell it out again?

message 225: by 0possum (new)

0possum According to msg 161 we decided that we have until April 14. that's good because the book I'm reading for O is slow going. It should be an easy read but I keep getting sidetracked by the authors sentence structure and choice of words. It doesn't flow well.

Well, I consider that read as taking one for the team. I'm not sure I would have finished it if not for the challenge. Luckily Redshirts and Ink & Bone were good. Now at least it's off my to-read pile.

See? I had my weeks messed up. For some reason I was mixed up on that...glad you knew what it was, or I wouldn't have had any idea...not sure why I thought it was this week?!

Sorry, I just didn't know if Tally had already started an N book at that point, so wasn't sure how we should handle that. I feel bad that you read a book and it didn't get used...since I had an "I" book finished, I figured we should use it, because all of us have to read at least one book to get max points. If I finished the "N" book first it wouldn't have even came up. I'm so glad you liked the book, because I'd feel extra awful if you read a terrible book for it.

What do you all think the best way to handle this in the future would be? Should we each just call one letter, then finish that letter and then as we finish the letter we have, take one letter that is still left, and post that "Hey I finished my first letter, so I'm going to read for letter "H" now." so that everyone will know that letter is now taken, and then we'd know not to read for it? Do you think doing it that way might help keep that from happening on future spell-it-outs that are longer than 8 letters?

This is the first type of challenge like this, so we are all trying to figure out the rules and how to do everything as a team. If anyone has any ideas of how to make things easier or better, please share.

message 230: by 0possum (new)

0possum Oh, I was reading that book anyway. It was a library book I had reserved. I didn't mind at all. I wouldn't have thrown it in the mix except we were (maybe) short and it was a letter we could use. I like your method if we want to implement one:

"Hey I finished my first letter, so I'm going to read for letter "H" now." so that everyone will know that letter is now taken, and then we'd know not to read for it?

I had plenty of time to read last week so I just cranked them out. I just hope I don't have too many more duds on my TBR pile. I'm afraid I do...but at least this reading challenge is removing them from my list!

I agree I think thats a good way to let us all know who is taking what. I apologise if I messed things up as well! I finally started a book for N - Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid

Since I finished my book so quickly and JoJo you had 3 I figured I could help out if needed. Plus it was an excuse to keep fleshing out all the YA novels on my TBR list lol

Lory | 629 comments Hi All,

Not to start before we have finished our 3rd stop, but what is the plan for stop 4? Are we doing the scarlet and gold cover? I didn't think we were going to do the detour for this stop, but it is difficult to remember.

I am going to Europe soon and I want to make sure I have the right book for this challenge with me so I can read during all the lovely train/plane rides!

Yes it is Scarlet and gold cover - here is a link to books with red covers https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

I am guessing red and yellow will count for Scarlett and gold?

Erika Are we not doing the spell it out for stop 4?

message 241: by Jo-Jo (last edited Apr 09, 2016 10:10PM) (new)

Jo-Jo | 686 comments If I remember correctly we had said we wanted to not to the detour for #5 and replace it with either the detour for #4 or the detour for #7. In my opinion, the detour for #4 would probably be easier. The other 2 detours we had discussed doing were the ones for #6 and #8.

So, if we all agree, we will do the Detour for #4, #6, and #8...which will be all 5 of the detours we're allowed to do, giving us the maximum amount of points we can get for the entire challenge as long as we all read for each stop.

Thanks for that. I hope it's okay that I already finished the one I was reading for N. Hopefully you are enjoying that one that you were reading to help with it. If you aren't, and you want to quit reading it, that's okay too. =)
I hear ya, about the TBR...I have thousands of books on mine, and keep adding to it...I'll never get to all the books I'd like to read in my lifetime...but it's fun to try!

The scarlet is minimal but the gold is obvious. I'd say if we accepted The Rosie Project (Don Tillman, #1) by Graeme Simsion we could probably accept Uprooted by Naomi Novik .

Anyone else have thoughts on that?
