Done!

So next up is:

6. Wenzhou (CN) - Obihiro (JP)
detour: Read a book with the word Ms, Mr, Mrs or Miss (plurals are acceptable) in the title

We going to do the detour for this one?

message 602: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments I would vote for the detour. I can't imagine it is too difficult to find a book with Miss, etc in the title.

message 603: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments I finished "the alchemyst" recently which has a character called "the witch of Endor". Not sure if that would work, but just throwing it out there :-)

message 604: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 1765 comments I am going to read Miss Frost Saves The Sandman: A Nocturne Falls Mystery by Kristen Painter - is the 3rd in a series I follow and I love it!

message 605: by Jodie (new)

Jodie (anntsy) | 223 comments I have no books on my shelf currently with Miss, Mrs. etc. If we're going to do the detour i'm going to need some recs.

message 606: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 1765 comments What sort of books do you like?

message 607: by 0possum (new)

0possum Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore

Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

and I am pages away from finishing The End of Mr. Y

and it's not bad. I've probably read others that are ok but I can't remember any more names at the moment.

Completed: The End of Mr. Y I haven't quite completed it yet but I wont be on computer today and I am so close.

message 608: by Tally (new)

Tally (tallyrrn) I'm probably going to read Mrs. Dalloway because I've been meaning to get more classic lit in this year~

Jodie I might have some recs as well! Need to check my TBR

Lory | 629 comments I think I am going to Read Mr. Darcy's Diary Mr. Darcy's Diary (Jane Austen Heroes, #1) by Amanda Grange

Not sure if I read it before, but if I did I remember I liked it! LOL, weird statement. I remember reading about from his POV instead of the regular and that's what initially got me into Austen. I would be thrilled if it turned out to be this book.

message 622: by 0possum (new)

0possum I was not thrilled with Mrs. Dalloway I am glad it was short. I hadn't read any Virginia Woolf though so now I have -on to something else

message 623: by 0possum (new)

0possum as far as:

7. Obihiro (JP) - Watertown (US)

I vote for spelling Obihiro out.

Lory | 629 comments Is another option reading a book that takes place in Japan? Would that be interesting?

message 625: by 0possum (new)

0possum That would be fine with me too. I guess I'm simply anti topez

message 626: by Tally (new)

Tally (tallyrrn) I'm good with reading a book related to Japan.

Hate reading slumps - haven't had one for ages - but last time reading my old childhood favourites rekindled the spark!

Jodie (anntsy) | 223 comments i read two books set in Japan recently Out by Natsuo Kirino and A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki . Both I would recommend. I think I have a copy of Rising Sun lying around somewhere that i can complete for this challenge.

I haven't read a book for the previous stop yet though....
Can we move on if it's incomplete?

We can - we just don't get the full points - but we won't anyway because of Erika being missing in action at the moment.

message 632: by 0possum (new)

0possum Thanks for the links. I still want to read Colorless Tsukuru. I actually bought and had the book in my hands and my son took off with it. I am going to his apt Monday to steal it back (and take him to lunch) If he's finished it -that'll be my book. Otherwise it's unknown but I've been checking out the lists.

Colourless Tsukuru is really good! I basically inhaled that book and loved the mystery of it. Hope you enjoy!

I looked up Colorless Tsukuru but there are a few books with that title - who is the author of your book?

message 636: by 0possum (new)

0possum Sorry I was being lazy- it's Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage

but I also have The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle as a backup.

Tally (tallyrrn) I actually need to change mine because I can't see to get a hold of the other one atm. Am going to read
Kazunomiya Prisoner of Heaven, Japan, 1858 by Kathryn Lasky
Kazunomiya: Prisoner of Heaven, Japan, 1858

message 639: by 0possum (new)

0possum I too am not reading my first choice. I've started The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle My son said Colorless Tsukuru was just ok and I ought to read something else right now. I suspect he said that because he let his girlfriend borrow it. It's always just beyond my grasp.

message 640: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments I think I am going to go with The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle as well. I can get that from my library as an e-book!

Convenience sometimes does the choosing for me :)

Lory | 629 comments Hey! Did people see the new thing when filling out a review (not sure how new)? It seems now you can add multiple dates the book was read! That's awesome!

Sally906 | 1765 comments Lory wrote: "Hey! Did people see the new thing when filling out a review (not sure how new)? It seems now you can add multiple dates the book was read! That's awesome!"

I think its been happening for a few weeks - they're rolling it out bit by bit. There are a few glitches though - a couple of my books suddenly announced themselves read as 3 or 4 times - when I had only read it once - and some duplicates popped up - I deleted all offending items and it's all fine now - but they are aware of bug

message 645: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments I'm going to have to switch up my book. I just can't seem to get into the Wind-up Bird and it is very long and I probably won't finish in time.

As for a quicker read, I think this will work Tokyo Heist which starts in Seattle, but then she travels to Tokyo and Kyoto.

Enjoyed it, very easy read. I love listening to people describe art in books.

Tally (tallyrrn) Sally906 wrote: "That just leaves Jodie and we're all done :)"

What are we thinking for the last stop?

Spell-it-out could be 8 letters and one of us can for 2. Or we can select an American author (this one might be the easiest)

message 649: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments Yeah, an american author would certainly be the easiest, I would think. The detour seems pretty limiting 61 - 70 chapters.

Its too bad the detours were so tricky, I like having some restrictions (makes it easier to decide).

I like the idea of an American author too
